《Freaks & Geek》Chapter 6: Tolerate It

The walk up to the restaurant, Calypso and Harlow had somewhat listened in to the conversations behind them and quickly realized that Aiden and Luke were very much focused on climbing the corporate ladder. They weren't kiss asses per say, but they were definitely saying the things they felt would get them in the good graces of the biggest names in the business world. Harlow could tell Damien was both annoyed and bored, but she watched as he answered their questions in the most politically correct manner.

Damien sat at the head of the table, while Wes sat to his left with Aiden and Luke. Val sat to his right next to Harlow, Declan and Calypso. The men couldn't take their attention off of Harlow too long. There was something going on with her and Declan and they didn't know, but knew they didn't like it one bit. 'I'm going to kill him,' Wes said angrily through their mind link.

'You're not, because I'm pretty sure that will make our mate angry. They're just friends I'm sure,' Damien responded while replying to yet another question from Aiden. 'I think Damien is right. Besides, Declan can't seem to get his attention off of Calypso.' Val informed taking a look at the mortal man engrossed by the succubus. 'She needs to be careful. Her bloodline is so pure and her powers so strong that she could wreck his poor little mortal life if she wanted.' Damien locked eyes with Calypso who simply offered up a small smile and continued her conversation with Harlow.

Their food arrived shortly after and Harlow did a quick dance in her seat. They were so glad they were right about their assumption. She so clearly loved Italian food as she took a bite of her lasagna. The moan she let out was quiet, but due to their super hearing they heard it clear as day. 'She's killing me,' Val said as he sat beside her. He wanted to touch her. He wanted to kiss her. He wanted to fuck her and brand her as his own. "How's the food?" The waiter asked with a smile.

They all gave their praises. "I'm glad you like it." The men watched as the waiter simply addressed Harlow with a wanting smile. They could tell Harlow was oblivious and focused on her food, but his gaze angered them. "That will be all," Damien said curtly causing the waiter to snap out of it and head back to his station. Calypso gave a slight chuckle and shook her head at them causing them to each roll their eyes. They watched as Harlow tried and failed to engage Aiden and Luke into her conversation with Calypso and Declan and further confirmed the dislike of the demon and werewolf.

It amazed them that Harlow and Declan had gotten the job. There were a handful of mortals that worked at Draven, Inc. 98% of the staff were supernatural. The very name Draven meant children of the darkness. Declan was a referral by a werewolf in Operations that went to the same gym as him and sparked a friendship. They weren't sure how Harlow heard about it, but they were grateful she had. They got an opportunity to see their mate on a daily basis and get closer to her.

They were finishing up their meals when Declan and Calypso both reached for the last piece of bread. Her hand barely touched his and she quickly pulled back, but the damage was done. Declan let out the most sensual moan before coming in his pants. Calypso looked up at three angry faces and sighed. "Dec, are you okay?" He visibly shook from the might of his orgasm. He was still riding the high and couldn't hear past the blood rushing in his ears. Aiden and Luke seemed to chuckle at the situation causing Calypso to glare at them.

She knew she could hypnotize them if she wanted and have them eating out of the palm of her hands and wiping the stupid grins off their face, but she didn't want to turn up her power and hurt nearby mortals. It was at its lowest, but that was more than enough to enamor them. "Declan," Harlow said touching his shoulder and he shook a bit before looking at her with wide eyes. "I'm going to pay for lunch," Damien called out. "You all head back to the office."

Aiden and Luke stood up with a worried Calypso. "Are you okay?" Harlow whispered to Declan who shook his head no. "Harlow you head back with the others we can handle Mr. McKay." Wes said, but she wasn't moving. Declan was her friend and she wanted to make sure he was okay. "We're fine." Harlow simply said before turning her attention back to Declan. The three shared a look before turning their attention back to the male mortal who was the victim of a succubus' touch.

"I'm suddenly not feeling well," Declan said to them as his cheeks turned pink. "That's alright, Declan. You can head home for the rest of the day. We won't dock your pay or require you use PTO." Val said with a small smile. Harlow frowned at all of them. Something wasn't right and they were just sweeping it under the rug. "It's fine, Lo. Go back to the office. I'll see you tomorrow." She knew something was wrong and maybe he was feeling under the weather, but something told her there was more.

"Text me when you get home, okay?" He nodded his head as she squeezed his shoulder and stood up. Harlow gave the guys a curious glance before leaving. They waited for her to leave the restaurant before they turned their attention back to Declan. Val moved over to the seat Harlow once occupied and placed his hand on Declan's shoulder before looking into his eyes. "You are going to forget what happened here. You're going to go home with a headache and take the rest of the day to relax." Val watched as Declan's eyes dilated as the compulsion worked its magic.

Damien waved his hand and Declan was immediately cleaned. "I really have a bad headache, sir, so I appreciate you letting me rest." They all nodded before getting up with him. "See you tomorrow," Declan said rubbing his temple before leaving. They watched him leave before sighing. "This is why I don't like hiring succubi. They're more trouble than their worth." Wes groaned at the situation. "She didn't mean it, plus she's young. I guarantee she'll do a better job of keeping her distance moving forward." Val said as Damien dropped $500 on the table.

