《Mated to a Bad Boy》Chapter 8: Work of Art

The morning sun streams through my window. I couldn't sleep at all last night. Every time I would close my eyes, even for a second, I would see Mia. Her horribly contorted body invading my dreams. I can't tell my family about what's going on. They worry about me enough as it is. I stumble out of the bed and into the the bathroom. Looking at myself in the mirror I see dark circles under my eyes.

Walking out of my room I smell bacon wafting through the halls. Walking down the stairs, Hunter is in the kitchen cooking. Lilac sits at the kitchen island staring at her phone till she notices me. She practically knocks her stool over as she runs over to me, locking me in a tight hug.

"I was so scared when you fell on stage. Are you sure you should be up and about?" She flashes me a concerned look.

"I'm perfectly all right." I give her a weary smile.

"But you have dark circles under your eyes."

"I'm fine, really. I errm, just had trouble sleeping last night." I can't worry everyone else. Then Lilac Whispers into my ear.

"Do you think it was Autumn."

Not wanting a repeat of our argument should Hunter hear me I silently nod my head. So far she is my only possible suspect.

I sit down at the island with Lilac as I eat my raspberry pancakes while Lilac sits there on her phone. Then I feel my phone vibrate. I look down and see a text from a number I don't recognize saying it was Lilac. I give her a confused look and my phone vibrates again.

"Just so you have my number." She ends her text with a smiley face and I roll my eyes.

Lilac then turned to her brother. "Is it alright if I show Roxie around? She hasn't really been introduced to anyone yet." I shake my head and wave my arms wildly, trying to signal her to stop.

"Roxie is not to leave this house. Not until this person is caught."

Lilac gives me a wink and walks over to Hunter. " Please, she'll be with me. I won't let her out of my sight." She pouts and gives him the puppy eyes.

I see Hunter's frosty exterior melt for a second but he stays firm. "No Lilac, she is not to leave the house and that is final, and no amount of my sister's puppy eyes will change that."

"Fine." She sighs, as if seemingly relenting. Then she shrugs with a sly smile. "Just keep her locked up like a prisoner. Don't come crying to me when she grows depressed and leaves you and this pack."

Hunter let's out an exasperated sigh. "Fine, but Caleb and Jasper are going with you and if anything happens to her, so help me..."

"Thanks brother." Lilac grabs my arm and drags out the door, leaving Hunter to mumble to himself. Lilac seems to love dragging my around like this. We walk through the territory. Several houses sit side by side and I notice the yellow tape. Lilac follows my gaze and clears her throat.

"That was Harper's house. To think someone could be doing this..."

We continue walking till we find a cute little green house with yellow roses growing out front. Lilac steps up onto the porch and knocks on the door. On the other side of the door I hear a sweet, soft spoken voice call out.

Moments later a woman with brown hair, slightly darker than mine, opens the door. Her face and hands are covered in paint.

"Hey Amber, I'm just showing Roxie around. Do you want to hang out with us?" Lilac chirps cheerfully.

"Sure, why don't you come inside for a minute. I was about to hop in the shower." Amber disappears upstairs and I look around the room. A simple living room with many paintings adorning the walls. Is she a painter I wonder?

I walk over to an easel with a canvas and I admire a painting of an ocean sunset. The warm colors of the setting sun make the water glow as swirling waves crash against the shore. I could almost hear the waves and feel the ocean mist. I find myself getting lost in the painting.

I feel someone's hand on my shoulder and I jump, turning around in mid-air. Amber is smiling at me, her hair slightly damp. "That painting is one of my own, do you like it?"

"I love it." I whisper, still recovering from my shock. How long was she standing there? "D-do you paint a lot?" I stutter.

"Yes, it is one of the things I love most in the world." She beams me a radiant smile. "I could do your portrait, are you interested?"

"That sounds great."

We leave the house and walk around as Lilac explains everything to me. We come to a clearing where a couple of wolves were fighting.

"This is the training ground, this is where we practice sparing." Lilac then points to a nearby course. "That is where we practice stalking. The goal it to navigate the course without making noise. Wanna give it a go?"

"I do but...,I don't know." I look back into the direction of the house. Would he approve or would he get mad?

Before long I hear his voice and I snap my head around and see him standing there. "Let's see what you've got."

I feel a smile spread across my face as I walk into the bushes before coming out as my wolf. Watch and be amazed.
