I've been toting this stupid ring around since we moved into this place. Our album is coming along. Nothing's done though. I'm almost ashamed of the ring. The diamond is very small, and it sits on a simple gold band. I wish I could give her more, but I can't. My odd painting jobs only give me so much money and what doesn't go to our impending rent jar, we have two more months left of our parents paying, goes to food or gas. Stevie's been waitressing, but Tips can only go so far. I'm giving it to her tonight, on Valentine's Day. I know it's cheesy, but I want to. I asked her parents at Christmas. They were thrilled. I hope she will be though. She hasn't even brought marriage up. I made Hamburger Helper. It's not the nicest but I tried. She had to work a double today but she'll be home soon. I'm waiting for her, a bottle of cheap wine and candles accompanying me.
"Lindsey. I'm home. Do you think you can fend for yourself? I'm exhausted, and I have to do it again tomorrow." She says not even looking at me, our front door is literally in our kitchen.
"Steph, I made you dinner," I say.
"Oh honey, I ate at the diner. I'm so sorry. Just put it in the fridge. We'll eat it tomorrow. At least you didn't burn the kitchen down." She says.
"But I wanted to give you something," I reply.
"Lindsey, I'm tired. Can't it wait until tomorrow? We have barely enough money in the rent jar. I'm working these doubles to fill it. I just want to go to bed." Stevie whines
"But it's important," I state.
"Nothing is more important than my well being Lindsey," She spits.

"Stevie...It's VALENTINES DAY! I HAD A SURPRISE FOR YOU. I WANTED TO GIVE YOU SOMETHING SPECIAL." I yell.
"Oh, it's not Valentine's day! Is it?" She asks eyes wide.
"Yeah," I say laying my head in my hands.
"Lindsey, I didn't realize. I didn't get you anything." She says starting to cry.
"It's not important now." I sigh getting up and walking into our bedroom.
I throw the ring in my sock drawer and grab a joint. Lately smoking grass is my only way to cope with having nothing and working at all hours just to make ends meet. Not even being able to have a nice meal with your significant other. I don't know how long Ginny and I sit out there, but when we go in, Stevie is asleep on top of the covers. Tear stains on her cheek. I set her alarm and cover her with an extra blanket. Ginny and I get ready to sleep on the couch.
As I'm laying down the phone rings and I wince, quickly answering it before it can wake Stevie up.
"Hello." I sigh.
"Lindsey, how did it go?" Barbara asks. She's way too excited about planning our wedding.
"It didn't," I state leaning my head against the wall.
"What do you mean? She said no?" Barbara gasps.
"I didn't even ask her. She got home from work and we got in a fight. I made dinner and everything. She came home didn't even look at anything I had set up. She was tired, and she wanted to go to bed. I told her I made dinner and she said she ate at the diner. Then I reminded her it was Valentine's day and we fought about it being Valentine's day. When she realized that I was right, she started to cry and said she didn't get me anything. I said it was okay, but then I just went and sat out on the fire escape. I just came in right before you called. She's passed out on the bed." I explain.

"Oh, I'm so sorry, what are you going to do?" Barbara asks.
"It's okay, and I'm not sure. I think I'll just forget about it for now." I shrug.
"Alright, goodnight dear." She sighs.
"Goodnight," I say before hanging up.

It's tense for about a week. But today somehow, we are both miraculously off. Should we be working on the album? yes. But are we? No. We decided that today, we would just stay in. We've both been doing our own things though. Last I checked, she was doing laundry. I'm writing some songs in the living room with Ginny.
"What do you think about that note Ginny?" I ask as she yips.
Suddenly, I hear a cry from our bedroom. I throw my guitar on the couch and run in there. Stevie is on her knees sobbing. My sock drawer is wide open. I sigh and lean against the door.
"Lindsey, I am so sorry. I should've eaten with you." She sobs as I just shrug.
"Oh, I've ruined everything." She sobs clutching the ring box to her chest.
"Well?" I ask.
"What.... you still want to marry me? Even after I ruined the proposal." She says in shock.
"Stevie, will you marry me?" I ask getting on my knees in front of her.
"Yes!" She answers still holding the ring.
I pry the box from her hands and slide the ring onto her finger.
"Oh, it's beautiful, and it fits perfectly." She says.
"It's really not. You deserve a way bigger diamond." I shake my head.
"No, I love it and I love it even more because it's from you...But, can I be Stevie Nicks and Stephanie Buckingham?" She questions.
"If you want. Stevie Nicks as your stage name, I'm okay with that." I chuckle.
"Oh! I have to go call my mother!" Stevie cheers kissing me and running into the living room.
Stevie rambled to her mother for over an hour, then we celebrated our engagement.