They walked out into the crisp and sunny afternoon and sighed. "Is it smart to have her surrounded by the supernatural?" Val asked as they made the trek back to the office. "It'll be fine. She needs to get used to it as our mate," Wes said with a smile. He would never get tired of saying the word, especially now that they had found her and she worked right there on the same floor with them. They made their way to their floor and could see the IT wing from where they stood. They caught sight of Harlow and smiled until they noticed her irritated expression. Soon, James came into view and Val's eyes flickered from hazel to red.

They heard him make a flirtatious joke, but she didn't laugh or respond back and it was all Val needed. He made a move to walk over, but Damien stopped him. 'You can't risk doing anything reckless and scaring her. You saw how she reacted when you simply touched her back in front of employees. How will she respond to you making a fuss over her superior speaking to her?'

Val shook with anger. 'He's flirting with her!' Wes looked at him with calming eyes. 'Yes, and she's not responding. We all know James is a creepy little asshole and we'll destroy him should he make a move on our mate, but for the time being let her handle it.' Val didn't like their laissez-faire attitude, but relented. 'The moment she tells us she's uncomfortable I will end him.' Val walked off causing the demon and werewolf to exchange a look. They made it back to their office and focused on knocking out the remaining tasks for the day.

One moment it was 1:30 pm and the next it was a little bit after 6 pm. "Running a billion-dollar company sucks," Val said with a stretch causing them to chuckle. "It has its benefits." Wes said turning off his laptop. "I wish we could've seen her before she left," Val pouted as they headed out of their office. Mrs. Clara had called in sick that morning, so they didn't have to worry about walking her to her car. As they passed the IT department, they saw her still present typing away on her computer. They couldn't help the smile that graced their faces as they walked in.

"What are you still doing here, dove?" Damien asked startling her. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to frighten you." Harlow shook her head. "You're fine. I just get into this zone and literally tune everything out." She looked around and realized she was the last person there. "I don't even remember anyone leaving." She chuckled bashfully as she turned back to her computer. "Come on, Princess." Wes said with his hand stretched out. "It's time to go home." Harlow made a face, but knew they were right. She always hated getting back to the apartment late and she knew the sun had probably already set.

She packed up her things quickly before grabbing her purse. They headed into the elevator and Harlow realized just how tired she was all of a sudden. "How was your first day?" Val asked genuinely interested. "It was okay. It had it's weird moments." That got their attention and Wes asked for an elaboration. "I don't want to come off as a snitch or ungrateful, so it's fine. I can handle it." Val looked at them with a hard expression. 'She's talking about James!' He yelled mentally. 'You don't know that.' Damien tried to counter.

The truth was Damien needed to be level headed, because if he had confirmation that James made her feel any emotion other than professional pleasantries, he would ensure he remain on the seventh level of hell for all eternity. Harlow realized she forgot to press the lobby level as they stopped on the parking garage level. She watched as they stepped out. Val turned to her. "Aren't you coming?" He asked as he held the doors open. She shook her head. "I don't have a car."

Damien's eyebrow quirked. "How were you planning on getting home?" She seemed sheepish, but they wanted an answer. "I take the bus," she stated plainly. Wes' eyes widened. "The nearest bus stop is over a mile away." Harlow nodded and then shrugged. "Come on," Damien said reaching for her hand. The moment they touched Damien had to turn away as Bael was fighting to get loose.

Harlow couldn't deny that her body felt like her temperature had risen 30 degrees. There was something about Damien's touch that left her wanting more. She also noticed, however, that were Val's touch was almost ice cold, Damien's touch was freakishly warm. It was almost a little uncomfortable. She snapped out of it as they pulled up to a gray BMW SUV. "It's fine, really. I can walk and take the bus home." They all shook their heads no as Damien held open the passenger door. "Get in, dove." Damien was learning quickly that Harlow had a stubborn and rebellious side to her. He found it so damn cute, but not in this instance. "Please, little thing."

Harlow hated that she was a sucker for pet names. She had only had a few non-serious boyfriends in her life, but her favorite was Johnny and he always called her sweetheart. She was sure it's what made them last a month longer than they should. She got in the car worried about what these three handsome and wealthy men would think once they rolled up to the Central District. She wasn't even sure if they'd ever been there. She looked them each over as they got in the car and knew they hadn't. They would never.

"Where to, Princess?" Wes asked from the driver's seat as he pointed to the GPS. She entered her address and noticed the intake of breath from all of them once they realized where they were headed. "I know it's a shit place, but don't judge. It's all I'm able to afford at the moment." Harlow said looking out the window. She wasn't able to make eye contact with any of them. She didn't want to see pity or worse disgust.

'We have to get her out of there!' Wes said almost hysterical. 'Do you know how many rogue vampires and wolves life there?' Val said worriedly. 'We will get her out. In the meantime, we will watch her and put some men on her for her protection.' Damien said calmly, but inside he was terrified. Anything could have happened to their mate and they wouldn't have known since they haven't marked or mated with her yet. He was determined to get her out and in their mansion by the end of the month.

Harlow wanted to talk to them about anything else. She asked about their days and laughed at Val's honest confession about hating work. They shared laughs and she was honestly having a good time until the scenery changed. There was a dark cloud that seemed to hang over Central District and she knew they noticed. She pointed out her building and was ready to jump out until they parked the car and got out. Damien opened her door with a small smile. "What are y'all doing?" They looked at her confusedly. "You don't have to walk me up, honestly. The elevator stays broken and I've already put you out." They all shook their heads at her protest.
