《in time ✱ j. jungkook》✱ chapter eight

"What was that all about?" Youngjae asked as we sat down, letting our feet dangle in the pool.
After that whole thing went down in there with Jungkook, it seemed as if everyone around us just stopped dancing or drinking and decided to look at what was going on between us.
Yeah, because us three are way more interesting.
We decided to get out of there before anything else happened. The whole place just got so tense super quick.
Why did Jungkook act the way he did?
I gasped as a beautiful thought passed my mind. My heart fluttered.
Was he mad because I technically beat him? He thought I wasn't going to bring a date, but here I am.
With a date.
Does this mean I finally won?
"I have no idea," I finally answer his question, taking a chip from my plate and popping it into my mouth.
We were currently outside, letting our feet go in the pool. There were a couple people in the pool, but overall there were not many people in the backyard. It was quiet and nice.
Plus, no Jungkook. Makes for an even better place.
"He seemed almost jealous, don't you think?" Youngjae countered.
I whipped my head quickly to face him, my eyes wide. I shook my head furiously. "No no no no no no no. He was definitely not jealous. If anything, he was shocked because he didn't think that I would actually bring a date. I beat him!"
Youngjae furrowed his eyebrows, "What do you mean you beat him? Did you guys make a bet or something?"
My smile began to falter as I began to replay the events that happened earlier this week.
Technically, we didn't make a bet. This wasn't a competition either. This was more of Jungkook seeing right through me and thinking that I wasn't going to come through.
I didn't win.
Damn it.
I slump my shoulders and sighed. "No, never mind."
"Anyways, I think he was jealous. Do you think any guy would react the way he did just because I kissed your head?"
I snorted. "Trust me, Jeon Jungkook was not jealous."
Youngjae gaped at me. "Are you really that thick-headed?"
"What?"
He sighs while shaking his head and looking up at the sky. "Nevermind."
I shrug and continue eating my chips.
Jungkook wasn't jealous, right? Maybe he was just . . . disappointed that I actually did bring someone?
That doesn't make any sense.
Whatever.
I push the thoughts out of my mind and look up at the sky as well. "The stars are so beautiful tonight."
Youngjae hums, "Is this the part where I turn to face you and say that you're beautiful too?"
I laugh and hit his arm playfully. "It would be greatly appreciated."
Our little moment was interrupted when I heard someone shouting my name.
I turned around to see some girl I've never seen in my life. "Is there a Park Miyoung out here? Hello? Miyoung?"
I looked at Youngjae who also looked confused as well.
"That would be me!" I called out over to her.

The girl's face lit up as she made her way quickly to me. "Taehyung's looking for you."
My heart starts beating faster at the mention of his name. "Taehyung? As in Kim Taehyung? As in the person who threw this party?"
"Uh. . . yeah?"
I grabbed Youngjae. "Okay, where is he?"
"By the kitchen."
"Thanks!" I called out to her, making sure Youngjae was with me the entire time.
"Why are you dragging me along with you?" He asks as we near the kitchen.
I scoff, feeling tense by the second. "I need emotional support idiot. Plus, I need to show him that I really did bring a date."
He lets out a small 'oh' before we enter the kitchen.
There in all his glory stood Kim Taehyung. He was leaning against the island counter, laughing at whatever Jungkook said.
Taehyung sure is quite a sight.
Jungkook on the other hand. . . he could be Shrek's twin brother.
"Jungkook's here too." Youngjae whispered from behind me.
"No shit, Sherlock!" I grunted back, getting ready to smack his arm. I was stopped when I heard God himself call out to me.
I turn around slowly and see both Taehyung and Jungkook looking straight at me. Taehyung had that cute little boxy smile plastered across his face while Jungkook looked as sour as ever. I thoroughly ignored him and waved shyly at Taehyung, making sure Youngjae was right with me.
It's now or never.
"Hey Taehyung, happy birthday." I smiled sweetly at him, awkwardly patting his arm.
He beamed, "Thanks for coming, it means a lot." He pauses to look at Youngjae who had a firm grip on my hand. "Is this your date?"
I nodded and brushed my hand against Youngjae's arm. "Yes, this is Yoo Youngjae. He's in Class 12-C. Youngjae, this is Taehyung and well, you've already met the lovely Jungkook." I sarcastically said, bowing to emphasize on lovely.
Jungkook rolled his eyes.
"Nice to meet you man. Great party." Youngjae nodded at Taehyung.
Taehyung let out a small smile his way. "Thanks."
It didn't take long for the four of us to go quiet. Youngjae was looking around the room, Jungkook fished out his phone and scrolled through, and Taehyung was looking at me.
Woah back up. Taehyung was looking at me?
I tilt my head slightly and watch him look down awkardly before meeting my eyes. "You look really good tonight, Miyoung. I didn't pin you for that kind of style to be honest, but you suit it well."
I feel the heat rushing to my cheeks. "T-Thanks, I've gotten that a lot tonight actually." I say, shooting Youngjae a glare to which he smiles meekly.
"Doesn't she look good Jungkook?" Taehyung asks over to him, nudging his elbow in the process.
Jungkook looks up from his screen, eyes me up and down twice, then looks back down on to his screen. "She's trying too hard. She looks like a goth."
I gasp, lunging myself towards him. "Take that back!"
I start hitting him with a scowl on my face. He starts fighting back. "Well, I wasn't going to lie now was I? Honesty is the best policy!"

