I stood in an awkward and confused daze. Jack had just been carted off in front of my eyes and I had no clue what was going on. I suddenly felt a little sick to my stomach. They carried him away roughly, and he definitely had a busted lip.
Right as I was about to turn around and rush to Keigo's office, I bumped into someone.
"Oh my God (y/n) are you okay?"
I saw brown puppy dog eyes full of concern boring into me. High cheekbones and clear ebony skin.
"Yeah sorry... I'm fine Lucy. Thanks", I trailed off.
She was cupping my face and turning it side to side a little bit, I assume to check for bruises or something. After she was satisfied she gave me a hug.
"Ohhh I'm so glad you're okay. I heard screaming and then I saw you watching that man get dragged off-"
"Jack... yeah. By the way, do you know where Hawks is? I need to talk to him."
"Oh um... I don't think he's in right now. If I remember correctly, he's off on patrol. Sorry babe. Want me to take a message?"
I frowned. "No it's fine. Do you know when he'll be back?"
"I think his schedule set him up for a long day today, sorry."
"No it's fine. I guess I just don't know what to do now. I was working for Jack and now- uh- I'm not."
Shit there's no way that it was him. I have to... do what? Shit. I'll text Hawks...
No he's busy. Besides Jack is probably going to be okay later tonight. Fuck.
"You look stressed", Lucy Cooed, "What do you say to going out for lunch.?"
"It's only", I looked at the clock on the wall, "it's only-"
"Who cares? The sushi place that we went to last time should be open in about fifteen. Wanna go?"
"I- sure. Yeah thanks."
In that moment a million thoughts were going through my mind. Lucy walked us to her car and we drove off. I was listening but I wasn't at the same time. Honestly I was just there enough mentally to respond with blanket statements. That's pretty much it.
I mean... I was placed with him for a reason... if he wasn't suspicious, I wouldn't have been assigned to him.
"Babe. Calm down."
I looked up to see Lucy smiling sweetly at me. "You need to unclench your jaw and look at what you want. Don't even worry about it, I'll pay."
"I'm really sorry Lucy", I looked down at the table, "I just- that was so random and there are things in my head that aren't lining up."
"Want to talk about it?" She cocked her head.
I needed to tell someone to get my head straight. I knew that I still wasn't allowed to though. I stared hard at her for a moment, thinking about the softest way to say 'if I say anything about what I'm thinking about, there's a good chance I'll get into federal trouble'.

She laughed her musical laugh. "Don't worry about it- I get it. Just order and keep your jaw unclenched"
I once again loosened my jaw without realizing it had screwed itself back tight.
"Thanks Lucy. I really appreciate this."
She nodded just as our server came up to the table.
"Are you guys ready to order", questioned a tall purple haired teen.
We gave him our orders as he jostled them down on a little notebook tiredly. He walked off and I watched his fluffy hair disappear into the kitchen.
"Do you think his quirk is no sleep?" Lucy giggled. "Poor baby, he would get some concealer... maybe some sleep.
I chuckled along with her as she began casual conversation. And with sushi for breakfast/lunch she drove us back to the building.
"Honestly, I don't see why you should be at work if your manager is gone. Why don't you head on home and I'll tell them about the sushi you had. I'm really sorry that it got you so sick", she hummed with a playful glint in her eyes.
I smiled. "Oh- god your right. My stomach- ouch... I should get home before- you know-"
Lucy feigned concern dramatically. "Oh you poor thing. Run home before it gets worse."
When we got to the building she gave me a quick goodbye hug and walked into the building. I looked for my car and hopped in.
With that I went back home. I was only at work for two or three hours but there was enough stress to last at least a day and a half. When I got home, I changed back into my pajamas and sat in my bed.
What do I do about this? I should text Keigo...
Hey... so uh... Jack got arrested today? Do you mind coming over when your done working? There's a lot going on in my head.
I smiled.
No it should be all good. You should bring your PJs though. And clothes for tomorrow.
I put my phone down and sat where I was. I don't know when exactly, but I had fell asleep. I only know this because I had woken up in a cold sweat, breathing fast with adrenaline sweeping through my body.
I looked at my hands panicked then got up to look in the mirror. I looked paler than usual and a little shaken but I was fine.
I'm fine. I'm fine...
Creeping thoughts of the guy who had tried to assault me had shaken me awake. I forgot that that happened and I just had a nightmare about it. But in the nightmare, when I fought back, the blood didn't stop dripping from his nose or his ear. There was blood everywhere and the club was empty in the blink of an eye. You could hear the empty echos of the struggle and the blood gushing and dripping to the floor. He had dragged me to the back and in the dream, I couldn't stop my body from going limp.
I furiously rubbed my nose, then my ears, trying to wipe off this bad feeling and once again checking myself for blood in my sleep deprived haze.

