ᅟ✞︎ vox and luca took the same route to their house since they live on the same street. shu, mysta, and ike also live on the same street so the three of them also went together.
"luca, have you noticed the club sign earlier?" vox asked.
"hmm? the club sign?" luca asked. "you mean that hanging old paper with a ghost doodle?"
"yeah..." vox mumbled, sweatdropping.
"what about it? you wanna replace it?" luca asked nonchalantly.
vox glanced at luca in shock. "sometimes, your idiotic ways surprise me."
"hey! that's not nice!"
"sorry, sorry. i'm just happy that you got something right for once." vox sternly said before the two of them stopped in front of a building.
signage maker
"come on, luca." vox said and pulled luca in.
"hey guys? what colors do you think would fit the club room?" shu asked as he, ike, and mysta walk around the curtain section of the department store.
"violet or black? a non-see-through curtain would be fitting for the occult club." ike said.
"it won't fit the president though." mysta mumbled
the three of them looked up at the cloud of thoughts bubble while thinking of the same thing. the club room having a pure white curtain, fitting for the pure y/n herself.
"no, no, no. it's an occult club. y/n would like it more if we pick something fitting for the club and not her." ike said with shu and mysta agreeing.
y/n on the other hand was just walking back home with the box in her arm, and her bag hanging on her shoulder. she was also staring at her phone while watching out her step.
her phone is very old, and it only contains 8 emails. nina, reimu, enna, and millie, and also her older seniors, selena, rosemi, and petra. and also her mom's email.
now there are 5 more emails.
aaahh, i'm so excited to use it one day. y/n thought and giggled.
y/n came to their building. they live in a real estate apartment with multiple rooms per unit. you see, just because her phone can be flipped doesn't mean she's poor. although that doesn't mean she's rich either.
when she came back home, her mom wasn't home. she went straight to her room and set her senior's things aside.
y/n took a bath, got in her comfy clothes, started studying, and that's when her mom came back home with groceries.
mrs. leto cooked dinner for the two of them. and after eating, y/n went straight to her mother's workroom— mrs. leto is an advertisement designer who works almost 24/7. y/n started making posters of the occult club again.
during the first week the school council president gave y/n, she also made posters on her mom's laptop. but her efforts were ignored, and the poster was actually lame.
this time, y/n went serious mode and did all occult research just for her club's new poster.
"ara. i see you're working very hard." mrs. leto, sena said and entered the room with a tray.
"ah, mama." y/n glanced at her mother before she continued designing.
"i saw you designing a poster for the occult club last week too." sena said while placing the sandwiches and juice she made for y/n. "would you like me to help you this time?"
"no—"
"i'll take that as a yes then. you already rejected my help last week. i'm not taking anything from you again, lady." sena said and sighed. "seriously, y/n. learn how to take and appreciate it when people ask for help, okay?"
y/n nodded. sena took another chair and sat beside her daughter to help her.
a few minutes later, y/n started telling her mother what happened at school today. where there were five transfers who helped you clean the club room.
"wow... anyone handsome from them?"
"mama!"
sena just laughed.
"they all look good." y/n just answered when her phone started singing a very old ringtone.
"gosh, y/n. your mother earns 200 thousand yen every month, yet your phone is older than me." sena said.
y/n ignored her mother and took her phone. it was an email.
from:
subject: look
we got you curtains and window cleaners!!
📎(1) attachment/s
the joy y/n felt when she received a mail from one of her new friends almost killed her. but what they did would've probably killed her more.
when y/n saw the attachment, she curiously opened it.
"are those the boys who helped you?" your mom asked.
it was a photo of mysta holding the phone for a selfie. he's holding a folded curtain while shu and ike are behind him. shu was holding the window cleaner while ike was just being himself.
"aww they're so cute. oh, i like this one for you—"
"mama it's not like that! jeez!"
"okay okay! so defensive~"

ᅟ✞︎ y/n came to school early to post all the posters on all bulletin boards. although she doesn't want to post it where the other posters would be covered, she wanted to flex her and her mom's work.
"ugh. it's you again."
y/n glanced behind after posting another poster.
"y... yes?"
"oi leto." kumi called and pushed the smaller lady's forehead. "stop posting posters, no one cares about your damn occult club okay?"
kumi took the poster y/n posted and crumpled it with one hand.
"your posters are ugly. no one will pay attention to them you sick bitch." kumi whispered. "you don't have any senpai's to stand up for you now, so good luck."
