《Christmas Wish (Completed)》Chapter 10

I just finished dressing from a shower in the attached bathroom, when there is a knock on the door. Risky move by doing this midday but I have to have a shower at least once a day or I just feel nasty, which is weird since we have been in this hospital room for almost two weeks.
I shuffle out of the bathroom, holding my bag when I see Holly checking Nicolas. He fell asleep not long after the treatment and has been napping for almost two hours now.
"Sorry, I was freshing up a bit more while he napped." I place my bags on the floor in the corner.
"No need to be sorry. You have to take time to keep yourself healthy too. Which is why I brought lunch." Holly smiles an hands a small bag out to me.
"Thank you."
"You and those manners. It is just us and Nicolas is resting so you don't have to keep them up so much." She laughs lightly.
I chuckle some. "Yes, I do. Can't teach manners if I don't use them and respect this amazing doctor that has been our snowflake wish."
It is true because to me she is one in a million that has came to help and grant the wish I asked for.
Holly smiles and tilts her head to where her hair covers her pink cheeks some. Before she moves to sit on the couch with a small bag of her own.
I sit and pull out what seems to be a burrito of some kind.
"It is just the basic burrtio with beef, lettuce, cheese and some packets you can add if you want too. There should be a bag of chips in with it." Holly pulls her food out, which looks to be a chicken verison from mine.
"I bought one for Nicolas too for when he wakes up for lunch, if he is hungry." Holly speaks up after swallowing her bite.

"If you tell me how much this costed, I will gladly repay you."
"Not in the least!" Holly whisper screams. "Besides I needed to take lunch and I know they dont serve the parents here, that tends to be a rare thing if they do. Also Nicolas needs good food to help him and not the things they will bring on a tray even though I put in food orders for his diet the staff downstairs don't follow it." Holly finishes her mini rant. Which I find cute.
"Okay, okay." I chuckle more.
We eat our food in in content quietness as the tv breaks the silence, since it is on and running over his favorite show.
Folding up the wrapper, I stick it in the bag and look to Holly who is still slowly eating her wrap.
"So your on lunch?" I could about smack myself.
"Yeah, I don't have a set time for one with right now my only patient case is Nicolas's." She smiles.
"I thought someone like you would have with another doctor or have someone to spend lunch with. To where you aren't stuck in here with us bored." I really have got to get better at small talk.
I have been out of the dating game for the longest and my hinting around skills are next to none.
Wait?
I am talking about dating! Is that part of what I am doing here and actually wanting or I am just that lonely I am snooping where I don't belong.
God, what is wrong with me! My son is in the hospital and extremely ill.
"Uh, no. There isn't no one special for me. I have never wanted to be one to date someone that I work with because things just get to messy that way." Holly sighs.
"I'm sorry, it isn't even my place." I try to back step.
"No, it's okay. I don't mind you asking." She smiles softly.

"I am guessing you seen in his chart my wife passed." I state.
"I did. I am so incredibly sorry to know that happened and now you're facing this. I promise though to do everything I can for Nicolas."
Her words shock me and I can see just how much she means her words with the caring compassion. Part of me thinks every patient may see a little bit of this from her but not this much as she shows while in the room, she lets herself relax in here with us.
"Isabel had a heart condition that was never diagnosed and there was nothing we could do after finding out because she was gone." I sigh and lower my head some.
I feel as soft skin touches my arm and see it is Holly. Her thumb slowly rubs across my skin and leaves the area warm.
Taking a deep breath, I look to Nicolas. "So what will be after the chemo?"
"So once we can cut his levels in half, Dr. Moore will do a stem transplant. Now, here is the thing we will test his blood after the next round after a few hours of the treatment. If the levels are coming down but not fast then we may split dosages and do a round every day, due to how fast it had spread before ever starting the chemo."
"Is there a timeline to when it needs to be down by."
"No there is not timeline at all. I am just wanting to help him as fast as his body can handle this course of treatment. If we push off chemo longer in between rounds then it would just about be useless due to how fast this cancer is working."
I nod slowly taking it all in.
"One thing I do want to bring up. For the stem-cell transplant, Nicolas may need a donor."
"I will do it." I cut her off. "Sorry, I jumped the gun there."
Holly smiles kindly. "I can test your blood to see if you are a match to Nicolas and by being his father there is a good chance you are. It would help him more as well because your family."
"When do we need to test and you get everything from me that you need to help him?"
"Well, I can get a blood sample today and have it ran to see if you match. If you are a good canditate for Nicolas, then we won't harvest any of the cells we need from you until the day of the transplant. The cells will only survive so long before they have to be preserved, but the best chance he has is by not having the cells froze before receiving."
"I got to tell Tony, he will jump on board too no doubt." I pull my phone out and send him a text.
I have Holly look it over to make sure the text sounded right before I sent it to him. Tony response with wanting to be tested too, which made me smile.
"He is a good friend." Holly smiles.
"I have known him since before turning eighteen and he is more like a brother than a friend." I smile back, which comes easily around Holly.
I left out knowing Tony from being in foster care together, but it would not surprise me if I tell Holly soon. She is bringing out a part of me that I thought died with my wife.

Hey Hey Guys!!!
Sweet moments here between Jack and Holly or no?
Does it seem like the conversation flows easily between the two of them?
What do you think of Holly using her lunch break and spending time in the room with them and not just dropping food before splitting to be on her own?
