《Broken (Jughead x reader)》Part 17

After Veronica had enough pictures, we left the school and Betty brought me home. All I had to do was go through my window and get in bed. Archie however, was less lucky. I lied there and listened to him get caught and told he couldn't go to Taste of Riverdale. I felt bad for him, it was the first time that his song was going to be performed and honestly, he deserved to hear it being played. But the wasn't my decision.

I don't really understand how dad thought he would keep Archie in the house if he wasn't there to make sure his son didn't sneak out. As to be expected, Archie pulled me out of the house with him around 9:00. We showed up at "Taste of Riverdale", but made sure to stay out of the crowd. In a loft above the party, we found Jughead sitting alone. Not bothering to question as to why Jughead was at his second social event of the week, I sat next to him and he put his arm around me.

"Hey." He said.

"Hey." I greeted, kissing him quickly. I wasn't really comfortable kissing him in front of Archie, but had we been alone, it would've been a hell of a lot more than a peck. I didn't know it, but Archie had a look of disgust on his face, so I was right to not letting the kiss last more than a second.

"Are you sure it was worth sneaking out for some locally-sourced munster?" Jug asks, turning to Archie.

"I helped write that song man." He told him as we all watched the Pussycats perform.

"Not bad. I'd love to stay, but I have to go shake down an evil adventure scout." Jughead says, standing up to leave without bothering to explain.

"See you."

Archie and I stayed sitting and looking down over the crowd. Jughead was right, the song was really good. Archie however, didn't seem to be focused on the song anymore and as I followed the direction he was looking in, I understood why. Dad was standing talking to Ms.Grundy. Of course, she wasn't stupid enough to let anything slip, but that didn't mean Archie wasn't nervous watching them talk. He had no reason to be, nothing happened.

The next day, we found out what they had discussed when we heard dad soundproofing the garage before we left for school.

"Dad, this is awesome. Thank you." Archie smiled.

"I met your music teacher last night. Yeah, Ms. Grundy? Whoa. They did not look like that in my day, son."

I had to turn around and pretend to look over at Betty's house to keep my smile hidden. Okay, so it wasn't really funny, but... yeah, to me it was funny.

When we got to school, Veronica found me and told me about what had happened with her, Chuck and Betty the night before.

"I've only known Betty for a little while, so I wanted to ask if she's done anything like that before." Veronica said, with a worried look on her face.

"No... no she hasn't." I said. That was strange. Betty had never done anything remotely crazy. She had always been the good girl and I wasn't sure if this meant she just didn't want to be that way anymore, or if she was really struggling. When Veronica tried to confront Bets about what had happened, the blonde completely denied almost everything that had happened. This made me more worried about her, but as long as she denied it and didn't do something crazy, there wasn't much we could do.

Despite the mystery of what happened with Betty, some justice came out of all of it. Chuck and his little perverted possy were cut from the football team and suspended for a few weeks. After school, I was supposed to walk home with Betty, but she had a stop to make first. We met Cheryl behind some bleachers, where Betty tossed the shame book into a bin. Cheryl set the book on fire and the three of us watched it turn to ash.

"Whoever killed Jason hurt him. Maybe Jason hurt people too. If he hurt Polly, I'm sorry." Cheryl said. She looked upset, which no one could blame her for. Especially me. I couldn't imagine losing Archie. I refused to think about what would happen and how I would feel if I found his name in a book like this after he was gone. Cheryl felt like she didn't know her brother and I knew that that had to be one of the worst feelings ever.

I pulled my mind away from those thoughts and focused on the beautiful flames dancing in front of us. I felt a sense of relief know that my name was being burned away, along with Polly's and Veronica's. We were no longer a part of this.

That night, Jughead showed up in the middle of the night for the first time since school had started. As soon as I heard the tapping on my window, I got up and let him in.

"Hey there Juliet." He said, making me giggle as he climbed into my room. (A/N: I'm sorry, but I couldn't resist putting that in. I love that line way too much.)

I pulled him in for a hug a kiss that turned into more than one kiss and him picking me up off the floor. Damn, he was stronger than I thought he was. Or I was lighter than I thought I was. He walked over and fell backwards onto the bed, making me bounce off of him.

"Why are you here?" I ask, rolling onto my side. He looks over at me.

"Do you not want me here?"

"No, of course I want you here. I'm just wondering why you're here tonight when you haven't been for a while." I said, quietly.

He takes a deep breath. "I think Archie might be in trouble."

"What?" I sat up a bit.

"You remember how Archie said he heard a gunshot?"

"Yeah."

"I did some looking around-"

"Awww is Juggie playing detective? I tease him.

"No, I'm doing what the actual police won't. Anyway, it turns out that Dilton Doiley was the one who fired the gun."

"What? Dilton Doiley, Riverdale's biggest nerd, shot a gun and lied about it?"

"He was afraid of being accused of having something to do with Jason and now he knows he'll be charged if this gets out, so don't tell anyone."

"Okay. What does this have to do with Archie?"

"I had Dilton come to Betty and I at the Blue and Gold. He said that if we kept the gunshot a secret, he would give us a better story. He told us that he saw Ms. Grundy's car at Sweetwater River that morning. Betty's interested in the story. Everyone knows Archie was there, if it gets out that Grundy was too, there could be hell to pay."