"oh by the way, just give up on reviving your creepy club. we need it more than you do." kumi said with a grin before walking away with her friends.
they must be the people who ruined the room yesterday. y/n thought while glaring at the girls.
good thing they didn't do anything to my remaining posters—
"oops." chieko giggled after pouring her warm coffee right at y/n's stack of posters.
she immediately let go of it because of the coffee's temperature. it even dripped onto her uniform.
"what are you glaring at?" chieko asked and lifted y/n's chin with a finger. "that's all you're good at, leto. just glaring. learn to use that mouth."
"oh right! you shouldn't! because you might curse on us~ ewww!" chieko said as she and her friends laugh at y/n.
they walked out for good, and y/n remained standing.
right. it's the weirdos who always get the bad rap. she's friendless and very shy, and was known for leeching at her seniors before. of course she'll be prone to bullying.
it was already fortunate enough that the guys only stare at her badly and doesn't attack her.
y/n started picking up the posters and set aside the wet ones. almost half of the papers were ruined with the coffee so she had no choice but to throw it.
it angered y/n a lot. she and her mother spent a restless night just designing a poster for her occult club and now...
"not that i can stand up for myself." m she whispered painfully before sticking another poster in the bulletin. again.

before the bell rang, y/n went back to her section with her head down low.
what's wrong today? everyone was staring at her more today. does she have something on her? did she do something wrong?
"wah! y/n!"
"gah!" y/n exclaimed after luca suddenly peeked through their section's door, right in front of y/n.
"good morning!" luca happily said.
"g-good morning, luca." y/n greeted back.
"ooohh what are those? can i have one?" luca asked, talking about the posters you are holding.
but you just felt shivers in your spine after you noticed how grim the previous stares became after luca talked to you.
looking at him, he seems friendly and nice, so he's probably friends with everyone.
and everyone wouldn't like me to leech on him too.
y/n just gave luca a piece before leaving without saying a word.
"huh... did i do something wrong?" luca mumbled to himself before going back to his seat, staring at the poster.
"wow! ike, look! this poster seems cooler than what we saw yesterday!" luca said to his seatmate, ike.
"hmm? oh, yeah. it seems professional and more of an occult club now. did y/n make this?" ike asked and took the paper.
"yup! she passed by so i went to say hi." luca said. "although... she kinda walked away immediately."
"i see."
unbeknownst to the two of them, everyone was looking their way.
why do they know leto? are they close? why are they close with her? those were some of the questions circling around peoples' heads.
leto y/n was like the bible's forbidden fruit. no one should dare approach her, because she is just like the forbidden fruit that god made everyone believe that it is peculiar and dangerous.
y/n went back to her classroom like usain bolt. when classes started, she can still feel everyone's eyes on her and she would've cried if the teacher wasn't there.
"hey, ike! hey luca!" shu greeted before the two could pass by section C. "you guys going to the cafeteria?"
"yeah. but we'd actually like to ask y/n to come with us too." luca said. "you guys wanna join?"
"sure! wait up." shu said and glanced at vox and mysta who have been arguing about lead and ink for 5 minutes straight.
"mysta! vox!"
"lead is found in caves!! ink is on water!"
"they can be both found in caves, mysta! and there's no ink in water!! you mean in squids!"
"they're the SAME F***ING THING MAN!!"
"SHUT THE FUCK UP MYSTA!"
"WHY IS YOUR F*** UNCENSORED AND NOT MINE?!"
"we're visiting y/n!" shu loudly said for the two to hear.
of course that successfully caught their attention. and everyone else's.
"you're hanging out with leto?" kumi asked.
the disgust in her voice had the five transfers snap their necks at her with a grim expression.
"wait up!" chieko barged in. "you can't blame us. leto has been weird ever since our first years."
"what do you mean by that?" vox asked, interested yet annoyed.
everyone in section C was silent and reluctant to tell them anything.
"why can't you guys speak up? is y/n a hotshot that you don't wanna f***ing share her or something?" mysta asked and sat back on his chair.
"w-well..." chieko mumbled and glanced at kumi who nodded at her.
"leto never made a single friend ever since first years. she's a loner, so she started sticking with the seniors." chieko said with a grin as she slowly gains confidence with her words.
"and she runs the occult club. who knows if she could put a curse on us once we befriend her?" she added.
everyone started laughing and that had the 5 transfers shocked and dismayed.
The students were actually bullying the occult club president. they never knew. and they could never be more disappointed.
they can't believe everyone is seeing how evil y/n is even though she's truly just an innocent ball of marshmallow who is so determined to revive her club again.
