He watched as his wife was murdered in front of his eyes, he could hear the cries of his daughter, but he didn't have time to react. He screamed as burning wood fell on top of him, slightly burning his skin. He screamed until his lungs filled with smoke and he couldn't let out any noise.
He suddenly snapped awake and looked around the room, his throat burned and felt like he was swallowing sand. He looked in front of him and seen four, terrified faces. He could feel a wave of relief wash over him, giving the small turtles a smile, a tired, weak smile, but still a smile. This earned him a happy squeak from the youngest as they began to crowd him, hugging him. His body shook as he wrapped his arms around his children, comforted by their presence, just as they feel by the sight of him.
He felt a few tears slip from his eyes, as one of his sons reached up and touched one of the tears, quietly speaking to him
"Why daddy cry?" Asked the oldest
"Don't be sad daddy!" Exclaimed the second oldest
"Daddy have bad dream?" Asked the second youngest
"We love you daddy" said the youngest as he wrapped his little arms around his shaking father's body, the other three making noises of agreement with their youngest brother as they all hugged him; he felt more tears fall as a sob escaped him. Not from sadness this time, but from happiness.
Yes, he had lost his home, his wife, his father, his clan and even his daughter; but now he had a new family, maybe even a better family.
Did he miss them? Of course.
Did he regret it? No. Now he had four wonderful sons, and he wouldn't trade them for anything in the world.
