《Son of Artemis Book 4》Chapter 14

So you know how Annabeth probably told you how Thalia and I tend to seek out or get into unnecessary fights. Well don't tell her I said this but she did the same with the Sphinx.
What happened was the Sphinx welcomed us to her game show and well...how do I put this...didn't ask any riddles. Which Thalia and I saw no problem with.
But as you can guess Annabeth did and she lashed out against the Sphinx on question 5 of 25. Which ironically enough got us all into a fight
Thalia and I held the Sphinx off with lightning. While Tyson unblocked the entrance throwing the barricade material at the Sphinx.
Nico...well he summoned some dead soldiers before getting to tired to do more.
Annabeth though...she...well she was cursing the Sphinx in as many languages and ways she could.
"THE PATH IS CLEAR AND BOT IS ON THE MOVE" Tyson shouted
Grover took the tired Nico and moved out ahead of us all while Annabeth followed and Thalia and I were in a fighting retreat from the Sphinx.
The good news we all made it out and Tyson barricade the entrance once again but with fallen rubble.
"MY SCANTRON" I heard the Sphinx yell as the tunnel was closed off, "How will I grade them now"
"We need to get going the bot is on the run" Grover said, and we started chasing after them.
Now I don't know how long we were following the robot but the tunnel diverged into two paths and one was incredibly overgrown despite being underground. Though Grover stopped causing the rest of us to stop.
"Pan" Grover stated, "he that way. I know it" Grover stated
"We don't have time. We're going to loose the demon bot from hell" Annabeth said
"We split" Thalia suggested, "we need to find Pan and do this"
Annabeth thought for a moment, "fine"
"I'll go with goat boy" Tyson said, "keep him safe"

"Ok that's fine now go" Annabeth said
"Thalia go with them" I said just having a gut feeling. Though I don't know why.
She sighed heavily but chased after them, while I got an annoyed glared from Annabeth. "Come on lets go catch that demon bot" I said ignoring the glare running off hearing Nico chuckle.
Five minutes later we entered a small open area and low and behold there was a god petting the robot. I stopped as did the others.
"Well well" Hephaestus stated, "who do we have visiting us" though I think he was asking the robot
"Lord...lord Hephaestus" Annabeth stuttered
"Ahh if it isn't my niece and nephew...and boy I don't recognize" he said
"Do...do you think you can help us find Daedalus" Annabeth asked
"Well maybe" Hephaestus started, "but I can't lead you too him. His workshop changes frequently. Though I'll need something in exchange"
"What is it uncle" I asked
"Do you really" Nico was about to ask but I put my hand over his mouth
"Look Nico I know you love Mythomagic but please can you not try relating actual gods to the game" I asked
"Well Dionysius doesn't mind" Nico pouted
I swear this kid.
"Well if you all are done. One of my forges is being used without my permission. I'll lock up one day and come back to find a lot of things misplaced and things turned on that I knew I turned off. So, if you all can check it out as I haven't been able to capture the intruders, and maybe put an end to the intruding. It would be greatly appreciated" Hephaestus told us
"Sure lord Hephaestus. We'll check it out" Annabeth answered
"Thanks" Hephaestus said, then tinkered with the robot, "my little friend here shall lead the way" he said only for the robot to head off down a tunnel. "Once there he'll deactivate. Only have to reactivate him to get back here" Hephaestus shouted after us.