"stop laughing." luca said after coming inside the room. "y/n isn't weird. you guys are." he added.
he was so ready to pick a fight that shu also had to step in.
"maybe y/n didn't befriend everyone because when she was trying, no one made an effort to reciprocate." shu said.
the silence was so deafening. the boys couldn't figure out what the students were thinking, but they can't just stand there and let their new friend be belittled by some people who don't even know her personally.
"look. us being friends with y/n is none of your business." vox said. despite using the tone he'd normally use every day, it still made the students feel cold.
"you fuckers are just jealous because y/n made a lot of senior friends while you guys can't." mysta added. "oh hey look at that. no more censorship."
"you can bad mouth y/n all you want." ike also stepped in. "but we won't promise that we won't do anything."
"y/n is our friend now. if you need something from her, you have to deal with us first," luca added while cracking his knuckles.
kumi and chieko stepped back. "no, wait! you guys don't understand because you only transferred yesterday! if you were here ever since first year—!"
"then we would be there for y/n. nothing will change." vox said. "and here i thought i'd like you since you're my type." he added and left the room first.
kumi felt the whole world being thrown over her when she heard what vox said. and she missed the opportunity to be liked by someone like him just because of one weird girl?
"wait up guys-!" chieko tried stopping them, but her classmates just shook their heads.
"leto is pathetic. it wouldn't take them too long to get tired of her."
"i know right? she's really overbearing."
"ah! maybe she seduced them in her occult club room, that's why they're head over heels for her~?"
"leto is so fucking gross, man. having all the transfers to herself?"
"she's so weird!"
the shadow over ike's eyes just got darker. he couldn't take it anymore.
"shut up!" ike yelled, surprising everyone, including his friends.
"can you all hear yourselves?! what the fuck are you talking about?! how could those things come out of your mouth?!"
"the section C are arguing! come on let's look!"
"don't even stop me! i had enough of these people who think they're better than everyone else! you guys are ridiculous!"
is that ike? y/n thought and stood up with her lunch in her arms.
she went out of the room through the other door so she won't get caught up with the mess in section C. but she saw how angry ike was while his friends try stopping him.
did they step on his book or something? she thought and walked away.
"ike calm down! before the teachers catch us!"
"i don't care, vox. if i had to throw my books on these people's faces, i would be laughing while doing so." ike darkly said.
he took his arms away from shu and mysta before fixing his glasses.
"i don't want to hear any of those shit whenever i'm around. you probably wouldn't like what i'd do." ike said and walked out of the room.
"and don't even touch nor approach y/n ever again." mysta said while glaring at everyone with his eyes opened.
ike could recall y/n's face as she wiped his face yesterday afternoon. that face was just so pure and cute, you'll know how kind and shy she is in one glance. it was so far away from what everyone has been saying about her.
"i can't believe it. i really can't," ike mumbled.
"well that was hot."
"shut up, vox."
"right."
"y/n's not here." shu said after he peeked inside section B.
"y/n? you mean leto, right?" one of the section B students asked.
"what? are you gonna bad mouth y/n in front of us just like those section C scums?" ike asked with jaw tightening.
"huh?"
"calm down, ike." shu said as he pointed out the guy's white armband.
he's a member of the student council.
"leto would always go to the library and eat lunch with mrs. kanae." he said. "then." he immediately bid goodbye.
"that's sus." mysta said.
"no, it actually is. like, how did that guy know where y/n goes every lunch?" luca asked as they all walk again. "i-is he a stalker?"
"no, he's not." ike answered.
"you wouldn't know." luca replied.
"we have to talk to y/n." ike just said, to which everyone agreed.
· · ┈──────┈⛥┈──────┈ · ·
ᅟ✞︎ unfortunately, the library was locked and closed when the five of them came. they were about to leave when they heard y/n giggling and laughing inside.
they were relieved and glad. at least their worries were washed away, even just for a little bit.
why are they being so overprotective and worried for someone they just met yesterday, you ask?
people wouldn't understand. not until they meet the real y/n herself.
she just has this aura that tells them to stay and they won't regret it. not even a little bit.
and besides, who wouldn't help a friend?
"eat your cucumbers, leto."
"nope! don't wanna! iya! yada! ayaw! dili gani ko mo kaon! andwae! ich will nicht!" y/n exclaimed in all languages she know as mrs. kanae forces the chopstick with cucumber on her face.