"Shut up!"
Youngjae tears me away from Jungkook, grasping both of my arms tightly. "Miyoung, he's basically agreeing with Taehyung."
"No I'm not!"
"No he's not!"
Taehyung chuckled. I sigh and close my eyes. I don't want another scene. I just want to go home and watch Youtube.
"Hey Miyoung, can I uh. . . can I talk with you? Alone?" Taehyung asks.
My eyes widen as I look at Youngjae who gives me a playful smile.
Stupid bastard.
"Would you mind if I stole her away for a couple of minutes? I swear I'll bring her right back to you." Taehyung turns to Youngjae.
"Sure. Just don't try anything on her," he replies, sending me a subtle wink. "I'll be over with my friends by the pool table. Make sure to text me and I'll come find you, okay?"
I nodded as I watched him walk away. My shoulders slump when he finally gets out of sight.
It's not that I'm not happy to be alone with Taehyung, this has been my goal for who knows how long. But now that it's actually happening, I want to run away and dig myself in a hole.
"Is Jungkook joining us?" I mutter sourly, watching him from the corner of my eye. He had put away his phone and was watching the scene unfold in front of him.
"No." Taehyung sharply answers. "I'll be right back."
Jungkook's jaw ticked ever so slightly, his eyes dashing between Taehyung and I.
"And I care because?"
Taehyung chuckled and rolled his eyes. "That's true. I'll see you in a few."
And with that, Taehyung leads me out of the kitchen and to the pool in the backyard where I was previously at with Youngjae.
We sit down on some of the pool chairs, silence overcoming us.
Did he really just bring me out here just so we could sit in silence?
Not that I mind, silence is better than talking and turning into a tomato.
After a couple more seconds of neither of us saying a word to one another, Taehyung speaks up. "So. . . your date. He seems like a nice guy, right?"
My heart pounds. Don't screw this over Miyoung. "Y-Yeah, Youngjae's a great guy." I pause, looking over at Taehyung who was playing with his fingers. "But he's not really my type. I would say he's more a good friend than a boyfriend or anything like that."
He shoots his head up. "Really?"
I nod. "Yeah, this party just made us both realize that we don't like each other like that. We're better off as friends."
Shoot.
I just got my cover blown, didn't I?
"That's nice," he pauses. Silence falls upon us again. Why can't I say something? Anything?
"Are y-you enjoying your party? A lot of people showed up tonight." I awkwardly asked, my hand coming up to my nape.
He chuckles and shrugs. "What do you expect from a high school party? I'm sure more than half of the people in there don't even know who I am."
I laugh weakly. He mimics my action. Then silence.
Why am I here?
I let out a sigh as I feel a raging wave of confidence come over me.
Now's your chance. Ask him to dance with you.
I boldly turn my head to face him, my fists clenching to my sides. "Taehyung?"
He shoots his head up. "Yeah?"
"W-Would you l-like to go inside and d-dance?" I stutter, my face getting hotter and hotter by the second.
His eyes go wide. "Dance?"
I nod my head vigorously. "Yeah! I mean, we're not really doing anything out here. Why not go dance inside? We can shake this awkward tension away."
Taehyung smiles and nods. "Alright, let's do it." He stands up, gesturing me to follow him.
We make our way inside and to the room where everyone was dancing. He grabs my hand and pulls me in the sea of people.
Sparks shoot up through my arm. I bite my lip to contain a smile.
Perfect.
And so we start to dance. We start laughing together and cracking jokes here and there, all previous tension gone within a blink of an eye.
As we continued to dance, I unknowingly wrapped my arms around his neck, still swaying my hips to the music.
I feel his hands grip my waist, immediately jolting me out of my trance. I look up at Taehyung who was already looking at me, an intense gaze in his eyes.
What is happening right now?
The music around us began to blur. I wanted to look away, I felt my cheeks burn. This felt surreal. But something was pulling me in.
"You look really good tonight." Was all he said before leaning down and connecting his lips with mine.
My eyes widened as soon as his lips were on mine.
Alarms started ringing in my head. Kiss him back, you fool! This is what you've been wanting!
But I couldn't. I was frozen.
He seemed to sense that I wasn't cooperating with him so he pulled me closer to him, squeezing my waist as if telling me to kiss him back.
So I did. Slowly.
I closed my eyes and began to kiss him back, my arms wrapping themselves tighter around his neck, bringing him closer to me, if that was any possible.
I was the first one to break apart, leaning my head back ever so slightly. I parted my lips and looked at him with wide eyes. He had his eyes closed and a small smile playing on his lips.
What?
But the thing that shocked me the most was what was behind.
I looked past Taehyung to see Jungkook standing five feet away from us. He had a crushed red solo cup in one hand, his face fuming with anger. His eyes seemed as if though they were red. His nostrils were flared and he had his hands clenched by his sides.
Taehyung turned around to see what I was gaping at. He turned around quickly and cupped my face in his hands, sending me a small smile. "Just ignore him."
. . . WHAT??
