《Soaring High - Discontinued》Chapter 12

Dream

Percy looked around the milky white room, confused. She'd had demigod dreams before, but none of them looked like this, and they had pretty much stopped after the wars. Everything was completely empty so she was surprised she even had a sense of direction.

She wandered around her dream for a minute before her demigod senses started to tingle. She uncapped Riptide and got into a threatening stance. She didn't say a word, in case she could get the element of surprise.

The hairs on the back of her neck suddenly stood straight up and she spun around, swinging her sword expertly. The figure behind her jumped back and yelped.

"Are you trying to kill me or what?" the man said, annoyed.

He looked and and Percy relaxed. Mostly.

"What the Hades is going on Apollo?" she said back, equally annoyed.

"Yeah Apollo, what's going on?" a new voice behind her chimed in and she turned around again, prepared to fight.

"Whoa!" Hermes backed up, handing in front of him, "Watch where you're pointing that thing."

"Then don't sneak up on people," Percy retorted, putting her sword back in her pocket, "Now could you tell me what I'm doing here? And where is here exactly?"

"Well, you see young Persephone," Apollo started, slinging an arm around Percy's shoulder, leading her into more whiteness, "We've come to warn you about something. And to give you a gift."

Percy immediately backed out of his grasp.

"I am not participating in another prophecy. So you can tell Delphi to stick it right back in-"

She was cut off by Hermes putting an arm around her.

"Chill Percy, it's not a prophecy or a war. Apollo just has no communication skills."

Apollo pouted.

"It's why he hasn't had any new children in a while," Hermes whispered, to which Percy snickered.

"Hey!" Apollo said in indignation.

"But seriously," Hermes said, getting to the point, "Basically, this is what happened. Athena unearthed some new and fun ancient scrolls. I stole them. Now we're gonna try them out."

"Oh no," Percy muttered.

"Oh yes," Apollo said gleefully, "And you have no choice but to take part!"

"You're gonna need this," Hermes said, thrusting a small spray bottle towards her.

Before she got the chance to protest or even look at the bottle, Hermes waved his caduceus while Apollo strung his lyre and a small black hole opened up, a stark contrast to all the white.

Wind started to whip around as the hole got bigger and bigger. Percy had trouble holding on to Hermes but the two gods didn't seem affected.

"Well!" Apollo started.

"Off you go!" Hermes finished, snatched his arm away and pushing Percy towards the hole.

"I'm gonna kill you guys!" she screamed as she was flung into the hole and spun around and around until she fell through.

Almost as suddenly as it appeared, the black hole was gone and everything was calm again.

Apollo turned to Hermes.

"We're going to regret this, aren't we?"

"She is going to kill us, so yes, yes we are," Hermes nodded, then paused, "Wait, so if she's over there, whose dream is this?

Apollo stared at him as if he just now doubted his entire existence.

"I don't know. Huh. Okay yeah this is weird. Bye," Apollo flashed out.

Hermes started at the spot he was before leaving as well to watch the mayhem that would ensue.

Or had ensued.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Percy had stopped screaming as soon as she regained her bearings. Granted, she was still falling through the black hole, but it was not like she expected. It was almost...peaceful. She wondered why it was called a black hole when everything around her was white. White above, white to the sides and white on the bottom.

The only way she knew she was falling was the extreme winds and hurtling feeling she felt in her stomach. She looked down and had a start. She was wearing her Seabird costume, mask and all.

"What the-" she began but cut herself off when she thought she saw a small dot in the distance below her. In a matter of seconds the dot was bigger and she realized what was going to happen.

"Oh, shit!" she swore and began to brace herself for impact. Her Roman Eagle training was not going to be any help here; she was going way too fast.

The hole got bigger and bigger until her only thought was, I'm going to die.

So obviously she was surprised when she found herself suddenly surrounded by water. She looked around her, as was extremely confused. This looked like Mount Justice, except everything was submerged in water. She looked down and saw the black hole she came from, immediately close.

If she fell down a hole, how did she pop up from the ground?