"gaaahh!"
"you haven't even tasted it yet." mrs. kanae said and ate it.
y/n shivered. "not even my mom can make me. ah! speaking of my mama..."
y/n continued telling stories as the librarian listens to her. mrs. kanae doesn't know why y/n thinks she doesn't like her, when she's obviously giving her affection as best as she can.
although mrs. kanae won't deny that she has her own way of showing how much she likes a person.
"thank you for having me again, mrs. kanae." y/n said with her empty bento and a few occult books she has decided to borrow.
"yeah yeah. bring the books back."
y/n happily went to her club room to drop by and leave the books before she went back to the classroom.
club time came...
y/n went back to the library first to photocopy the club application form. but when she came back to the club room, there were unwanted guests.
"we see you've cleaned up."
so they really were the ones who did it. y/n thought.
"please leave." she mustered up the fear to tell them.
"aww. you're putting on a brave face now? just because you have gained another set of knights?"
"that's not it!" y/n exclaimed, her hug on the papers tightening.
"please... just leave."
"ah, there she goes again with the glares." chieko boredly said.
kumi stood up and grabbed y/n's jaw.
"because of you, vox now hates me."
"maybe he's afraid you'll grab his jaw like this too," y/n whispered.
kumi's hold tightened, so y/n tried fighting away from it.
"eh~? what's this?" chieko asked and took the papers from y/n.
"don't destr—!"
"eyes on me, y/n." kumi whispered. "we have a lot to discuss."
kumi's tone was sharp, and she literally looks like a snake right now, ready to bite her. y/n was scared, but she only have 4 days before she would give the club room up. y/n can't waste any more time.
she should be recruiting at this time!
kumi pushed y/n out of the club room, with her hands still on the poor girl's jaw. chieko followed while looking at the papers.
"club application forms?!" chieko exclaimed and laughed. kumi laughed with her as well.
"no one's gonna apply in your stupid club, leto." kumi said. "this club is only for creeps— for weirdos. only for you!" kumi exclaimed and threw her hold away.
y/n almost lost her balance, but she was relieved when someone held her shoulders.
"huh. i guess we're creeps and weirdos now." mysta said with a grin.
vox gently pushed y/n up on her feet again. "are you alright?" he asked with a soft voice.
y/n was starstrucked, but she immediately nodded.
"v-vox! mysta!" kumi nervously said. "i-it's not what it looks like!"
"s-shu..." chieko nervously mumbled.

8 119The Eternal Vigil
The year is 2220, a time when governments and nation-states are slowly becoming a thing of the past. Instead, all prominent parts of human society are now organizing around the commands of three great Artificial Intelligences, owned and operated by the world's largest corporation. World peace has been achieved, and the very word 'politics' has disappeared from people's lips. Religion has largely disappeared, replaced in some parts by worshipping of the great AIs, but mostly substituted by a devotion to material goods and faith in the market. There is now a general consensus that the best form of government has been found. No, it is not democracy, nor is it autocracy or oligarchy. Instead, it is technocracy - rule by the learned, the intelligent, and the skilled. And who are more learned, intelligent, and skilled than the great AIs? Exactly, no one. The AIs will correct some market failures once in a while, but shall otherwise let the market be free. After all, the freer the market, the freer the people. Some may question how society advanced to this stage, but that is all they will do - question. Because they will not find answers, for history is no longer taught anywhere. After all, it is not a practical subject. One cannot get a decently paying job with a history degree. Society doesn't have any time for people to idly ponder about the past. No, this is a practical society of practical people: engineers, doctors, lawyers, developers, managers, bankers, soldiers, and the such. My name is Aiden Scivit and I used to be one such practical man: minding my own business, doing my job, with the faith that hard work will always be rewarded by the market...and that politics and philosophy were things thought of by idly people who leech off society. But this all changed, and here is my story, my history. Just because the stories of ages long past have been erased, does not mean that a brand new beginning cannot be created. The story is already finished but I still need to do some editing so a chapter should be released each day for a month. It is a bit political, as you can probably tell by the introduction, so there is that (it will low-key read like a philosophy dump 10% of the time, so really it's like Atlas Shrugged but liberal and worse lol). Also, I actually wrote this in grade 10 as part of my MYP Personal Project, and recently touched up on it for online publication. Finally, if you find the writing style passable and are interested in my other works, check out the one in the link below. It is a fantasy set in the Ancient Greek world, and is completed and uploaded in full: https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/35099/the-oresteia-modernized
