《Bite or Howl》Chapter 5

I snuck up the castle stairs, passing by servants continuously asking me if I needed assistance. I shrugged then off politely, getting to my room as fast as I could. "My princess." Lupus stands at my door with his sleeves pulled up, glancing at his watch. I loved the way Lupus called me My princess. It's as if I held a special entitlement.
"Lupus, hi." I walk up to him and heave out a long breath. "You're 38 seconds late, princess." He grins. This boy needs to let go of this goddamn watch. Out of all the men I've met, (not that there's much) he is the only boy that's still in his golden years that take so much care into time. If I were a 20 year old boy with looks like Lupus, I'd be out on the streets, hitting on girls and getting laid every night. Facts.
"Oh Lupus. Let go of your watch just for one day." I push past him and walk into my room. "You've got 4 minutes to get changed. I'll bring you down to East Wing to get everything else done." He shuts the door behind me and I drop down onto my bed, and glance at my wardrobe.
Inside hung a long body-con dress. It was black all throughout and displayed beautiful jewels near the neck part. "Oh gosh." I whisper. "Felix really outdid himself." I got out of my rags and stepped into the dress.
I looked at my reflection in the mirror. It wasn't me. I felt so enclosed. Yet it looked beautiful.
The edges hug my waist, embracing the small curves of my body. My skin's color bounces off the dress, making me look as pale as Chase or Nick.
When I open the door, I see Lupus leaning against the wall, counting the seconds on his watch. He turns around when he sees me. He opens his mouth but then gapes at me for a second, lost for words. "Princess-" He starts. "Is there something wrong? Is it too much?" I quickly ask.
"No. Nothing's wrong. You look beautiful." He stutters. "I haven't seen you all dressed up in so long." He smiles at me and drapes his arm around my shoulder. "You look happy." He whispers. "I'm glad that you are. You know, I love you like a sister." He smiles. He wore this black jacket that made his hair color bounce off of it. His hair was a light brown but it was never his natural color. I know his wolf was a dark raven so I assume that was his natural color. "I know Lupus, thank you."
He steps back and smiles again, looking at my dress as I twirl around.
"Felix really went overboard, you think?" I comment, looking down at my dress.
He laughs and takes my hand, dragging me towards the door. "Yeah. Yeah he did."
I can hear the laughs and muffled blabbering downstairs. All the guests and important people are down in the hall with Felix. My hair is tied into a complicated twist. There are several laces form the side of my head, forming down into the centre into a plaited bun. The lower bits stay stray, laying loose. It feels so not me. But in a nice way.
I walk down the steps and into the hall. The loud talking and laughter dies down as I slowly enter the room. Small whispers can be heard from where I stand, but people still continue to speak as if I wouldn't notice. "She looks so much like her mother." "Haven't seen her in years." "I hear she died and got revived." Stupid people. "Ah! The talk of the town is here!" Felix gets up from his seats and walks towards me. "Hey, little sis." He whispers as he stands near me. His platinum blonde hair shines off of him. It's styled into separate strands, creating a wet and gel-like look to it. He looks so much like my father. Our father. "I'm glad you came." He says, kind of shocked, as if he had a feeling I wouldn't come. "Me too." I whisper.

Felix stands up from his seat, attracting a lot of attention in the room. I look up at him, questioning what he's about to do. The entire table turns their attention to him, stopping their conversations to see what the Alpha has to say. Sometimes I wish I was more ordinary. If I were luna, everyone's eyes would be on me, watching my every move and decision. He glances down at me and smiles. He picks up his glass and a knife, clinking them together to get everyone's attention. He clears his throat and starts to speak. "Could I please have everyone's attention?" He asks.
Lupus leans over me and picks up my glass. He sits up, impersonating Lix. He puts on a straight face and clears his throat, whispering, "Could I please have everyone's attention?" In a very posh and deep voice. He then takes his knife and clinks it but unlike Felix, he hits it rather hard. Oh god, this boy is the worst omega ever. The teeth of the knife meet the glass with a small crack, breaking it right in the centre. I would laugh but there's a hundred people looking at me right now. I hide my face in my hands and hold in my laughter as Lupus tries to clean up all the broken shards, apologising to the people on our table.
