the zero waste lifestyle was started to eliminate waste from going to landfill and to further prevent the enlargement of garbage dumps.

lauren tasker ( @trashisfortossers ) on instagram has become increasingly popular with her many many years of waste all fitting into a mason jar ( this would include tags from before she second hand shopped, straws from bars that either instinctively put one in her drink or from before she started saying no, and etc. ) she runs a store for things such as zero waste detergent.

many people, famous and not, are adopting to this lifestyle.

shops like these are becoming more popular: where people sell in bulk, from jars, and openly without stickers.

kenya, for example, as begun selling their cokes in glass bottles and bulk – where you get a certain amount of money back for returning the bottle.

countries are continuously becoming more and more innovative with their ways of producing / recycling.

people who go zero waste often shop at farmer's markets and have their own compost bins. mesh bags are great for carrying foods, and you can often sign up to a service that brings food to you.

michelle khare ( on youtube ) previously made a video enstating how not all fruit and vegetable grown on farms are sold- and 'defects' are miniscule. that means america is getting rid of high amounts of food, disclosing these as unsellable. said services can bring you these foods for much cheaper.

accounts such as @the.eco.warrior on instagram, bloggers, and news articles can help you find ways to limit down on the amount of waste you produce.

zero wasters often make their own makeup; use soap and shampoo bars; menstrual cups to reduce the amounts of sanitary pads and tampons being disposed of; bamboo or metal straws; reusable cotton pads to remove makeup; wooden combs; metal lunch boxes; tea strainers; steel razors; loofas; biodegradable toothpaste tabs; and so many other different alternatives.

however, at times purchasing these things can be expensive. all in all, there are smaller, cheaper ways of getting around spending as much as your usual - if not less! keeping glass jars and rubbing off the labels for example.

it's not too late.

if many little people in many little places do many little things they can change the face of the earth.

we don't need a handful of people doing zero waste perfectly, we need massive heaps of people doing it imperfectly.