Confused, was not a strong enough word.

She looked above her, to see two figures near the surface, encased in a silvery metal looking substance. She could feel the water rising fast, which meant that those two people, whoever they are, were going to drown soon, and she couldn't let that happen. She shot up to the surface discreetly and gaped at the scene in front of her.

Wally and Conner were trapped inside the rock thing, while Kaldur and M'gann were in a cafe made of fire. Robin was passed out in a puddle of water. There were two red metal figures that looked suspiciously like Red Tornado facing someone who appeared to be Artemis. She was holding her bow out to them as if surrendering.

Now Percy saw that there were many, many things wrong with this picture, but the one thing that came to her mind first, was that everyone was tiny. As in extremely young. And the cave looked different, older, and not as teched out as is it usually was. She glanced at the bottle in her hand that she forgot she was still holding. Memory Wipe Spray.

Realization hit her like one of Mrs. O'Leary's hugs.

Time Travel.

She snapped back to reality when she heard a large clang and looked quickly over at Artemis who had jumped over the two evil robots. Percy watched as she kicked one of them in the face, and launched off of the other one's head and fired an arrow across the cave.

Everyone's eyes followed the arrow as it soared across the water and lodged itself inside what looked to be an EMP. Everyone stared with bated breaths, waiting for it to go off and shut down the robots, but Percy realized that it hadn't gone completely in.

"NO!" Artemis shouted, trying desperately to get away from the robots, but the male one picked her up by the throat.

"A pathetic attempt to save your friend. Now you will all die," he hissed --as best as an android could-- and tightened his hold. Artemis coughed and spluttered.

The female one held up her hand and prepared to shoot a blast of fire at her.

"Artemis!" Wally yelled, the water almost covering his face.

"Not on my watch," Percy growled, speaking for the first time since she arrived in the past. Wally and Connor, not knowing she was there, looked over to her, surprised.

Percy leaped into action, using the water underneath her to propel herself up towards the platform. She slammed into the male robot, making him drop Artemis. The female turned to her and blasted her with fire instead, but Percy was already two steps ahead.

She controlled the water below her to create a shield. The fire dissipated and Percy launched the shield outward, sending the android flying into a wall. Percy kept her there by wrapping her with tendrils of liquid. The male robot tried to blast her with water, but she didn't even try dodging it.

When the water cleared, he looked surprised--well, as surprised as a robot could look-- which Percy used to her advantage and pinned him to the wall with ice shards. While the robots were still struggling against their bonds, Percy vapor traveled to the EMP and pushed the arrow further to the back. The device activated and sent an electrical signal throughout the room. Percy watched as the robots immediately stopped struggling and fell limp.

She vapor traveled back over to Artemis, still trying to regain her breath and helped her up.

"Thank you," Artemis said, choosing not to ask questions as she rubbed her neck.

Percy sent a stream of water over the fire cage and dissipated it. Immediately, M'gann sighed in relief, though she was still unconscious. Kaldur still didn't look too well so Percy dumped a couple gallons of water on him and he immediately strengthened.

She looked down and waved her hands, making the water slowly recede from the Cave and Wally and Conner could breathe again.

"Kaldur, how's M'gann?" Conner shouted.

Kaldur looked at Percy gratefully, and spoke, "She breathes, but what of Robin?"

Percy almost had a heart attack.

She ran as fast as she could over to Robin and listened for a heartbeat. Artemis was close behind, looking horrified.

She didn't know if she heard one or not, but closed her eyes and put her hand on his chest. She felt for the water inside his lungs and slowly led it out of him. The small stream of water escaped from his mouth and a few seconds later, Robin coughed and sat up.

Percy, too relieved to think, immediately hugged him.

"Um who are you?" Robin was confused.

Percy stepped away, embarrassed, realizing her boundaries, and allowed Artemis to hug him.

"He's breathing too!" she called to the Wally and Conner, who cheered.

"Thank god," she breathed, and he smirked at her.

"Way to get traught," he joked and she laughed.

