"I still can't believe you got vanilla."
"Hey, it's vanilla bean, it's better than just vanilla..."
"Whatever, same thing."
I sat in the passenger's side of the car, Laurence at the wheel. We drove down the winding roads, and I gazed outside and took in the rolling green hills outside. I sighed, fogging up the glass window I was leaning against.
"Where are we going?" I finally asked. Laurence only smiled, dropping his now empty ice cream cup in the cup-holder in the center console.
"I told you, it's a surprise," he said. I groaned and slouched slightly in my seat.
"Why can't you tell me?" I asked before shoving a spoonful of ice cream into my mouth.
"Because it's a surprise," he said with a light chuckle. I only huffed and stared outside. "Is that vanilla bean good?" he asked. I smirked.
"I thought you thought my ice cream choice was basic," I said smugly, my eyes trailing to his face which was now pink. He bit his lower lip, leaning forward in his seat.
"Well, maybe I'm curious to know what it tastes like," he muttered. I giggled and scooped up a spoonful of the cold substance that was in my nearly empty bowl. I lifted the spoon to his mouth.
"Open," I demanded. He did as asked and I shoved the spoon into his mouth before pulling it out slowly. He swallowed, and furrowed his eyebrows as if in thought.
"Well?" I asked. He hummed in thought, and then smiled.
"I suppose I've misjudged your ice cream choice," he said. I chuckled and ate the final bite of my ice cream and then placed it in his empty bowl. I returned my gaze to the window for a few more seconds. All I saw was greenery for miles, trees and grass and nothing else. Blue sky stood out against the different shades of green, not a single cloud in the sky. It was a perfect day... The blue of the sky reminded me of something that seemed to haunt me everywhere I went. I could never shove the gorgeous color out of my mind no matter how hard I tried. I looked back to Laurence beside me. His eyes remained on the road ahead. His gorgeous, sky blue eyes that followed me everywhere... I examined every small detail about him. The few freckles he had, the way each strand of brown hair fell flawlessly onto his face, the way his nose seemed to curve perfectly... Everything about him just seemed so wonderful. My cheeks flushed a light shade of pink and a soft smile took over my lips. I glanced down at his hand that rested on the storage container in the center console. Hesitantly, I slid my fingers to lock into place with his and I quickly looked back outside. I felt him clench his fingers around my hand, giving it a light squeeze. I sighed in content and shut my eyes. It wasn't much long later that the car jolted to a stop.

"We're here," Laurence said. I opened my eyes and sat up to look outside. I let go of his hand to unbuckle, my excitement growing when I saw where we were.
A large open field that was framed by tall trees took up the space to the right of where we had parked. I opened the door and jumped outside, Laurence following me. I walked to the edge of the road, the hill dropping steep in front of me. I gazed out onto the field, a light breeze rushing through my hair.
"Its beautiful," I muttered.
"I'm glad you think so," Laurence said from beside me. I felt him grab my arm. "Come on, let's go find a spot to play down."
Carefully, we walked down the steep hill and entered the field. Laurence let go of my arm and took off sprinting towards the center of it. I chuckled and chased after him. The wind hit my face as I ran, and I felt... free. I felt like there were no cares in the world, and that only Laurence and I existed on Earth.
Laurence slowed down and eventually stopped. I stood beside him once I had caught up and looked around us. The sun hit the trees perfectly, making the leaves seem to glow as if by magic.
An arm wrapped around my shoulders and the next thing I knew, I was falling, falling, falling... I grunted as I hit the ground, Laurence giggling beside me. I nudged him lightly with my elbow and looked up at the sky.
It was quiet for a few minutes, nothing but our breaths and the soft breeze could be heard. That was until...
"Do I look lonely?"
I smirked, opening my mouth to reply.
"I see the shadows on my face..."
"People have told me, I dont look the same..."
We continued to sing, purposely sounding awful. We mixed in the occasional voice crack for extra awful factor. By the time the chorus came, we were both practically shrieking the lyrics as loud as possible. Thank Irene we were in the middle of nowhere... Although I wouldn't be surprised if someone all the way in town had heard us. Eventually, the song ended.
It was quiet again for a few moments... Just the breeze and our breaths.
"Why do we tell actors to "break a leg?"
I smiled.
"Why?" I asked. He chuckled.
"Because every play has a cast."
I laughed, punching Laurence's side lightly. He chuckled and shoved me so I rolled over. I quickly rolled back into place, this time laying closer to him. Laurence slid his arm around my waist and pulled me closer, if it was possible to do so. He sighed and looked up at the sky. I turned my head to face him, gazing at his eyes as they sparkled in wonder.
"Ah, such pretty blue, don't you think?" he asked. I smiled.
"The prettiest..." I muttered. He glanced over at me, realizing that I was looking at him. His face flushed and he looked away. I fixed my gaze on the sky, enjoying the warmth of Laurence's body pressed against mine. I just felt so comfortable. It was just us.

