《Van Helsing》For Me

Summary: Set in 1x7 "For Me." Vanessa's dying from the vampire mutation that bit her. Will she be okay?

A/N: Things have changed. Doc was bitten outside of the hospital, so she's out of the picture. The only survivor that was brought into the hospital was John. There's no such thing as the other survivors from the show.

Axel entered the lab, still debating on what to do. Vanessa wasn't in the best condition. He didn't want to give up the hospital, but knew he had to if they all wanted to live. He had John shooting vampires that got past the exploding boobie traps.

He approached Vanessa, as she began to get to her feet, using the table to stand up.

"How do you feel?" he needed to know.

"Weak. Like I'm human again," she replied. "What happens if they get in here?" she added, using a hand on the table to keep from collapsing. Her vision was starting to go gray, though.

"That's not going to happen," he told her. Then he put a hand on her arm, seeing that something was wrong. "Vanessa?"

As she collapsed, he caught her from hitting the lab floor. He then gently layed her down on the table, before resting a hand on the side of her face. He then stayed in that position, as he glanced at her leg bite wound. He could see that she wasn't healing. He knew from that that she needed help. He then grabbed some tweezers close by and used them to look for whatever might be in her leg bite wound.

As he was looking for what might be in her leg wound, John came in with an M4 in hand.

"What's the plan?" John inquired of him. "We can't hold them off forever."

"We're getting out of here. That's what we're going to do. I have a car in the garage as an escape route," Axel informed him.

"Then what are we waiting for? Let's go," John replied.

Axel finally found what was in her leg wound, so he pulled it out, revealing a small tooth.

"What's that?" John had to ask him.

"This is what's been keeping her from healing. I think it poisoned her. Shoot anything that gets up here. I'll get a bag together of what we need for Vanessa until she heals. You're going in the back with her. I need you to keep her alive," Axel instructed. He then set the tooth in a small round, glass scientific dish, before quickly grabbing a bunch of medical stuff for Vanessa. Then, when he'd grabbed everything, he gently picked her up, carrying her, as he headed for the door downstairs. Then, once he'd put in the code, John followed, opening the door for him, and they both headed down the stairs as quickly as possible.

"This is it?" John had to question, when he saw that all the vehicle was was an ambulance.

"It's been fortified to keep vampires out," Axel assured him. "Open the back."

John slung the strap from the M4 over his shoulder and quickly opened the back doors. Then, since there wasn't a bed inside of the back, Axel went inside and gently layed her down, before getting out, as John tossed the bag of weapons into the back. Then, once Axel had gotten out of the back and had tossed the bag of medical stuff into John's arms, Axel closed the back doors.

As Axel quickly but carefully drove the fortified ambulance out of the garage, heading down a road, John tried to do what he could for Vanessa. The problem was that Axel knew more medical knowledge than John did, considering all John knew about was wounds and putting an ivy in.

"How's it going back there?" Axel questioned.

"How am I supposed to know? You're the one that knows what you're doing," John replied.

"Alright. There's a road close by we can stop on. It should be safer for the time being there," Axel informed him.

When Axel had parked on a dirt road behind what appeared to be an apartment building, he got out and opened the back, getting in. He then closed the doors behind himself, setting his handgun down. She was pale from what he assumed to be the poison from the tooth he'd pulled out, but John had done a pretty good job with the ivy and her leg wound. He knew it would take some time for her to get better, though. He grabbed a breathing mask from the back of the ambulance, turning it on, and put it on her.

"Vanessa, can you hear me?" he called to her, but she didn't wake up. He then looked at John and told him, "Just keep driving. The keys are in the ignition. Go."

John did as he was told, getting out of the back, closing it, and getting into the driver's seat, starting to drive to who knew where. Neither of them knew where they were headed, but they knew they needed a safe place. That was, until Vanessa was back on her feet.

About a few days or so later, when Vanessa woke up, she felt like herself again. She noticed that she was in an ambulance, Axel in the back with her, but it felt like they weren't going anywhere.

Axel gave a smile, glad to see her finally awake and seeming to be okay.

"Hey," he greeted her.

"Hiya, soldier," she greeted back, before sitting up. "Where are we?"

"Nowhere in particular. We just had to get out of there. The vampires started getting into the hospital," he informed and answered her. "I'm just glad that you're okay."

"As am I," she answered.
