Marcus was working hard on the local trains. He was delayed due to a goods train running late. He tried to make up for lost time, and arrived at a station outside of King's Cross. He looked at the opposite platform, and saw a very cross looking Caledonian engine.

"What time do you call this?" asked the engine. "I was delayed!!" said Marcus. "If this is what British Railways' work force, then no wonder it's like it is today." Marcus was furious!!! He looked at the name plate on the engines' smokebox, and said, "Well, I know that there's only one Scottish engine around here called Donald!" "Come on Marcus," said his driver, "We got to keep to time." "Marcus, huh, I'll be sure to remember that." Donald then steamed off in a bad temper.

The next day, Morgan was pulling a goods train, and saw a Caledonian engine on the opposite platform. "Still not well on your time keeping skills, aye Marcus?" "I'm not Marcus, I'm Morgan! Anyway, you must be that Donald." "I'm not Donald, I'm Douglas!!" The two engines looked at each other, until the parted ways.

Later, Marcus sat in a sighting, right next to Douglas. The two engines eyed each other, not knowing who was who. Just then, Morgan and Donald came in, and parked right next to the other two engines. They all exchanged looks, and burst out laughing, "WE'RE TWINS!!" "What are two Caledonian engines doing here in London?" "We belong to the Fat Controller's Railway on the Island of Sodor," said Donald. "We escaped there since British Railways was gonna scrap us," said Douglas, "But it's surprising that it's them who borrowed us for a few days to get back on schedule!" The engines laughed. "I never thought we would meet North Western Engines," said Morgan. "You are very lucky to have a controller who favors steam over progress," said Marcus. "Indeed," said Douglas, "but you all are even luckier, you all are still working on the main land, and you're still in service." The engines talked, and talked, until Donald and Douglas had to go home.

That night the twins told them what Donald and Douglas had said to them. They were impressed. "Even to this day," said Harry, "The North Western Railway still uses steam, while the rest of the world, except here, has gone diesel and electric." "I wish all railways were like that," said Max. "I'm afraid that it can't be like that," said Bertram, "We all must get used to being the only steam engines here on Britain." The engines all were sad, but soon thought to what the future might hold. And what it held, was a big surprise for the whole fleet.