"No it's fine I'm fine-"
I heard the sliding door open and heavy footsteps.
Fuck what if he's here
No don't be stupid it's Keigo. He literally texted he's coming over you invited him.
The footsteps got closer.
Okay but what if it's not? How are you going to defend yourself? I mean it totally is him but if he were someone else, could you defend yourself?
My body was acting in instinct now. I sat up fast and closed my door. I sat against the door and listened to my breath.
A feather slipped through the underside of the door and caressed my cheek.
"Are you okay in there kiddo?"
It was Keigo's soft voice.
All of a sudden it crashed onto me what I was doing. Embarrassment squeezed my chest as I struggled to respond.
Keigo's voice was soft and soothing as he hummed through the door.
"Can I come in? I could hold you? Or if that makes you uncomfortable we could hold hands..? Maybe just eat? I have a surprise..."
My body was frozen in place, slumped at the door. My mind was fuzzy and I couldn't quite grip what was happening. I heard sliding down the door, almost like he was sitting with his back against the door too.
"Let me in? I have chicken nuggets. I don't know which condiments you like so I have honey, ketchup, mustard, hot-"
I started laughing softly and I got up stiffly. I heard a quick jostle like he just bolted to standing position. I opened the door sheepishly. He smiled and nodded to the living room. I looked down with a smile sticking to my face and we made our way to the couch.
I looked in the kitchen and there were at least 15 boxes of chicken nuggets.
"Keigo... why are there so many?"
"I don't know what you mean..."
Though I was still a little shaken up and I didn't feel like I had regained all of myself yet, I chuckled a bit.
"No no no no no because hear me out... chicken nuggets are really good- and now we have a lot of them. I don't see the issue", he said, standing facing the coffee table with his arms crossed like he was figuring out something serious.
"I- hah- yeah you're right. My bad."
I plopped on the couch and he gently sat next to me, obviously keeping up with how I reacted to things. He smiled and watched me nibble on the food. We turned on the tv and I got pretty into the movie. I felt the weight of Hawks shift next to me and then a kiss on the cheek.
The scruff on his chin prickled a bit but I smiled softly and kept eating.
"Oh- by the way- what was that text about?"
"Text- oh yeah!"
I remembered the way Jack was dragged out of the room roughly and cringed a bit at the thought.
"What did Jack get arrested for?"
Hawks frowned "Well, working against me in my company. Remember?"
"No I get that but... like- I remember submitting something that said he should be cleared because I never found one thing on him."
Hawks nodded. "Well- we noted that but you had seemed to get close with him in more than a work level so your statement was taken with a grain of salt."
"What do you mean?"
"Well he sent you a sandwich and a note when you got out of the hospital, and you guys... I don't know... went shopping with his niece-"
"For his niece-"
"Ah... see what I mean though?"
I frowned. "I've been reliable throughout this whole thing though. If I spy for you, why keep spying for you if there's so much doubt in my position?"
He shrugged, "It wasn't really my call. Some of my higher ups wanted me to fire you or at the very least, get you a different job in the company because they thought that you two got too close. They were scared that if he was working against me, that you started to follow him because he won you over."
"Isn't my job supposed to make people thing I'm being convinced to work against you?"
He picked up another nugget and ate it. "I didn't say they were too smart. They're not dumb but they are cowards."
I nodded. "Well, what evidence did you get against him?"
"Classified."
I frowned. I mean makes sense but help me out here.
"Okay but you didn't get anything from my reports... did you have other people follow him?"
This time it was his turn to frown. "What do you mean, your papers were the most compelling against him."
"They weren't though. I never saw him do anything shady. He's a sweet guy."
"I'm going to ignore that last comment," he stuffed more nuggets in his mouth and I chuckled a bit, "But we've read over the papers and he did something weird, like, every other day."
"So you can't tell me anything that other people gathered-"
"Correct."
I nodded, "Okay well can you tell me anything about my forms?"
He looked confused, "I mean sure, but why? You wrote it. I can't tell you what the rest of the team thought but I can give you my feedback."
"Because I'm really starting to think that either your team is just looking to put somebody down for the thing- don't give me that look you know better than anyone that the government is secretive and weird- or... maybe my papers are being messed with. I don't know though, you could just be right and I don't see it... I would though."
"Tell you what, well finish this movie, sleep, and tomorrow I'll fly you in- by the way you have work off till I figure out where to put you- and we can take a look. Sound good?"
I snuggled into him and stole a nugget from the box he was eating from. "Yeah. Sounds good"

Sector 27
It wasn't until June 3, 2101 that World War 4 ended. This was not a war that ended in peace treaties or truces; this war ended with disease. The atomic war caused plague and disease that crippled major countries. The generals and great leaders of the countries at war died from the radiation that penetrated every part of the globe. It was only then that humanity realized what they had done- what they had created. The first ever mutant was publicly executed the very day the war ended, and a new war began: the war against mutants. The surviving nation of Japan quickly rebuilt their country by dividing it into safe zones, or Sectors. There are currently 26 livable sectors in Japan; Sector 1 is the richest sector and the only sector that has completely rid itself of all radiation left over from the war. In fear against the threat of mutants, the once small section of the police force grew until it became the main police force in Japan. After all, humans shouldn't be blamed for crimes when the real threat to society is mutants. This police force that goes by their motto: Special Treatment Against Mutants (STAM) is comprised of agents that go about their work to capture and detain all mutants. Sector 26 is the poorest sector that humans can barely survive in; but there is one more part of Japan. This "dead zone" has such a high concentration of radiation that if a human were to step inside the barrier, they would die in mere moments. But within this dead zone, this 27th Sector, there lies a secret organization of mutants that fight against STAM and protect all mutants from their grasp. The Mutant Recovery and Protection Agency (MRPA) operates to hide mutants in society and allow them to live human lives. The only thing that stands in MRPA's way is STAM and its agents who hunt them down ruthlessly, so MRPA has their own set of skilled agents. And the battle rages on...
