《Dusk & Dawn》Chapter 27

"Are you sure you have everything?" I asked Lexi waiting by the front door with my single suitcase. She already had 3 piled up inside the doorway.

"Uh, yup! Just zipping up the last one now."

A black range rover rolled up outside the dorms and I watched Mason and Zach get out of the car.

"The boys are here." I called.

"Oh, shit! I just need to put some mascara on and I'll be out. Promise!" She closed the bathroom door hurriedly.

"Sup Quinnster? She ready yet?" Zach's voice filled the hallway.

"She's just making a few last adjustments and she'll be out." I smiled.

"Here, let me take that." Mason put his hand on my suitcase handle. I didn't want to seem soft or like I was a damsel in distress. I was perfectly capable of pulling my own bag.

"It's okay, I got it. Lexi on the other hand might need some help." I laughed and pointed inside the door. Their eyes widened and after a moment they each chose a bag and began carrying it downstairs. Lexi wasn't kidding when she said it would take her a while to pack. She had an outfit for every occasion, plus the 'just in case' ones.

Lexi emerged from the bathroom and lugged a big pink suitcase behind her. She had a bounce in her step all the way down to the car. Once everything was jammed inside the car Mason drove to our new place.

"This is the pool house where you girls will be staying... although I don't think Lex will be sleeping here much, she'll probably be in my bed." Zach said quietly smacking her butt on the way through to keep showing us around. It was magnificent. It was like a little cottage with its own shutters and chimney but had been renovated into a more modern looking structure. It was a pristine, clean white on the outside surrounded by trees and gorgeous flowers with the pool directly out front.

I gasped when we walked inside to take my suitcase to my room. There were exposed wooden beams and down lights creating a very romantic atmosphere. The floor looked like white marble and a few steps brought you up to the bedrooms which were adorned with led lights, white linen sheets and wooden furniture. I couldn't hide my surprise at it's beauty.

"Here Quinn, this can be your room since Lex will probably be shacking up with lover boy." Mason smirked at Zach who was pressed against Lexi's backside, following her through the house. I set my things down and sat on the bed unable to speak. My house at home was dilapidated. I never could have imagined that houses, pool houses, like this could have existed.

"You've never been in a place like this?" Mason watched me as I struggled to take everything in, darting my eyes from the lights, to the water feature, to the mirror. I shook my head. I didn't want him to feel sorry for me. I just wanted to live in the now and soak it all in.

"You guys coming inside for lunch? I make a mean grilled sandwich." Zach called from the other room and Lexi giggled. I was pretty hungry staying up most of the night helping Lex pack. We all filed out the pool house and across the yard to the main house.

Lexi and I sat on the couch as the boys stood in the kitchen in front of us. Lex was twirling her hair around her index finger staring at Zach's ass while he chopped up the ingredients to make the grilled sandwiches. I suddenly felt Lexi pull me closer in her direction.

"Hey girl, can I ask you a massive favour?" she asked quietly. I nodded, knowing she was trying to keep out of earshot of the guys.

"When we go to the Family Fun Fair can you and Mason come with us? I want to introduce Zach to my parents but I don't want to freak him out with just us two there. If he suspects he's meeting my parents I might scare him off, but if you and Mason come with us he'll be more likely to come."

"What are you two whispering about?" Zach looked over his shoulder while he flicked the switch to the sandwich press.

"The family fun fair. You're all coming right?" Lexi asked and kept her eyes on me.

"Ch'yeah, it's heaps of fun. Even though my family will be working that weekend, I'm still going. What about you Mase?" Zach asked biting into a piece of salami. Mason looked to Zach and then to me.

"I dunno. Are you going Quinn?" His blue eyes felt like they were on me for an eternity. All I could do was nod.

"Cool, I'll drive." Mason said through munches. The boys busied themselves again in the kitchen while Lexi continued speaking in a lowered voice.

"Um... and another thing... Could you and Mase sort of 'disappear' when my parents arrive so I can get him alone with them? I really want to know what they think" She asked, her eyes pleading. I sighed and gave her a stern look.

"Lex, that's a dangerous path you're treading on. What does it matter if your parents like him or not? If you like him, that's all that matters, right?" She smirked and raised her eyebrows.

"Excuse me missy but aren't you the one with a huge crush on Mason but wont do anything about it for fear of what certain people might think?" She poked my underarms which was more of a tickle. I squirmed about and tried to stifle my laugh. I put my hands up to surrender. I absolutely hated being tickled.

"It's not that I care what my parents think of him... I'm just scared Lex." I look over to make sure he can't hear and I lean in closer to her.

"He could chew me up, spit me out and be onto the next one before I have time to blink. I know I have trust issues but I'm not ready to bare all to him and then have him leave me like everyone else has. I don't think I..." I couldn't finish my sentence. Lexi wrapped her arm around my waist and laid her head on my shoulder.

"Hey, I stayed. I wont leave, I promise. But you gotta get that sorted out girl. There's so much sexual tension between you two I sometimes think you're gonna start making out in the middle of the floor" She shook her head and covered her mouth trying not to draw attention to us.

"So, can you? Pleeeeease?" Lexi asked, sticking her lower lip out pouting.

"Okay, ill 'disappear'... but only if you take me to my doctors appointment next week. I need someone to drive me."

"Lunch is served m'ladies." Zach carefully placed the plates on the counter and we all took our seats. I looked at Lexi waiting for an answer.

"What's it for?" She whispered while the boys searched the cupboards for cups.

"Oh it's nothing, just a check up after that inceident with Chris." I tried to keep my voice low. She nodded and gave me a thumbs up. Thank God!

It was nice to have moral support. My parents didn't believe in doctors, only in prayer and good faith that you would get better. Even though my parents had very strong beliefs and views on many things which other people didn't think twice about, I was grateful that selflessness was one of the things that was ingrained into me.