The team gathered near the bottom of the cave, where Wally and Conner still stood, trapped.

"Figured my only chance was to surrender, pretend to drown before I actually did. Blacked out, though," Dick said, shrugging.

A few feet away, Percy was turned the memory wipe bottle around in her hands, listening. She shook her head in amusement. Same old Dick...

"M'gann," Connor started, concerned.

She reached over to grip his hand tightly, with a small smile on her face.

"I'll be fine," she assured and he managed a smile as well.

"Yes, and we have her to thank," Kaldur said, addressing Percy.

She looked up at the mention of her name, and found everyone staring at her.

"What?" she asked.

"Who are you?" Dick asked, curiously but also a little suspicious.

Percy twiddled her thumbs and grimaced.

"That's a really, really long story," she started, but seeing as everyone was waiting for an answer, she continued, "Well, my name's Percy and I'm from the future."

Everyone stared.

Then Wally laughed.

"Okay babe, why don't you tell us who you really are," Wally said, and Artemis looked like she wanted to facepalm.

Percy wanted to glare, but she decided to not scare the shit out of him.

"I'm telling the truth. My name is Persephone and I'm from roughly 7-8 years in the future," she insisted, "I can prove it too."

Dick looked thoughtful, "Okay, fine. If you can prove it, we'll believe you."

Percy flashed a smirk at him, and Dick was taken aback at how much it looked like his.

"Well, we know each other pretty well in the future, so, here goes. Ever since you became Robin, you've realized that the only thing better than riding your motorcycle is riding on top of a bus and your favorite fast food place is Belly Buster, because that's where you and certain red-head always hang out. When you were 9, you got a hold of B's suit and wore it, or literally dragged it, around for days and," Percy leaned into his ear for the last one, "You have a stuffed elephant named Zitka that you still keep around."

She leaned back and was smug when a light blush dusted across Dick's usually composed features. The others didn't hear the last one, but Connor smother his laugh with a cough.

"Oh, and I forgot, Bats' code for time travel mishaps is Alpha Z275GE. Huh. Who knew that would come in handy?"

Dick's mouth dropped open in surprise.

"You're telling the truth," he said, astounded.

The others looked confused, so Dick explained.

"Batman has specific codes for certain situations that he has me memorize," he said.

"For things like time travel, dimension travel, mind control, and a whole bunch more," Percy continued.

"Yeah, but that doesn't explain why you know them," he said, looking towards her for an explanation.

Percy grinned mischeiviously, "Unul dintre avantajele de întâlnire fiului său."

(One of the perks of dating his son.)

Dick blushed a firetruck red and widened his eyes in shock.

"W-what?" he stuttered, and everyone else looked on curiously.

"You heard me," Percy cackled, silently thanking Dick for teaching her Romanian.

"Okay, you guys probably have a lot of questions, so I'm going to make this short. In the future, I'm a hero, like you guys. I work on my own for a little while before I meet Robin here and we become pretty close. Fast forward a couple months, Batman asks if I want to join the team, and I say yes. Happily ever after!"

Robin blushes again at the "pretty close" part, and everyone else is just starting to digest this.

"Wait," Artemis interrupts, "But isn't you telling us this going to disrupt the timeline?"

Wally frowns. "I hate to agree with her, but Flash always tells me not to mess with the timeline."

Artemis glared at him for the first part of the sentence.

"Well, I didn't mean to come here. My stupid cousins pushed me into some kind of black hole. But it's okay, because they gave me this memory wipe bottle thing. So as soon as we figure out a way to get me home, I'll erase your memories of me and be on my way."

"Sounds like a plan," Dick said, still unable to look Percy in the eye.

"Robin?" Kaldur asked, "Why do you look like a tomato?"

Percy burst out laughing and Dick just looked at the ground, grumbling. When it became clear that he wasn't going to say anything, Percy stepped up.

"Well, I told him that the reason I know Batman's codes is that, in the future, we're together.

Wally choked. Connor, Kaldur and Artemis looked mildly surprised, while M'gann just looked really happy.