"So as you all know, today marks the 9th anniversary since my crowning of Alpha. It also marks the day I lost two people I loved." Felix starts. The room is eerily silent, letting the sound of Felix's muffled breathing fill it. A few people turn their chairs to face him and others look away, scavenging for tissues from their bag. "My parents died that day. It is one of the most important parts of me. We all lost something that day. Someone. Something. We lost our leader. Our Alpha."
"A part of me died, too. I lost that caring and loving part of me. I lost the label of being a brother." I look up and meet his eyes. So soft and teary, filled with such care. "I neglected that part of me, not knowing what happened. It was stressful and overwhelming, being a leader at such a young age. My father had so many expectations, I was scared I couldn't live up to them. So I did everything I could to do so, but as I did that, I left behind the most important thing I had left."
"It took me nine years to realise that. I was walking around the pack house, going down the levels that needed inspections. Of course I'd never done them before so it was awkward going somewhere you haven't been to in years. I passed by the room I used to steal small blueberry muffins from. I'd take them when the ladies with the weird hats went away so I could bring them down to my sister. I remembered all of that."
"I realised how much of a shitty brother I became. And I wanted to change that. I used to see the best in Phoebe when no one else did. I used to be her light when she was surrounded by darkness. But now I don't want that anymore. I want all of you to see her. To appreciate her as the beautiful, most independent woman in this clan. So Phoebe, would you please let me be that light again?" He pears down at me, holding his hand out. I sit there, prefixed to my chair. I must look like an idiot. I feel a small nudge from behind me. "Say something, my princess." Lupus whispers. I snap back into reality and take his hand, bringing me up to my feet.

"Yes. I would love that." And with that, his smile widens and he raises my hand into the air.
Lupus stands up and brings us to the centre of the room. Holding us together as he announces, "Ladies and Gentlemen, Phoebe and Felix. You're Alpha and his sister."
Everyone stands up in their chairs, clapping and applauding for us while some wipe off the tears in their eyes. And after a long time, I feel like I'm really part of a family again.
With Lupus. And Felix. And me.

"So what exactly is your plan?" I ask, approaching Chase. He's leaning his back against a large rock on the edge of the border, one leg is up, bent and the other lays straight and lazy. His hands fiddle with a few sticks on the ground as he bites his lower lip. His blue hair is styled messily and lazily, letting it fall down to his eyes. And to be honest, he's hot.
"Yay, you're here." He sighs, getting up from the ground. He wanders to where I stand, grinning at me like a dog seeing a fresh bone. "You look nice." He says. I look down at myself. I'm wearing a loose coat that hangs down to my coat. My tights are tucked into my black boots that make me atleast a foot taller than I should be. Underneath, it's simply just a loose top, hidden away in the layers of my wardrobe. "It's nothing." I reply, suddenly feeling so conscious about the way he's looking at me. "It's so, well, black and-" He scavenges for the words as he forms his sentence, losing focus. "It looks really good on you."
"Thanks I guess." I shift awkwardly. He moves closer towards me and closes the gap between us.
"Don't thank me, you're the most beautiful creature to ever step foot on this planet." He whispers. I look up at him and meet his dark blue eyes. I could swim in that ocean for years, just getting lost in them. They travel down my face, straying from my eyes as his hand grazes me elbow, pulling me closer towards him. "May I?" He whispers. I don't know exactly what he's doing but all I know is that I don't want him to stop. I slowly nod, as he bends down and brushes his lips against mine. His lips are soft and sweet yet hard at the same time with such force and hunger. My eyes shut closed as I slowly drowned at his touch. He pulls back and smiles down at me.
