《Oh Baby》Gift of Screws

The weeks were moving along slowly, and Stevie was getting bigger and bigger. Lindsey thought it was so cute how huge she looked as the days progressed. The couple was standing in what would be the babies' nursery thinking about how to decorate it.

"Well I think we should go with a neutral color since we don't know for sure what we're having. Plus what if one's a boy and one is a girl? I don't want to have a little Lindsey stuck in pink chiffon or a little Stephanie stuck in blue baseballs!" Stevie semi-joked and pondered while staring at the white walls of the soon to be nursery.

"How about yellow?" Lindsey suggested.

"And we could make the theme puppies and baby animals! Oh how cute, Linds!" Stevie smiled brightly as Lindsey watched the wheels begin to turn in her head.

"Perfect. Let's run to the hardware store and find some paint samples. Ya know, I wish we wouldn't have waited so long. I'm getting nervous now it's too close to the due date. I read something about fresh paint and babies-"

"You read the books that I gave you?" Stevie interrupted eagerly. She was found some books about babies and tried to share them with Lindsey, assuming he wouldn't read them.

"Of course I did, Steph." Lindsey embraced his wife, feeling a wave of emotion pass over him. He knew Stevie's due date was approaching and was becoming a bundle of excitement and nerves.

They spent the rest of the day at the store looking over paint samples and picked out a perfect shade of pale yellow for the twins' nursery. Then, to Stevie's insistence they headed to the mall to find some decorations and other necessities.

"I really don't feel like dealing with fans today. I hope we can stay as incognito as much as possible. This is our first big outing as expectant husband and wife." Stevie said as the pair arrived to the mall parking lot.

"Well, we never really made a formal announcement to the press and I don't really think people expect Stevie Nicks to be almost nine months pregnant, so hopefully no one will even think it's you. We'll be okay. And we both know that no one knows who I am." Lindsey said, trying to calm her nerves.

The pair walked around for a few hours going into various stores finding the perfect decorations and cribs for their new bundles of joy. Luckily they hadn't been recognized, until they walked past a record store. Stevie made the mistake of looking into the store and making eye contact with a young girl.

"Oh my gosh, that's Stevie Nicks!" the girl shouted, and within seconds flashbulbs started going off and fans started to rush the couple. Stevie grabbed onto Lindsey with white knuckles as Lindsey tried to get her out of the situation. As much as he sometimes found himself a bit jealous of her solo success, he was always thankful that he wasn't as recognizable to the public as Stevie was.

"And that's Lindsey Buckingham!"

"Is she pregnant?"

Who's the father?"

"Are they wearing wedding rings?"

The curious fans surrounded them with questions, and Stevie was more and overwhelmed by the second. For the past few months they'd been in their love bubble, really only seeing family and friends while going back and forth to the studio with Fleetwood Mac. Usually, Stevie would stop and talk to her fans, sign autographs, and take pictures, but this was different. Her maternal side was growing and she felt very protective about her babies. Lindsey felt even more protective over Stevie, and he knew he had to get her out of there before all oxygen was sucked out of the room.

"Linds, I need you go get me out of here" Stevie pleaded through a smile as she tried to keep her head down. Her face was growing increasingly pale and Lindsey practically engulfed her in his arms and hurried her out to the car.

As soon as Stevie was safely in the car, she broke down in tears and started hyperventilating out of frustration.

"This isn't fair Lindsey!" she said in between sobs "These babies didn't ask to be born into all of this. What if they grow up to resent me because of it?"

"Honey, I need you to calm down, please. If you're not breathing, the babies aren't breathing. Let's calm down for a second." Stevie's breath evened out while Lindsey rubbed her back, but her tears didn't stop.

"Steph, don't even think that. These babies are going to love you and you're going to be an amazing mother! I know it's hard, but we'll get through it. Come on, let's go home and start on the nursery, ok?"

Lindsey picked up Stevie's solemn face staring at the floorboards through her tears. They got home, after going through the drive through to grab some milkshake to cheer Stevie up a bit.

Stevie started unpacking all of the cute things they'd bought for the babies. With each item, she got more and more excited. As she was unpacking, Lindsey put Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young's "So Far" on the turntable to listen to as they worked.

When "Our House" came on, Lindsey grabbed Stevie's waist and the pair started slow dancing, more in love than ever.

"Our house is a very, very, very fine house

With two cats in the yard

Life used to be so hard

Now everything is easy 'cause of you..."
