《Two Existentialists | S.R.》55

You walked into the offiice, your hand intertwined with Spencer. "Garcia, I need your expertise."
"Anything for you, my genius princess."
"A girl named Miranda Morrison. She would be enrolled at Georgetown possibly. She's in Spencer's class, also might be in the FBI training program."
"Ah yes. Miranda Moore, 22-year-old. Graduated high school at 17 which makes her a year ahead. Applied to the FBI internship program. Why am I looking her up?"
"Because she's working with James," Spencer interjected. "Could you send this to the round-table room? I want to explain our theory to everyone."
"Of course 187. Let's go," Garcia said, standing up and marching out of the room. You followed her heel clicks, Spencer not far behind you.
"Oh look, it's the genius couple," Rossi said with a smile. You rolled you eyes jokingly.
"What brings you two in? Don't you have your class today Reid?" Aaron asked, looking up from the file.
"Y/N and I think we figured something out. But we didn't want to say anything until we got here, just in case."
"We think Miranda Moore is working with James. She talked to me during class and mentioned something about a girl I knew who was supposed to be in the FBI program. I think it was so we would become suspicious of her," you explained.
"But why do that?" Morgan asked.
"To throw us off her trail?" Spencer postulated. "But, after class, she approached me to ask about distinctions between female and male stalkers."
"It's almost like she's inserting herself into the investigation," JJ commented.
"And she followed me and Spencer to his office. So we had to talk in code. But, I think we threw her off our scent."
"Yeah, I think if Y/N's brilliant plan worked, she or James are currently on their way to Providence, thinking we're going to Y/N's parents."
"Code? Plan? How do you two come up with these so fast?" Morgan asked, shaking his head.
"I don't know, honestly. Y/N just started it and I picked up on it. She said late to family dinner, which is the excuse I used to get out of our first interaction with James. We watched Harry Potter that weekend, but she mentioned Batman, aka Garcia's office, and King Arthur, which had a round table, much like our office," Spencer said excitedly.
You smiled. "And Spencer asked to hold my hand. Twenty minutes before that, Miranda had touched his hand, so that was his way of confirming my suspicions about her," you added. Everyone looked between the two of you in awe.

"It's because they're soulmates Morgan. You'll understand one day, hopefully," Rossi said, breaking the silence. Morgan rolled his eyes at the comment, eliciting a chorus of laughs from everyone in the room.
"We need something incriminating on them in order to formally arrest them," Hotch muttered, making everyone turn and look at him.
"If they're headed to Providence, let's make them think they're ahead of us." JJ said.
"How so?" Spencer asked.
"We fly you guys to Y/N's house. We have undercover agents planted throughout the neighborhood and maybe even one or two in the house as guests of your parents. James and Miranda won't be able to resist messing with Y/N. So, we wait until they try and catch them redhanded."
You nodded, agreeing with the plan. Spencer, on the other hand, did not. "JJ, I don't know. That sounds dangerous. Y/N is still a civilian. So are her parents."
"I know Spence. But, you'll be with her. Well have agents inside. And, without actually seeing her, there's no way James or Miranda do anything."
"Spence, she's right. It'll be fine. I won't leave your side. Not even for a second."
Spencer frowned but nodded defeatedly. "One condition, her parents are not there. No point risking them," he muttered.
"Alright, I'll have Prentiss drive you home so you can grab some things. The flight is only an hour and some minutes so we should land in providence with plenty of time to spare, even if James or Miranda flew. Wheels up in 30."
"Neither purchased any airline tickets so I'm assuming they're going by road. It's harder to track that way," Garcia said, piping in.

An hour later you were on the jet, Spencer's fingers tracing patterns on your thigh absentmindedly as he spoke to Morgan and Hotch. He wasn't aware of his hand slowly moving upwards, making you shift in your seat. He turned and look at you in confusion. You shook your head, resting it on his shoulder as the plane took off. His hand remained on your thigh, squeezing it as he placed a kiss on top of your head. "It'll be ok pretty girl."
You landed in Providence an hour and some minutes later, hatching a plan of attack. You and Spencer, along with Hotch and Emily, would be at 'family dinner'. Morgan would be watching from Nate's house and JJ would be on a run. Rossi would be in the van with Penelope, working on surveillance.

