《Fast Cars Are All You Need》The Trial

One week later.
“Let’s go bitch.” The office Bob said looking at me in disgust. I had ended up punching him in the face yesterday so he didn’t like me very much. I had been having a bad dream and he walked into my cell waking me up, before I could remember where I was or what was going on I had punched him in the face, and busted his lip open.
“I said I was sorry.” I said getting up, and walking over to the cell door to be placed in cuffs again.
“Whatever.” He said putting me in cuffs and then opening the cell door. He lead me to the end of the hall, and then to the entrance of the tunnel that would lead me to my fate. The cop that had been at the garage was there. His name is Richard, and he seems like a good guy.
“Ready to get this over with?” he asked walking on my left side through the tunnel as Bob walked on my right.
“I guess so.” I said looking down at my feet as I thought of all the things that could possibly go wrong.
I walked into a court room that looked a lot like the one I had been in just weeks earlier. It was strange thinking it had only been a few week, it felt like years had passed. The biggest difference was that I now had people sitting out in the crowd of people for me. Dom and his entire crew sat in the benches. Hobbs, and Jen sat with him. Dom looked from me to Bob and raised an eyebrow at me. I shrugged my shoulder and watched as a smirk crossed his face, before it quickly disappeared so he didn’t somehow get me in trouble.
When I got to my seat, Bob pushed me down into it, causing pretty much everyone in the room to glare at him including his current partner. We sat there for a few minutes waiting for the judge. Five minutes passed before the judge showed up. The door to the right of the judge’s stand opened, and the secretary walked in. “All rise for Judge Walker.”
I stood up, until I heard the phrase please be seated. The jury was then led into the room and sat down. “We are on trial with Miss Amelia Moon, for the crime of killing Jared Marshal.” The judge said. “How does Miss Moon plead?” the judge asked, looking at my attorney.

“Amelia pleads guilty on the grounds of temporary insanity.” She said for the court.
“Is that how you wish to plead?” the judge asked me.
“Yes ma’am.” I said not moving.
“Are you being forced in any way to plead in this way?”
“No ma’am.”
“Have you been promised anything other than what is on record?”
“No ma’am.”
“Very good. The attorney for Jared Marshal has evidence it would now like to present for the court.” I continued to stare unmoving at the stain on the wall opposite me as the video was show of that night, but only the part where I had straddled Jared and bashed his head in with the socket wrench. “That video leaves little room for argument,” The judge said when they stopped the video. “But I understand you have more evidence to provide.”
“Yes ma’am.” The attorney for Jared said pulling out the socket wrench and setting it in front of the jury. “This is the weapon Miss Moon used to murder Jared Marshal on the night of July, 7th.”
“Do you recognize this weapon Miss Moon?” the judge asked as an officer brought it over to me.
“Yes Ma’am.” I said glancing briefly at the wrench in the officer’s hand.
“When was the last time you seen this item?”
“When I handed it over to the officer on the scene.”
“Anything else?” the judge asked Jared’s attorney.
“That will be all.”
“What do you have to say in your client’s defense?” The judge asked turning to my attorney.
“First I would like to ask for you to show the entire video to the jury.” My attorney said. Silence reign through the courtroom when the video ended until the judge spoke up.
“Well that certainly tells a bit of a different story.” The judge said looking back to my attorney. “Anything else?”
“I would like you to ask my client about her history with Jared Marshal.” she stated.
“Very well, I’ll play along. Miss Moon what is your history with Jared Marshal?”
“He is my ex-boyfriend.” I answered and then said no more.
“Then why did you murder him?”
“He beat me and raped me. When he came to take me back I just snapped. I couldn’t go back to that.”

“Explain to the court exactly what happened between you two.” My attorney told me getting exasperated with my short answers.
I finally opened my mouth and explained in vivid detail every moment of what he did to me, and the things he had said. I continued to talk until there were no more words to say. “Is there anything else you would like to say to the court?” the judge asked.
“No ma’am.” I said.
“Miss Jones?” the judge asked looking at my attorney.
“That will be all.” She said looking back at the judge.
“The jury will now convene to discuss sentencing.” She said.
“All rise.” I heard and stood up. Once the door closed I was led back into the tunnel, and put in the cell there to wait.
About three hours passed before I was led back into the courtroom, and sat back in the same seat. We stood as the judge walked in and sat back down when told. “Has the jury reached a decision on the Moon case?” the judge asked.
“We have your honor.”
“How do you find Miss Moon?”
“We find her, guilty, by means of temporary insanity.”
“What are your recommendations for sentencing?”
“We agreed that with the background between the defendant and her victim, that she should not be sentenced as harshly as would normally be the case. The Jury recommends she go to classes for anger management, and a rape support group, as well as doing some community service.” The juror said before sitting back down in his seat.
There was silence through the courtroom for a moment as the judge waited for any outbursts, when none came she spoke. “Very well. Miss Amelia Moon, you are hereby sentenced to 300 hours of community service, and you must go through an approved anger management class. On top of that you must attend a support group for abuse and rape victims at least once a week for the next six months. Other fines and fees will be addressed by the finance department.” She said before slamming her gavel down on the desk in front of her. I could hear the crew start to laugh and hug each other once they heard my verdict, but I continued to sit perfectly still staring at the stain on the wall until the officers had me stand up so they could take me back to the jailhouse to release me.
One of the female officers led to the bathroom to change after they took off the handcuff, and I signed the needed paperwork. “You’re a free woman now.” She said as she led me to the door, and let me out.
“I guess I am.” I said not looking back at her as I walked away. As I walked out to the parking lot I was surrounded by my friends as they hugged me and said how glad they were that everything worked out. I looked over to where Dom stood watching, and then walked over to his car when I was finally released. I just wasn’t in the mood to celebrate everything felt slightly off, like my entire life had been turned on its axis.
“You ready to go home?” Dom asked opening the passenger door for me.
“Home?” I questioned and thought for a minute. “I like the sound of that.” I said looking up at him. He gave me a small smile and I got into the car.
He closed the door behind me before getting into the passenger seat and taking me back to his house. “I hope you don’t mind but we brought the stuff from your apartment here.” he said glancing over at me. “The landlord was going to put it out to the curb.”
“That’s fine. I spend more time here than there anyway.” We got out of the car and followed the others into the house. We walked into the kitchen, and Dom pulled me down into his lap at the table. Mia was digging around in the cupboard for a pan to make dinner in. I ended up falling asleep in Dom’s lap before she ever found the pan.