I lean close to his chest and his arms circle me. "Nicks just over there with a car so you don't faint." And with that, he runs at the speed of light as I shut my eyes, tighter than it should be, clinging onto his body. When he stopped, I opened my eyes to see Nick leaning against a black SUV. "You're so cute." I hear Chase mumble. The small gesture sends a flood of red warmness to my cheeks. "My Queen." Nick gestures, opening the door for me. "Not like that, idiot." Chase hits him on the shoulder and Nick smirks. "He told me to be nice." He whispers. "Thanks but, you don't have to be my servant." I tell him, bending down into the car. "Well, technically I am. It's my job to take care of all members of the royal family. But, just don't treat me like one." And he shuts the door and walks towards the front seat.
The windows in the car are all black, blocking my view of where we're going. The backseat is enclosed from everything else with one small window that opens when you need to speak to the driver. "Are you okay?" I feel Chase's palm graze my knee, leaning over the middle seat to me. I turn my head away from the window and look at him. "Yeah, I'm just thinking." I sigh. "There's a lot in your mind right now, what's bothering you, my love?" The way he calls me his love sends butterflies throughout my whole body, making me lose conscious of where I start or end.
"I don't know how I could be queen while I'm a werewolf. My tribe would hate me." I babble.
"I don't want to tear you away from who you are, you know that right?" I nod. "I was actually thinking of creating a bond between our trib-" But before he could finish, the car door opens and Nick steps into view. "Your highnesses, the witch's lair."
"What are we doing here?" I ask Chase, staying close to them. "Don't worry, they're nice. They don't bite." Nick responds. "We need to get some sort of potion to mask your scent." Chase replies, looking down at his phone. I hear him swearing under his breath, muttering things like, "Goddamnit."
Nick dragged me towards a small hut far away from the others. He opens the door with ease as if he's welcome here. "Sophie! Come out come out wherever you are!" He yells, shaking off his coat and dropping it on the ground. "I'm at the back!" A female voice yells from behind the wall. The house is very small, cramped with little items that mess it up. We walk through a small hallway, tracking back to the house. The place is magical. Dishes washing themselves, knitting sticks knitting, oven doors opening as the food flies out. When we got to the back, there was a short girl with wild hair standing over a big black pot. "Hey! Oh, who are you?" She approaches me, taking off her glasses.
"Sophie, this is Phoebe, our future queen." Chase says. "Phoebe! Wow what a wonderful name." She takes my hand in hers and rubs the palm of it. "We need that masking potion." Nick says.
Sophia looks at him and her face lights up. "Or right! I was working on it last night." She walks to the back of the hut and reaches up to a shelf., Her fingers rummage through them, flipping all the viles. "Masking, masking, masking, ah-ha!" She takes a vile and brings it to me.
"So this will mask your scent after sunset. Your appearance slightly changes too but it wears off when the sun comes back up. It should come back the next night too." She explains to me.
"Thank you." I say, taking the vile from her hands.
We went back to the car so we could go to the castle. "I hate that place." Chase mutters underneath his breath. I open my mouth to ask why but then I stop myself when a loud blaring sound comes from outside the car. It shackles the vehicle and catches our attention "What the hell?" I mutter. Then another loud bang comes, blaring into my ears. The sound is like a bomb going off, hitting every nerve in my body and making me ache. "What the fuck is going on out there?" Chase yells. He takes off his seatbelt and leans forward, opening the small window that connects us to where Nick is.
"Holy shit." I hear him mutter as soon as he opens it. I lean forward, following his gaze. All of the witch huts are completely destroyed. A bunch of people in black suits come running into their territory. I see a few walking towards Sophia who's crouched down on the ground, leaning against a retaining wall. Her mouth moves as she screams, her glasses clogging with smoke. The two guards look at each other before one pulls out his hand and shoots her. Right. There. I hold back a scream. "Get us out of here." Chase growls under his breath. Nick steps on the gas and drives the car at full speed. I get pushed back to the seat behind me. I thought I wouldn't see someone get killed again.
But I was wrong. Because little did I know, there was a whole lot more to come.
