《Keeping Up With Cade》Chapter Sixteen: Did someone say dinner party?

Two days later and she was still annoyed with him.

For someone who agreed it would be a lot better if they kept whatever they were doing a secret...he sure was going about it the wrong way!

There were multiple times Hailey could have cottoned on, if it were anyone but Hailey they would have realised weeks ago what Blair and Cade had been doing. He certainly gave enough hints anyway.

'You've been staring at me with a sour face all week,' Cade commented as they found themselves in the kitchen together alone one afternoon. 'Don't get me wrong, I'm loving the silent treatment. Just wondering why.'

'You're such a douche,' she retorted back rolling her eyes. 'I'm staying away from you because I think we should stop having er...' She paused and glanced around the empty room, 'You know.'

'What?' he lifted his head up to stare at her amused. 'Having sex?'

Blair felt herself blush at his words, 'Yes, that. We need to stop it.'

'You know you say this to me at least once a week now,' Cade stood up and walked over to her confidently. 'And I've told you numerous times, I can stop it easily...' He paused right in front of her, his head lowering slightly enough she could feel his minty breath on her forehead. 'It's you who can't.'

Her response died on her lips as her eyes were drawn upwards to his, she was hating herself for leaning forward already anticipating the kiss before it happened. Who was she kidding? She wanted him.

Just before her lips touched his he stepped backwards chuckling, 'Told you. I'm out of here.'

Blair watched him leave the kitchen, hearing the front door open and close, again feeling quite humiliated. She was kicking herself for caving so easily. All he had to do was give her a cheeky grin and she practically melted into his arms! But she knew she had to be careful, she wasn't stupid. He was definitely playing with her.

'Blair? Hello?'

She heard Brady call her name from the front door and grabbed her bag heading out to meet him. She'd called Brady that morning and asked if he wanted to go for coffee to discuss her little situation. It was killing her not to confide in Hailey and Brady was all too willing to get the gossip.

'Ready babe?' He asked with a gleaming smile.

'I am so ready to get out of the house, Cade is doing my head in!'

They were barely out the door before she started ranting and Brady looked over at her in glee.

'Is this in between your rampant sex?' He asked innocently.

Blair felt herself blush and hit his arm lightly, 'Shut up, we haven't had sex in like three days.'

Brady's eyes bugged out of his head, 'Three days? That's not long at all! Are you saying you do it quite regularly?'

Blair nodded, 'Well kind of yeah... We have these huge fights, stupidly ridiculous ones though Brady. It usually starts with me calling him names when he makes a gross comment to me, then he teases me a bit and something makes me jump into his arms as soon as he gives me this look.' Blair paused trying to mimic the heated stare Cade has perfected so well.

Brady raised an eyebrow at her and Blair couldn't help laughing, she knew she looked like some kind of confused fish with her Cade-pout.

'Ok so it's not like that, but he has this look he gives me and it makes my whole body heat up...' She trailed off embarrassed. 'I can't help it. And I've never felt this way before.'

Brady smirked at her, 'My, my Blair he does have a hold over you doesn't he?' Then he frowned, 'I can't think why, I mean he's pretty hot. But it doesn't seem like you to like someone based on their looks.'

'I don't like him that's the point!' Blair explained sounding exasperated. 'We fight all the time, we squabble over the littlest things. He frustrates the hell out of me!'

She paused, not sure if she should confess everything to Brady. 'The other day when you said that Cade was sleeping with Lacy I was so angry. I saw red like you wouldn't believe. Just the idea that he was sleeping with me and then jumping into bed with her of all people, made me so mad.'

Brady giggled, 'Yeah, I mean I should have guessed what was going on by your reaction alone!'

Blair let a small smile pass her lips, 'I realize I'm pretty bad at keeping my emotions off my face. That's part of the reason why Cade has so much power over me, he knows exactly how I'm feeling, when I'm feeling it.'

'So let me take a guess at why you're freaking out right now,' Brady commented after they had ordered their coffees and sat down at a window seat. 'You don't like Cade in a romantic way, but you can't help feeling put out at the idea he's hooking up with other girls?'

