《new | jack grazer》twenty nine

We spent the rest of the night locked in Jack's room, talking and laughing and kissing. Thank god I'd put on chapstick. It was so crazy that after years of hiding how we really felt, we could just be ourselves again. When I finally fell asleep, it was almost 2am. My head was resting on Jack's chest, and his soft breathing helped relax me even more. Just as I had finally fallen asleep, Jack's phone woke me up. I didn't open my eyes, determined to go back to sleep.
"Hey! How'd it go?" I heard Finn say. Confused, I slightly cracked my eyes open. Jack was facetiming Finn, at 2am might I add. I rolled my eyes before shutting them and trying to fall back asleep.
"Dude, it went great. Look," Jack said, and I assumed he pointed the camera down to me.
"Woah. Congrats bro, I'm happy for you," Finn responded, and he actually sounded genuine.
"It's crazy, she told me she really liked me and I told her the same and boom, we're in love," he laughed. "You're ok with me talking about this to you, right? I know you guys actually really liked each other," Jack asked, concern in his voice. Finn laughed.
"No, you're totally fine. Yeah, she's a great girl, and I still think she's attractive, but what happened between us was completely my fault. We all know she was meant to be with you anyways," Finn reassured him.
"Thanks." They talked some more, and Jack filled him in on everything that had happened tonight. I finally decided to stop eavesdropping when they started discussing my kissing techniques, and concluded I actually did have to go to sleep.
I blinked awake, sunlight streaming through Jack's thin curtains. I expected Jack to still be asleep, because I always wake up before him, but when I glanced up at him he was already watching me.

"You were watching me sleep weren't you? You're such a creep," I laughed.
"Sorry. You're just so- yeah um- it's hard not to," he sighed. I giggled, leaning in and kissed his lips gently, pulling away before it could deepen any further.
"What's for breakfast?" he asked.
"First of all, we're at your house. Second, why are you always thinking about food?" I groaned, sitting up so we were eye level.
"Oh, right. Cereal it is," he grinned. He got out of bed and exited the room, returning five minutes later with two bowls of lucky charms.
"What time is it?" I asked once he handed me my bowl. He glanced at the clock on his nightstand.
"11:27. You don't have somewhere to be, do you?"
"No. I can probably stay here all day. If that's fine with you, of course," I added quickly. He smiled.
"Good, I want you to stay." He kissed my cheek, and I turned my head so our lips could connect.
"I'm so glad I finally told you how I feel," I grinned.
"Same. I was so scared you were gonna reject me," he laughed.
"Are you kidding? It was the other way around. Especially after your little meltdown at breakfast with the others," I replied. He rolled his eyes.
"I only did that because Finn was being a dickwad," he shrugged.
"Yeah, that was really confusing. And overhearing your conversatoin with F- uh, nevermind," I cut myself off. I totally forgot Jack had thought I was sleeping in the car with Finn.
"In the car? Oh, I knew you weren't sleeping, I'm not that stupid. I wanted you to hear, I could tell you were mad at how I reacted to Finn," he admitted. That made a lot more sense.

"Oh."
I spent the rest of the day at Jack's house, and finally decided to go home after dinner.
"I should get going," I sighed, sliding off Jack's bed and onto the wooden floor with a soft thud.
"Do you have to? It's only 12:30," he protested.
"Jack, we've been together for three days straight," I explained. He groaned.
"And? I still don't want you to leave," he whined.
"I obviously don't want to leave either, but we have school tomorrow," I reasoned.
"Please? Just 10 more minutes?" he begged.
"I'll see you tomorrow morning. Love you," I said, standing up and making my way to his door.
"Wait, you forgot something," he called after me.
"What?" I turned back around, and Jack got off his bed and approached me. He didn't stop until his face was inches from mine.
"This," he grinned, breaking the small distance between us and lightly pressing his lips against mine.
"You're impossible. Bye," I giggled after pulling away quickly. I knew if I had stayed for even a moment longer, I wouldn't be able to force myself to leave at all.
"Love you," he said, planting one last kiss on my cheek and finally letting me escape.
I drove home, giddy as ever. Once inside, I ran into my room and slammed the door shut, practically diving onto my bed and shoving my head into my pillow. I hadn't actually had alone time to process what had happened yesterday. Jack liked me. Jack actually liked me. I was still in disbelief that, after all this time, the thing I'd wanted the most was actually happening. I figured I should probably tell Ellie, since Jack had already told Finn. I pulled my phone out of my pocket, surprised to find three text from Jack waiting for me.

In The Tall Grass
Elizabeth Wilson commits suicide. She was the golden girl among her peers in Darkwood, Washington who stood above the pressure of her drug-ridden town. Explore the summer before her senior year that triggered the domino effect of Elizabeth's emotional and psychological breakdown that lead her to take her own life. This is the prequel to the main story, Petrichor and was never intended to be made. I wrote this because I wanted to explore Elizabeth's character and show how the main characters have changed since this event. I decided to release this first because Petrichor is undergoing a full rewrite. In the meantime, I'm writing a side story called Mourning Glory that takes place between the second and third act of Petrichor. Development is going rather fast so I suggest to to read that if you like this story