You expected Miranda to somehow try to drug your dinner. However, JJ caught her as she tried to climb into your house through one of the sunroom windows.
James, on the other hand, was a no-show. "How do we incriminate him?" Morgan asked as you huddled in your childhood living room.
"I have a plan but Spence won't like it," you said, making Spencer frown. A few minutes later, you stood up and stalked out of the house. "Get out," you yelled. "I want all of you out."
"Baby, calm down. They're just trying to help," Spencer said gently.
"You all think I'm insane! I'm not! I'm perfectly sane. GET OUT OF MY HOUSE."
Everyone looked at you and nodded, walking out and getting into the cars, all of them but one driving away. "Y/N, you need to calm down."
"I need to calm down? You put me in a facility because you thought I had schizophrenia. Just like you did to your mother. It's pathetic Spencer," you said, seeing his eyes shift. Too far, that was too far.
"Because I love you," he retaliated, his face falling.**
"You don't love me, Spencer. I'm an object to you. You always get jealous. About everything. I can't believe I ever loved you."
"Well, maybe if you stopped being such a whore and flirting with everyone. But no, you need the male gaze to exist. That's what I consider pathetic."
You frowned, crying at his words. "I wish I had never met you, you piece of garbage. Here, keep the ring, I wouldn't want to marry you anyway," you shrieked, throwing the ring at him.
He frowned, picking it up from the grass. "I didn't need you anyway. Thank the universe that we didn't get married," he yelled, walking away and getting into the suburban. You watched him drive away before collapsing onto your knees, sobbing.
You stayed in the yard like that for the next twenty minutes. You looked up at the sound of a car door closing, your eyes meeting those of James. "Y/N, what's wrong?"
"James! Spencer and I are over. I can't believe it. He was my everything," you said, sobbing again.
James sat down and pulled you into a hug. "I'm sorry. But, now, you can be with a man who actually deserves you."
You looked at him and nodded. "James, I need to know, did you play a part in any of my psychosis this last week?"
"No, I didn't."
"Promise? Because I need honesty," you said, snuggling into his arms, hiding the nausea you felt.
"I had no part in any of it."
"But why would Miranda do anything to me? She's never met me before today," you whispered.
"She probably wanted Spencer. So she did what she did."
You stood up, inviting James inside. "I can't believe she used infertility drugs," you complained
James stopped in front of your stairs. "She wasn't supposed to use those. She was just supposed to use hallucinogenics. I told her to make you think you were losing your mind, not make you infertile," he muttered, making you smirk.
"Gotcha," you said with a smile as Derek burst through the door and grabbed James.
As he shoved James through your front door, you stopped him. "Why did you try to hurt me if you claim to love me? Not only with Miranda but also Susan?" you asked, crossing your arms.
"I didn't want to hurt you. I never planned to hurt you. I heard about your miscarriage after Susan. I'm sorry I contributed to that. But I'm not sorry that you didn't have a child with that sorry excuse for a man."
"Don't you dare insult him. He's 10 times the man you will ever be," you said defiantly.
"You deserve to be with someone that knows your worth. Not a pipe cleaner with eyes."
You shook your head, stepping closer to James. "Spencer is the best thing in my life. I'm going to marry him. I'm going to have kids with him. We're going to grow old together. But you'll be in jail the entire time."
James grimaced as Morgan pulled him away from you and pushed him into the car. Spencer approached you, gently placing a hand on your shoulder. You smiled, leaning into his arms. "What did you say to him?"
"Nothing. Just that you are my happy ending."
Spencer had a goofy smile on his face, shaking his head gently. "I can't wait to marry you," he muttered, sliding the ring back onto your finger. You looked down at it and sighed, closing your eyes and pretending like it was just Spencer and you in the world.

Luck And Chronomancy
Time Magic is the best magic as everyone knows, although there are lots of unique Talents in the world. Most people only remember Haste because it is hard to get to higher Phases of Chronomancy. That is still enough to make the Talent iconic. A lucky enough Aleatory Talent can position you for greatness or leave you languishing in obscurity. The only true equality in the world is when that glowing message pops up at 8 years old. Even if it doesn't activate until you are an adult at 16 you still know. Sure you can find a new dungeon spawn and get another chance at a rare Talent, even this one, but you have to already be ready to delve into the *Far Wilds*, which is far easier with wealth or family power. This is the story of where my good fortune took me and the difference it made, even among a party of 7 others including an Arcanist. It is a journey of magic and monsters but also math, which some think is actually worse. Luckily I was born with Intelligence and Focus as my personal traits, and my parents were scholars. Of course Chronomancy can also be a frontline combat talent. Versitility well beyond other Elder Talents like Gravity, Abstraction, or Arcana. Might could have worked for me, too. I also met a runaway princess. All the best adventures have a princess. She hated being a noble and we didn't get married but it still counts. Besides she really filled out our front line. All that Leadership training came in handy. I still don't know where she's from. Who cares? How well Haste goes with giant hammers is what's important. I never learned much about anyone in the party, except the one I grew up with. I'm not a people person. I just wanted to optimize dungeon clearing time. *******Story Details******* No romance, politics, or traumatizing content, slice of life, or even dialogue. 1st person narration, like a guide/adventure log. 2000-7000 words a day, maybe 40-60% rpgish combat log with some reasoning on combat decisions, with the rest character Talent discussion and progression stuff. 8 person party with a decent variety in roles. Party members usually have 2 primary functions. Told from the support/control Chronomancer's perspective. Each party member will have 6 Basic/Background Traits, then 3 actual Talents with abilities. Capstone from their Educational Institution, Arbritrary as a gift from the temples, and Aleatory which is decided at birth, revealed at 8, and activated after adulthood at 16. Aleatory Traits ignore requirements and are random why is why they are so important. They'll gain new Talents from finding Dungeons to consume in the *Wilds*. Mature dungeons in cities can provide *Challenges* to raise the Phase of a Talent, up to 3 times from 1 to 4. Each character will get to roughly 8 non-Trait Talents. Attributes come exclusive from Talents, are required by Talents, and provide various effects as well. I designed about 220 Talents with abilities, 4 in each of 4 phases. "Traits" are just Attribute stuff. I'm not sure how many will be detailed in the story, more than 100 for sure. I used Talents because I want to be free of the legacy of tabletop. Half those rules are just because of the limitations inherent in a pre-computer ttrpg. This story mostly uses combat Talents, although like 1/3 of the 220 are for crafting and other society and economy stuff. If you really wanted to be a Thief you might take Intuition, Awarness, and Might for Basic Traits and Deftness, Manipulation, and Trickery for Family/Education. Then you'd pick Acrobatics, and Climbing for Educational Capstone and Arbitrary traits. You Aleatory Trait might be Shadow(Light/Dark) Magic, Umbramancy. A Bard might swap Dexterity for Charisma, Music for Acrobatics, and have gotten Illusion(Shadow/Sound(Air/Force)) for their Aleatory Trait.
