《RotTMNT Oneshots and Headcanons》Speak Properly || Raph

"Kon'nichiwa!" You greeted just as you entered the lair but did a double take at the machines placed everywhere. Did Donnie suddenly take over the lair while you were gone? You also realized that the turtle you wanted to talk to was not wearing his red mask and instead wore a purple one. You realized all the brothers were!
"Ehh?" You let out, far too confused. You walked up to your crush, Raph, with the nervousness you had believed to wore out slowly building up. You tugged on his sleeve, interrupting his work. He looked at you annoyed which made you unsure, worried.
"Can I talk to you, Raph?" You asked quietly while looking anywhere but his eyes.
"Raph." He corrected making you look up at him confused, again. "You pronounced the 'R' as if it was an 'L' making it sound like 'Laph' or 'Laugh'. That's confusing."
"O-oh, I'm sorry. I try next time." You shifted uncomfortably from where you stood.
"It's 'I'll try next time.' or 'I will try next time." you forgot to put the will in your sentence making you sound improper. And you also butchered your r's again." You could feel the heat rushing to your face and you were almost quite sure you were red enough to compare to Raphael's red mask, which he wasn't even wearing at the moment.
"You never complained about my pronunciation before." You mumbled, messing with the lace of your dress. You wore his favorite dress on you for today in hopes that you could impress him a bit when you confess but everything feels too tight for you.
"Yeah, well, I was far too nice and I am trying to help you by telling you that your Japanese accent is making it hard to understand any word coming out of your mouth." He looked at you with a blank look as if he didn't care you were about to cry as if he didn't care about you. You had always apologized when you mispronounced something and he reassured you it was okay and that you were getting better. Raph was always patient with you and supportive. He never judged you and when he's confused, he tries to correct you kindly. Whoever he was now, he wasn't the same Raph you grew fond of.
You bit your lip and try to keep the tears at bay but you just couldn't do it. You were always made fun of for your accent and while others think it was cute, they still laugh and repeatedly correct you like your some idiot who didn't know. They repeat the word you mispronounced and mock you whether it was good intentions or not, it hurt you every single time. You were glad the turtles were patient with you since they do have a father with a similar accent to yours, yours was just heavier.

You grew up in Japan with an American father and a Japanese mother and while you all talk English, you all just went with Japanese more often than anything and so speaking English sounds odd for others who were good at speaking English. Moving to New York made things worse.
Some made fun of you for the way you dress. They asked what it was and you always happily answer that it was lolita fashion. Most people did enjoy it but some still think you were weird for wearing something so "vintage". You were proud of wearing your dresses but you learned to hate your accent when people mocked you for it.
You clenched your hands into tight fists as you start to hear the echos of the mockery people always did. Everything suddenly felt too enclosed and you needed to leave. And so you did, you ran away, out of the lair and ran to your family's apartment. You sobbed the whole way.
The three brothers looked at each other and shrugged. He was telling the truth, you were just too sensitive to take it. It wasn't his fault for that. They turned back and continued to work. While Donnie had just seen you run away with tears falling.
"Hey, Donnie."
"Yes, brother?"
"Do you know if (Y/N) went by? She's usually visiting at this time." Raph looked around for you and when he didn't see you, he gave his brother a questioning glance.
"Oh, (Y/N). Yeah, I saw her running and she seemed to have been crying after talking to you." Donnie answered while taking the container out of his hands. Raph looked at him confused. You were crying?
"Why was she crying?"
"I don't know," Donnie said, sweating a little and the snapping turtle noticed. His eyes narrowed at him and ignored the fact that the other two brothers were walking away.
"Donnie..." He growled out in warning.
"I really don't know why she was crying! It could possibly be because you corrected her in any sentence she said? I dunno." Raph looked confused, again. He usually doesn't do that, though. He was patient with you when you spoke. What made this so different? He tried to remember but it was all fuzzy. He walked out of the lab and started to leave the lair in hopes to find you. He knew he did something but he just didn't know exactly what he did.
Donnie mentioned that he could have corrected every sentence you said but the memories were fuzzy. He eventually remembered distinctly that he did correct you rather harshly. Everything was still a blur and he hated that he couldn't remember and when did he skip a day? He hopes you could tell him what happened because he feels guilty. He never wanted to hurt you.

You heard a light knock from your window and it made you pause. You let out a hiccup before you turned to look at your window. Your eyes widened when you realize that Raph was there in his regular gear with a guilty and confused look on his face. You face away and try to wipe the tears and snot away before you let out another hiccup. Taking a few deep breaths, the hiccups eventually faded away and knock on your came again.
You stood with your dress ruffling and you padded over. Unlocking the window, you pushed it opened and stepped aside for him to enter. You were lucky enough to have a large window that could fit him without leaving any scratches. He landed with a quiet thump and looked at you in concern.
"I'm so sorry but I-I don't really remember what happened." He said placing a hand behind his neck. You took another deep breath and look away.
"What do you remember then?" You said slowly trying to say the words without your accent but that was difficult. His nonexistent eyebrows furrowed in confusion, noticing the slowness of your words and the lack of accent.
"I remember correcting you. Harshly."
"Ah, so you remember all of it then." You wrapped your arms around yourself.
"No, (Y/N), I don't remember a lot. It was too fuzzy for me to remember. And even with what I know, I know I messed up and I'm sorry for hurting you like that." There was a pause.
"Did you mean it?" You said quietly while you moved one hand to mess with the red fabric. Raph noticed the dress and unintentionally blushed. He remembered stammering on his sentence that day to say that he really liked the dress. He focused on you again and he looked at you, waiting for you to elaborate. "Did you mean it when you said that my accent makes you confused?"
He sighed dropping his hand back down and looked at you. "I'll admit, it's sometimes confusing but I understand you a lot of the times we talked. Is that why you're trying to hide it right now?"
You nodded, looking down ashamed. You focused your attention on the fabric instead of Raph, you were afraid of what you were going to see. If it was the same blank look as before, you didn't know what you were going to do.
"(Y/N), I like your accent and I never hated it. Yeah, it's hard to understand sometimes but I know you're trying and I understand what you're saying more often than I am actually confused." He knelt down and placed a hand on each cheek to have you look at him. He gave you a smile that you admired, especially the tooth poking out. You had always found it adorable. "I like you the way you are."
Without thinking, you kissed him. He returned the kiss happily while moving his arms to wrap around your frame. Once you realized what you were doing, you pulled away abruptly with your face growing hot.
"Gomen'nasai!" You said while you try to cover your face in embarrassment. You couldn't believe you did that! "Watashi wa shibarakunoaida anata o suki ni narimashita, soshite watashi wa watashi ga nani o kangaete ita no ka wakarimasendeshita."
"Wait, what?" He blinked at you and you sighed. Now or never, right?
"I liked you for a while now and I didn't know what I was thinking." You translated for him. You looked away and you felt him give a light squeeze, trying to get your attention. You turn to look at him with your face still hot. You froze when he kissed your forehead before he looked at you with a toothy grin.
"I like you too, (N/N)." You still stood there frozen. He likes you too?!
You felt a growing grin on your face once you processed it and let out a squeal of happiness while pushing Raph out of balanced. You both landed on the floor with a loud thump making you blush harder. He only chuckled at you and you joined in.
"I forgive you by the way." You said after a while. You smiled down at him who returned it with his own.
"Date sometime this week?"
"Mhm!"