"Oh that's wonderful!" she said, floating over to hug Robin.

"Wait," Wally interrupted, "Together as in together together?"

Artemis smacked him in the head.

"What other kind of together is there idiot?" she said, and he groaned.

"You didn't have to hit me that hard, woman," Wally said.

"Yes, yes I did."

"That's great and all, but we're still stuck in this, whatever this is," Conner said, half growling.

M'gann squeezed his hand once more and he calmed down.

"Here," Percy offered, "Let me help."

Percy pulled out Riptide from her pocket.

"Whoa!" Wally shouted, "Don't come near me with that thing!"

Percy and Artemis rolled their eyes.

"What a baby," Artemis muttered, and Percy snickered.

She brought the sword down on the substance, slicing though it easily, as if it were butter. She freed Wally first, who zipped around a few times to loosen up his muscles, before doing the same to Connor. The half-Kryptonian simply chose to stand next to M'gann, who smiled up at him.

"Why didn't you just use the laser beam?" Wally questioned, still a little shaken up from the giant gleaming sword.

"It wouldn't work," Artemis stressed, "EMP shuts down all machines, remember?"

"All machines present at the time," a robotic voice called.

The team jumped in surprise, but it was only Red Tornado, flying in. The Justice Leaguer looked around.

"What has occurred?"

"Had a little visit from your family," Dick said, gesturing to the two fallen androids.

"Your extremely nasty family," Artemis added, still bitter about the whole thing.

As usual, Red Tornado expressed no emotions. "I was not aware I had relations.

"Where have you been?" Conner asked, accusing. He was still upset about M'gann getting hurt.

"Monitor duty at the watchtower," Tornado said, gliding across the floor, "When it became clear that cave communications were down, I attempted to investigate, but your zeta tubes were also nonfunctional. I transported to Providence and proceeded here."

Tornado knelt down to get a closer look at his so called 'siblings.'

Suddenly, Sphere beeped and wiggled from his place in the wall.

"Here boy," Connor called to his pet.

The laser in Artemis's hands went off and she jumped back in surprise, pointing it away from her teammates.

Dick gasped. "The pulses went off!"

Percy realized what that meant and immediately turned to Tornado, but it was too late.

Tornado had touched his siblings and shocked them back to life. Percy leaped towards them, but Tornado flew into the air and held out his hands. He started to suck the oxygen out of the air and Percy started to choke. She stumbled back towards Dick, trying to reach him and the team around her started to collapse.

"Can't...breathe," Artemis gasped, holding her neck for the second time that day, she kneeled over and passed out. The last thing Percy saw was Dick grunting and falling over as well. She held out her hand as if trying to save him before she succumbed to the darkness as well.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Robin, Robin can you hear me?" Dick groaned and got up at the sound of his mentor calling him.

"You're fine now," Batman said, helping him up.

Dick looked around to see most of the League comforting their proteges. Artemis was the last one to wake.

"What happened?" Superman asked.

"What happened?" the blond archer repeated, furious, "Red Tornado and his--Wait where are they?"

Dick turned to her. "They're gone," he said solemnly, "All three of them. Gone."

Then a thought struck him.

"Wait, he gasped, "Where's Percy?"

Batman furrowed his brow. "Who?"

Dick hesitated. How was he supposed to explain this?

"Ow," Percy groaned, as she appeared from behind gods knows where, "That hurt more than when Wally accidentally dropped a freaking piano on me and D--"

She cut herself off when she saw the entire Justice League staring at her. Dick covered his mouth so he didn't laugh.

"Um, hi?" she tried for a smile.

Batman narrowed his eyes. "Who are you?"

Percy now knew from experience what to do. She stood up a little straighter and spoke confidently, "Alpha Z275GE."

Batman almost widened his eyes behind his mask, but managed to refrain from doing so.

"Leaguers, take you proteges home to rest. Those of you without one, head to the Watchtower to start the investigation on this. Robin and Percy, I presume, come with me."

The League didn't even argue, taking the young heroes back to their homes, only sparing a glance or two at Percy.