So, we made it to Hephaestus's forge...turns out it's inside a volcano. And I have no clue which volcano it is so don't ask.
Anyways, when we got here we immediately took notice of the dog-head sea demons. More commonly know as Telekhines. "Are those Telekhines" Nico asked, and I could tell he wanted to ask more but stopped
"Yes and please don't introduce yourself Nico" I asked as I as well as Annabeth took notice that they were forging something.
"I'm going to take a look around. See if I can see what they are forging" Annabeth whispered
"Take Nico. I'm going to see if I can find out anything else" I said and we split off. Though Nico was grumbling about being told what to do.
I made my way through the edges and eventually came up on what is some sort of classroom. They were teaching the young Telekhines about the past and whatever they currently do and how to forge. Bleh bleh boring I know but still useful since they taught why they don't side with Olympus, so I know that they are certainly enemies of Olympus.
However, despite my years of training. When I tired leaving my hiding spot some Telekhines just so happened to enter the classroom. And spot me leaving.
He raised the alarm only to get killed quickly by me slicing his head off with riptide. "GET THE DEMIGOD" the Telekhines teacher shouted, and I bolted out the door.
I was almost back to the labyrinth entrance when I ran into an invisible force... "Annabeth" I asked quickly
"Yeah" came her grunted response.
"Where's Nico" I asked as I helped her up
"At the entrance"
"Good let's go" I said quickly just as the class came out into the open and spotted me...well us.
"GET THE DEMIGOD SCUM" one of the larger Telekhines said pointing in our direction.
Annabeth and I made a run for the remaining distance to the labyrinth entrance, only to go under heavy fire from Lava balls. Luckily they missed Annabeth. Not so luckily I was hit in the back and it burned.
Note to self. Lava ouchie fire ok.
We made it to the entrance but the Telekhines were to close for us to enter as they would chase us the entire time there. "Go" I shouted, "I'll buy you all sometime. Tell Hephaestus what you learned"
"I am not leaving you Perseus" Annabeth said moving to stand by me
"Nico Take Annabeth back to Hephaestus for me please. She doesn't have the fire immunity for this"
Nico nodded glumly understanding what I'm going to do. I think. Annabeth however protested as Nico dragged her away. An impressive feat for the kid as Annabeth easily towered over his 4 foot something height.
I focused on the Telekhines in front of me and did what I was trained since I was practically four for...monster killing.
It went well at first...but then again it was mostly the students in the first wave of attackers. However it seems that the rest of the Telekhines in the mountain finally came to me. And well I was severely out number and in no position to get out of this...except one...and I hated it and it was a 99% chance of death. And if I lived another 99% chance of death by loved one.
I swung riptide one last time getting some distance between me and the remaining Telekhines before turning the blade downward and stabbing the ground on which I stood...channeling two powers. The power of the sea and the Earth Shaker...releasing a torrent of sea water and causing an earthquake in what is now an erupting volcano.
Next thing I know. I'm being shot up into the sky and out of the mountain as the volcano chamber released its pressure blowing the top of whatever mountain it was. And I was blasting off like a Minute Man Three missile.

Apollyon's Curse
Within the pages of folklore and fantasy, tales of people who chase after the dream of eternity, of living forever, rarely find a happy ending. They are either struck by the grim truth of reality, give up, and return to mortality or face a ghastly realization of their wishes. The latter often the worse fate, as they come to realize, only far too late, that what they sacrificed was worth far more than the time they gained. Ultimately, the common thread in these stories is that “immortality is as much a curse as it is a blessing”. People either realize it early and give up or are doomed to inevitably face its consequences. In the world Enrich lives in, that saying does hold merit. Every pathway towards eternal life has shackles of its own. They bring those high above down to the ground, evening the playing field. It is thanks to these fundamental laws that ambitious mortals are able to defy the heavens and achieve immortality themselves. The variety of methods result in each of these bindings varying in intensity and degree of freedom. Enrich’s path doesn't break this trend. Though, after what he did to himself, most wouldn’t even consider him a living thing anymore. On the day of his ascension, a world’s worth of souls were melted and recast. On that day, the human’s path had reached its conclusion, recast into Apollyon. An artifact, a weapon, is eternal, after all. As for the curse? The payment will be made, as it must. So why not offload the curse to someone else? Mortals throw their lives away for all manner of petty reasons, noble or otherwise, especially in desperation. Eventually, someone will be willing to foot the bill. Most will if given the chance. The bait is far too tempting, after all. Power, status, knowledge. All at their fingertips. If only they say “yes”. And Apollyon is very willing to help any lost souls. If they give up everything in return, of course.
