《second best // dnf》15. Visiting Him

Both at the exact same time, mine and Dream's phones started ringing; I could hear Dream's ringtone from upstairs. The caller ID read: Unknown Number.
I accepted and a lively yet serious voice said, "Hello again Sapnap, I am pleased to tell you that George is still unconscious but is now in a stable condition and we are allowing visitors as of now."
George was alive.

He survived. He did it. He actually survived. I was in the shower when the hospital phoned me. I hurried out of the shower and I seized my phone and my heart jumped as I read the caller ID: Unknown Caller.
They told me he was alive; unconscious still; but alive. And of course, that was better than nothing.
As quickly as I could, I towelled myself dry, threw on some smart-ish clothes and sprinted down the stairs. Sapnap was already putting on his shoes and pulling on his coat. Hurrying into the car, I accelerated and sped off down the road. The hospital was no longer than ten minutes away and as soon as we arrived, the two of us burst from the car and raced into the building.
My damp hair was blowing wildly in the wind, dripping onto my black shirt. Inside the hospital, Sapnap spoke to the receptionist to found out where George was, I was shaking so much that I stop myself. Bolting down the hallways, we finally arrived at his room.
Taking a deep breath, I was about the push open the door when Sapnap stopped me.
"You sure you're ready?" he whispered.
With a mistrustful nod, Sapnap opened the door.
A bed was sat in the middle of the rather compact room, a small window showed the view of a bleak parking lot and a few chairs were littered around. George lay in the bed, hooked up to so many machines and tubes and wires that he looked like a science experiment.

A black eye had blossomed on his right eye. Small cuts and scars had been etched into his porcelain skin and his skin had been drained of colour. A clear tube had been inserted into his wrist which was connected to a large machine, stood at the side of the bed. The machine showed his heart rate, zigzagging lines climbed up and down the monitor and a constant beeping noise was a regular reminder that George was alive.
A regular reminder that his heart was still beating.
Tears burned in my eyes. Sapnap, who was stood at my side, gasped and clamped his hand over his mouth. I strangled sob escaped from my lips and my legs felt wobbly and weak.
"George..." Sapnap whispered. We approached him at the bed and I grabbed and dragged a chair over the the side of the bed. Gently, I picked up his hand as it draped loosely off the side of the bed and clasped it between my own. His hand was cold, like ice so I brought it to my face and softly kissed it.
Hot streaks slowly slid down my cheeks. I turned around to find Sapnap stood in the corner of the bleak hospital room and he was sobbing into his sleeves. I bit my bottom lip and squeezed him tight against my chest, it hurt to see him like this.
All of a sudden, I felt overwhelmed with guilt. I was a selfish idiot. While I was moping in my room for days upon end, SapNap was keeping everything in order: tidying up the house, cooking me meals (that I refused to eat) and even washed his and my own clothes. Not once did I ask him how he was doing.
He sniffed, "Um Dream?" I nodded. "Are you doing okay?"

I hesitated then cried, "It's all my fault!"
"What! No! How is it-"
I cut him off, "If I didn't upset him then h-he wouldn't of left the house and t-then the accident- oh my God..."
His phone buzzed in his jean's pocket. Pulling it out, he left the room because Karl was calling. Sitting down at George's side, I smeared away my tears and I murmured ever so quietly to him,
"George I don't know if you can hear me but, here you go. I miss you. So much. I miss you more than anything right now. I need you to wake up. You have to know i'm sorry for what I said, I didn't mean a single word of it and I only said it because I was angry- not that that is an excuse. I'm willing to wait for all of eternity for you, you know. Sapnap will be here soon, so will Karl and Quackity and Badboyhalo! I really hope you'll wake up to see them. Also I think Ezra is coming too so-"
I stopped talking when I heard Sapnap enter the room. I didn't have a chance to say anything to him when he said sternly,
"Dream please please know that this is not in the slightest way your fault okay? It was just an accident and it had nothing to do with you. You hear me?"
And he hugged me. We just sat there for a while. Talking about things, catching up on family life and stuff like that. I was starting to feel okay again. A nurse came in once in a while to do tests on George like checking his bloods and his vitals.
After lots of bribing, Sapnap finally convinced me to eat, despite the fact I wasn't the slightest but hungry. However, in his defence, I did look horrendous. I lost a lot of weight and I just look an overall mess.
Even though he was led by me side, I still felt empty. It was like I was a jigsaw puzzle, and he was my final piece. Without him I wasn't complete.
