《Moments | Spideychelle Oneshots Collection》The One With Ned's Girlfriend (pt. 1)

One day, Ned had told his best friend and college roommate Peter Parker about this lovely girl that he is now dating. Of course, Peter was very supportive. Ned wanted him to meet his new girlfriend.
He arranged a dinner at a fancy restaurant and all of them had to dress up formally for this. At the venue, Peter was the first to arrive. When he glanced at the entrance of the restaurant, there was Ned. His arms were interlocked with a beautiful girl's. Peter's eyes widened when he saw her. She looks like an angel, he thought.
"Peter, this is Michelle Jones." Ned introduced him. He held out his hand and she took it.
"Call me MJ." She told him. He couldn't bring himself to speak so he just nodded.
"Let's take our seats?" Ned asked. Both of them nodded. He pulled out a chair for MJ and she sat down. He followed.
"So, how did uhh.. you two meet?" Peter asked.
"Well, we grew up together." Ned put his hand on Michelle's. "I had a crush on her since I was in 5th grade. We kinda fell apart in high school but then we rekindled and well.. here we are, dating in college."
"That's so sweet. Wow, after all that time." Peter couldn't help but stare at MJ. She looked stunning. But of course, too much staring is dangerous. He didn't like her, right?
"Well, love does find a way." said MJ, looking back at Ned and smiled. He smiled back. Peter suddenly felt left out and shifted onto his seat. It was so uncomfortable being a third-wheel.
Throughout the whole meal, they just talked and talked and shared a lot of stuff. Michelle and Ned talked about their first date and all, and Ned would open up a topic about him and Peter and how they met at the start of the semester of the first year. After that, Peter went back to his dorm room and waited for Ned until he comes back from taking MJ to her dorm. As he waited, he sat on the bed, thinking about how the night had been. The image that showed up in his mind was Michelle. The oh-so-gorgeous Michelle Jones. He rubbed his eyes and shook his head. No, she's my best friend's boyfriend. It's wrong, he thought.
The following day was a Saturday. Peter took some time off by going to the library and advance study about some stuff. As he put his earphones on and skimmed through the book titles on every aisle, he sees MJ on the other side of a shelf. He turned away from her and panicked. What do I do, what do I do?! He didn't know what to do. He walked to another shelf but suddenly,

"Hey, Peter!" She called out. Not too loud, but just the right amount. "What're you doing here?" She asked.
"Oh, I was just... you know..." He scratched the back of his hand and absentmindedly looked at his arm which he noticed, had been carrying a book the entire time. "I was just gonna go get a table and read up on some stuff."
"Oh, cool! Can we.. share a table, then?" She asked. Peter had seemed to blush because of this.
"Uhh, yeah. Sure!"
"Great. Thanks. Just, save me a seat. I'll try to find you later." She went back to the aisles and looked for a book. Peter sighed and went to go find a table.
Oh my god, what am I supposed to do now?! He panicked. He tried calming himself down but it wouldn't work. Minutes later, he saw Michelle walking up to him and realized that there was no time left to get a hold of himself.
"Hey!" She called after him. He smiled and gave a quick nod. "Thanks for saving me a seat, by the way. The library becomes unexpectedly full throughout the day." She said as she pulled out a seat and sat down.
"Yeah. Probably just random students hanging out around here, waiting to be shushed by the librarian." He tried to humor her which worked. She chuckled.
"Yeah, probably." She opened her book to a random page and started reading. Peter pretended he was reading but stole quick glances at MJ. He was almost caught a few times and stopped for a while. Then, he glanced and glanced again. Michelle hid a grin. "Tell me, what is it, Peter?" She asked.
"What..What do you mean?" He absentmindedly touched his ear.
"You keep staring at me. Is there something on my face?"
"No. You're perfect." He blurted out. Her grin faded away. "I meant, there's nothing on your face. You..You're fine." He quickly lended his attention to his book.
"Okay...?" She lended her attention back to her book as well. They awkwardly sat there like that, pretending they were reading when really tons and tons of thoughts ran through their mind.
"Listen, I'm just gonna.. go, now." Peter said, swiftly cleaning up his stuff.
"Okay." She nodded and glanced back at the book. He rushed to the bookshelf where he got the random book from and headed his way out of the library.

Days pass by and Peter is still distracted by the thoughts of Michelle. He hasn't confronted Ned about all of this lately but he's having second thoughts about doing so. He doesn't want his friendship with him to be fractured.
One day, Ned, out of curiosity, had asked Peter why he'd been avoiding his girlfriend.
"Do you not like her?" He was a bit irritated. Peter thought this was so ironic. If only he knew, he thought. He wanted to tell him the truth so badly. Maybe not the full truth yet, but the truth nonetheless.
"Ned, I don't hate her."
"Then why do you avoid her, huh?" His face has gone red now. He sighed, exasperated. "Peter, listen. You are my best friend. And she's my girlfriend. I don't want you guys to be caught up in a fight. I want you guys to get along." Peter heaved a sigh.
"What do you want me to do?"
"Just.. spend some time with her. It'll make you realize that she's a great person, and I love her." Those words ate him up inside. He loved her too. But he couldn't have her, as bad as he wanted to. "I just don't want you guys to argue whenever I hang out with the both of you."
"It's not that I hate her..."
"Then why do you avoid her?" Peter took some time to make up an answer.
"I think she's great, Ned. And I have nothing against her at all. And you two are amazing together. I just don't wanna get in the middle of that, is all."
"I'm glad that you see it that way, Peter. But she won't be convinced by that. Just spend a bit of time with her, for me. Please?" Peter took a deep breath.
"Okay."
"Thanks, dude."
Michelle and Peter took the same classes. They had an upcoming test for their Math subject. She had asked him if he wanted to study together. It was her way of asking if they could spend some time together, just what Ned had asked them to. Peter thought about what he and Ned had discussed previously, so he agreed to study with her.
"Hey!" She gleefully greeted him by her door. Her bright smile made him grin.
"Can I come in now?"
"Yeah. Welcome. My roommate's out for now but she'll probably be back in an hour or two. Put your stuff on my bed." He did as he was told.
"Sooo..." He started.
"I guess you know why I invited you over, right?"
"Yeah. Listen, I don't hate you at all. I think you and Ned are great together."
"Well, let's just get to know each other better, okay? After all, it's what Ned wants for the both of us anyways."
"Right."
The two had discussed so much about each other: their backstories, their family lives, Ned and Peter's friendship, and so much more. Peter did leave out his Spiderman thing and kept it a secret. It's better if no one knows about it, he thought. Even Ned.
"So what did you say about how you and Ned met, again?" She said, laughing.
"We were in high school and it was probably the first day of school. I ran into him in the bathroom while he was... doing his business in one of the stalls." MJ went into fits of laughter, which made him giggle a bit too. "I didn't know he was in there!" She grabbed his arm and tried to calm down. She wiped tears that came out from her eyes.
"I still can't." She stopped laughing for a bit and sat up straight on the bed. She stopped a few chuckles and looked at Peter slowly. She grinned. He let out a smile too. He tucked a piece of her bang on her ear and leaned in closer. He didn't hesitate, she didn't either. To them, this seemed.. natural. His lips pressed against hers ever so slowly. Both knew this was wrong, yet it felt so right. They didn't do anything to stop it and just kissed and kissed and kissed. A few seconds later, he pulled away. His face reddened.
"I.. I..." He started, but failed to say anything. She stood up and paced the room, biting her nails.
"Oh god, this is bad." She murmured to herself.
"I'm so sorry, Michelle. I.. I.. I have to go." And with that, he rushed to pack his things and left, leaving her confused and troubled.