Only us.
"What do you want to do when school is over?" I asked him. He hummed in thought for a moment.
"What if we biked the Appalachian trail?" he suggested.
"No, that involves too much exercise... We could write a book," I replied.
"Psh, that's boring!" he exclaimed. "Who writes books these days?"
"Alright, fine then..." I muttered. "We could learn to sail."
Laurence grinned at this.
"Wouldn't that be cool," he sighed.
"I've always wanted to try it..." I said.
We continued to venture into conversation. One second we were discussing out favorite TV shows and the next we were talking about celebrity crushes.
"I'm just saying, Harry Styles is an attractive guy," I said with a shrug.
"Eh, he's nice, but have you seen Tyler Joseph?" Laurence said. "He's just... wow."
I giggled.
"Does he look better than me?" I asked, turning my head to look at him. He did the same but to look at me, and our eyes met. He gave me a soft smile.
"No," he said. "I don't think anyone can look better than you."
My cheeks flushed at the comment and I immediately became a flustered mess, but I gave him a gentle smile. I didn't say anything, but rather soaked in the view of the boy in front of me. We're quiet, and no words are spoken. We only enjoyed one another's company in silence. My heart was pounding in my ears, but I still felt at ease and content. His eyes really were beautiful... You have no idea... I felt him take my hand in his, carefully intertwining our fingers. He flashed me his signature grin which I returned.
"There's nowhere else I'd rather be," he whispered just loud enough for me to hear.
"Me too," I muttered at around the same voice level.
After another minute or so, Laurence stands up, pulling me with him. He let go of my hand and began to run towards the direction of the nearest tree.
"Follow me!" he yelled behind him. I grinned and ran after him, the feeling of the wind blowing through my hair returning. When I reached the tree, he was already perched comfortably on a branch. I carefully began to climb up after him, aiming to sit on a different branch. Once I reached it, I carefully stood on top of it while holding on tight to another branch. Sunshine shone in my face, and I squinted for awhile until my eyes adjusted to the light. I looked out onto the field, enjoying the wonderful greenery that surrounded us.
"Wow..." I gasped. Laurence hummed in agreement.
"It truly is beautiful," he said and I nodded.
We gazed out onto the field, enjoying the peaceful surroundings. That is until I feel something snap from beneath me.
The branch I was standing on had broken...
And I was falling...
And I was screaming...
And Laurence was yelling my name...
And everything was blurry.
I was on the ground. I had landed hard on my arm. It felt... numb.
As my vision cleared, I saw Laurence jump down from a spot in the tree that was lower to the ground. He ran towards me, crouching at my side.
"Garroth, are you okay?!" he asked, sounding panicked.
I grunted and rolled onto my back. His worried eyes meet mine...
And I'm alright.
And I smile, and so does he.
And everything's okay...
Mister and Misses Zvhal have tears falling down their faces, Cadenza's expression unreadable. I, too, was crying. But... I was smiling at the fond memory.
"I'm so happy to hear that our Laurence had a friend like you," Misses Zvhal said. I gave her a small nod. Mister Zvhal stood from the couch and carefully escorted his wife up the stairs. I turned to Cadenza, who was no longer there. I sighed and stood from the couch. I didn't wipe my tears, but simply allowed them to fall.
I walked towards the mantle where several pictures were aligned in a neat order. My eyes landed on one of a boy with milk chocolate brown hair, skin that was only a few shades lighter, and these gorgeous sky blue eyes that still followed me everywhere. I grabbed the photo, more tears falling as I smiled at it.
"All we see is sky, for forever, we let the world pass by, for forever, buddy, you and I for forever this way... this way..."
I sniffed, wiping my tears from my cheeks and carefully placing the photo back on the mantle. His bright smile made me smile, and I walked to the back door. I opened it and stepped outside onto the deck, shutting the door behind me. I walked to the railing where I leaned against it and looked to the bright blue sky.
The blue I was so familiar with...
Not the sky, but his eyes.
I looked up at his eyes and with a sad smile said...
"I love you..."
And I swear I hear his voice say these words back...
And everything's okay...
I know I promised to write a requested one shot but I had this idea and I wanted to write it while still inspired. I'm probably going to stay up pretty late tonight anyways so I might get the chance to write the requested one shot.
Hope you enjoyed!~

Legends of Balarel - A Leisurely LitRPG
Glenn Redwood has longed to become an Adventurer since he was a young boy, and has focused every waking moment on that goal since turning 14. Answering the challenge of the Gods of Balarel, he has fought Monsters, Leveled, and grown stronger. Yet the day before his 16th birthday, the day he will earn his dream or lose it forever ... the Gods have made a wager. And no mere mortal wishes to draw the attention of the Gods. ***** This is my crack at writing a leisurely LitRPG. My focus is more on telling interesting stories set in a world where people live under a MMORPG-like ruleset enforced by the Gods, and less on writing another story where the MC gets massive stat boosts every chapter before heading off to wreck the world. There will be plenty of blue tables (it’s LitRPG!) but my Adventurers are just starting out. This fic is about the journey, not the destination, so expect everyone to Level ... leisurely. Updates: M-T-W-Th. I’ll post 3000-4000 words a day, or 12000-15000 words a week. If this posting pace ends up being too much for me, I reserve the right to slow posts down a bit. Inspirations: Blessed Time (Royal Road) Is It Wrong To Try To Pick Up Girls In a Dungeon? (Anime) Trails in the Sky (JRPG Series) MC: My MC is a genuinely good person who’s both a talented warrior and tactically savvy. He prefers to solve problems without violence but will resort to force if necessary to protect his friends or innocent people. I’m tired of stories starring anti-hero MCs facing endless doom and gloom, so I wanted to write a nice guy with an adventurous spirit who helps people in a thriving fantasy world. That’s all.