Blair nodded, 'Yes, that's exactly right. I feel this way, but I cant justify the feeling at all.'

'I think you are overthinking this,' Brady shrugged at her. 'You guys are just having some fun, sure it's not exactly in your nature to do this type of thing B, but you can't deny your not enjoying it.'

Blair nodded thoughtfully, 'Yeah that's true.' She could feel her face heating up at the idea of just how much she'd been enjoying the last few weeks.

'Dirty mind,' Brady grinned. 'Penny for your thoughts?'

'Nope,' Blair laughed. 'No way... But if I were to tell you one thing about Cade in the bedroom it would...'

'About who in the bedroom?'

Blair's face drained of colour as she looked up to see Hailey standing next to their table. At that moment the waitress brought over their drinks and the three friends had an awkward silent moment waiting for the drinks to be put down and the waitress to disappear.

Blair couldn't mistake the hurt in Hailey's tone.

'What are you guys doing here together? I asked if you wanted to come into town with me earlier B and you said you were staying home?'

'I...uh...'

'That's my fault sweet,' Brady jumped in quickly saving the moment. 'I rang Blair and insisted she join me for coffee after the hellish morning I've had with Coach.'

'Oh,' Hailey said softly still eyeing the two friends with a little wariness.

'Yeah, come on and pull up a chair,' Blair jumped in sending a quick thank you to Brady telepathically. She couldn't keep lying to Hailey about all of this. She knew she needed to tell her if she planned to continue this thing with Cade.

'No that's ok, Mum just called me. She wants me to pick up some things for dinner because they've extended their trip,' Hailey said casually although still looking a bit confused. 'Apparently I have to cook us dinner because Mum knows we've been eating crap for the last few nights.'

Blair laughed, 'Jane knows us too well.'

'Why don't you come over for dinner Brady?' Hailey asked smiling at him. 'We can have a dinner party?'

Brady smirked, 'A dinner party? Why how Stepford Wives of you Hails.'

She rolled her eyes at him, 'Shut up, I'll invite Jacob too. Brady why don't you bring that guy your banging...'

Brady's mouth dropped open and Blair squealed in surprise, 'What?'

Now it was Hailey's turn to smirk, 'Like I haven't noticed you always disappearing, texting someone and looking deliriously happy lately?'

Blair frowned, she was happy for Brady but she felt like the worlds worst friend. All she had done was go on about Cade for the last week and hadn't even thought to ask Brady about his love life.

'You're imagining it,' Brady folded his arms across his chest as if daring the girls to challenge him.

Hailey winked at Blair, 'Sure we are. Anyway if you want to bring along a friend tonight we'd love to meet them. Maybe I'll even see if Cade is feeling semi-social tonight and might want to join us.'

'I don't think so,' Blair replied quickly.

Hailey and Brady stared over at her.

'I mean, I doubt he'd want to.'

Brady stifled a smile, 'Tell you what, if Cade and Jacob are going tonight, I'll come along too. And bring Wes.'

'Wes?' Hailey squealed delighted. 'I don't recognise that name, what school does he go to?'

'Well you can ask him that over dinner,' Brady shrugged although his cheeks tinging the slightest shade of red gave him away.

'Well I'll make sure the boys will be there, you call Wes and give him our address,' Hailey nodded firmly. 'Hurry up and finish your drink B, we've got a dinner to make.'

Blair sighed and stood up heavily not even bothering to finish her drink. The idea of spending an evening with two other couples and Cade didn't really scream fun to her. In fact the idea kind of scared her. At least she was fairly sure Cade wouldn't be interested at all.

The two girls left Brady in the coffee shop and crossed the street to the supermarket. Hailey was babbling alongside her about recipes and canapés but Blair wasn't really paying attention.

'Oh goodie, Cade is in.'

Blair's head snapped up, 'What did you say?'

'Cade is coming tonight, isn't that great?' Hailey smiled putting her phone back in her bag.

'Why would that be great?' Blair asked wildly confused.

Hailey shot her a weird look as she picked up a basket, 'Because now Brady will bring his new boyfriend... Why else would we care about Cade?'
