《Changing The Course of Fate》Chapter 8 - Reminisce

As soon as Pier reached the Central Mansion of their household, he immediately ordered the carriage to go straight to the library that was on the way from the Central Area and the Southern Area.

He recalled the conversation he had with his father, Ronnovian.

---

"Father, I wish to learn magic."

Pier and his father, Ronnovian, did not have a close relationship but he did not treat him badly at all either. Both simply did not care about each other and Pier grew up without paternal guidance.

"Do as you wish, but I do not have the time to teach you myself." his father's stern voice reached his ear. It seemed like Ronnovian was a little too uninterested in how he was speaking toward him.

Pier was disappointed. He thought that at the very least his uncaring father would teach him magic. He heard many things about Ronnovian Belmiunde too.

Ronnovian observed his son and contemplated the course of action he should take next

"I will assign you an instructor instead." Pier's ears perked up at the statement.

"Then I will look forward to it, father. Thank you!"

He was smiling ear to ear as he went out of his father's study when he thought about learning magic from another who is good at it.

---

When Pier reached the library, it was close to four o'clock in the afternoon by then.

He got off the carriage and walked towards the entrance. The giddiness he felt never ceased to make his heart flutter and all the stress he had from dealing with the young duke and the Crown Prince disappeared.

'A good thing about this library is that it is open twenty-four hours a day. I can learn until late at night here.' He smiled like a villain at the thought. People who were at the library's entrance flinched at the sight of the infamous young master smiling mischievously.

"Welcome, young master Pier!" A person who was about in his mid-twenties greeted Pier.

Pier greeted him back. The person whom Pier assumed was the librarian flinched at the response of his young master.

"Can you lead me where the books for magic are?" He asked as he looked around the uncountable shelves that were filled with even more uncountable books. Reading was never a problem for both Eliam and Pier. His memory was far better than anyone else's back in his world and he was even surprised to know that Pier had the same quality of memory. This was one of the things he was glad about Pier even though he was a dumbass who continuously makes bad choices in life.

The librarian had another sort of shocked expression on his face but Pier paid him no attention. Once the librarian got back to his senses, he smiled once more as if he never had worn such an expression.

"Ah, let me guide you there myself, young master," he said as he started walking inside the humungous library. Pier followed him behind obediently while still looking around. He would always visit libraries before and these places are one of his safe havens. They passed by multiple bookshelves before stopping in the middle part of the library where a shelf that was marked 'Basic Magic' can be seen.

"I presume the young master wanted to learn magic so I brought him here. I do hope my assumptions weren't wrong, young master." Pier liked the librarian in front of him. He smiled at the librarian who no longer flinched at the action and thanked him.

"Ah, following one's intuitions sure is a good thing for an individual. Thank you, I was indeed looking for this section." The librarian nodded back at him before bowing and excusing himself after successfully leading the infamous young master to his desired location.

'Let's see... hmmm...' Pier started scanning every book that was in the section.

Children's Basic Book for Magic

How a Child Should Use Magic

The Basics of Magic

How to Create a Small Magic Orb for Children

'... Did the librarian purposely bring me in the kid's section?' Pier asked himself. Most of the books here were for children.

'But I guess this would be a good starter, Pier's knowledge about magic was like that of an infant's anyway' He sighed but picked up all of the books in the children's section.

'This shit is heavy,' he complained as he was panting after carrying too many books in the corner of the library. Pier hated having no wall behind him when he was trying to focus so he chose the spot.

'Hmmm... let's start with this.' He picked up the book that was entitled 'The Basics of Magic'.

Pier opened the book and started reading the content.

It took him all night to read all the books in the children's corner.

--

To properly use magic at the basic level, one has to focus their mind on the specific action that they wanted to take.

Pier closed his eyes and imagined himself gathering a non-existent force in his hand

"By my commandment, heed my call and grant my wishes." He recited lowly. Suddenly, a small gust started forming in his hand. It was a wind orb. Pier smiled widely as his excitement was starting to flow out of him.

The small wind orb was weakly circulating in his hand. The gusts of wind that were encircling each other in his palm were giving him excitement. He was starting to tear up a little bit at the wonderful event happening in front of his face.

It was one of his secret dreams to use magic. All the time he spent reading different comic books and reading novels was already becoming reality.

"I tried using fire but I could only gather the heat around my palm and it does not even have a form." Pier tried closing his eyes and chanting the phrase he read in the books. The phrase itself was also very long. Pier does not like doing or saying too many things.

He was disappointed that he needed to do a chant before being able to cast magic but the excitement overwhelmed him more

"I've read that people could use one or two elements at most. So, I presume I can use wind and fire then." he fisted his hand and started giggling like a maniac. Luckily no one saw the unpleasant display Pier made.

"At the very best I can presume that I am a basic magic user?" There were rankings when it comes to using magic as mentioned in the books. The lowest tier would be basic and as the rank gets higher so does their power. It also signifies their status within society.

Pier looked outside the window of the library. It was already dark and most of the individuals had already gone home. Those who had something left to do were now the ones left in the library.

'The carriage must have been waiting for a while now. I should go home.' Of course, Pier still had his conscience. As much as he wanted to continue studying in the library, he had the carriage he rode into the king's palace and towards the library waiting for him.

"Did I make you wait too long?" He asked the carriage driver who was petting the horses. The horsemen looked at the voice and saw his young master standing beside him

"Not at all, young master! It was my pleasure to wait for you!" He continued rambling about how it was his greatest achievement to serve the young master of the Belmiunde Household and on.

Pier looked at the carriage driver and felt pity. 'Maybe the guy's tired. I made him wait too long,' He then made the order to drive him back to the central mansion

While inside the carriage, Pier peeked outside the windows and saw that the bricked road was illuminated by balls of shining orbs. Trees were glowing as the balls moved from tree to tree as if they were alive.

It was a sight to behold. For Eliam who just came into this world for mere weeks, everything was overwhelming. He had read numerous books and novels about magic but he never thought it would become real. He did not even know the reason why he was transmigrated into this world. He had no connection with Pier at all.

Why did he manage to live a new life?

Is this some sort of novel where he had to do something? But based on all of his memories, he never read a novel with someone named Pier as either the main character, villain, or even a minor character.

What was the reason why he was given a second chance? Why Pier?

He placed his hands on his chin and continued to look out the window. The shining white orbs seemed like they were dancing along with the wind.

If he had transmigrated without Pier's memory, he may have lost his mind already. Thanks to Pier's memories that were left with his body, he was able to continue forming plans and take steps forward. He may look like he's calm and had already adjusted to this world but in reality, he was still confused. He met people he did not know and lived the life of someone whose soul may have died already.

His hair fluttered along with the wind. It was a peaceful yet nerve-wracking moment.

He stared at his palm and concentrated an invisible force on it. The small gust of wind that appeared in his hand was similar to those orbs that were outside.

'Do I need to accomplish something in this world? Or do simply live what Pier wanted me to do?' He recalled what the old caretaker at the greenhouse said in the previous week

'Nature surrounds me? Well, if technically speaking nature is indeed around us.' It was weirder because the young guard was with him but the old man did not approach him. Instead, he even called Pier a savior.

'Am I some sort of hero in the future in a novel?' To say it was frustrating was not enough. If he were indeed a hero based on what the old man said then that means he had to defeat dragons and other mythical creatures.

'So annoying...' When the carriage reached the central mansion, Pier got off and immediately sent the driver who was trying to stay awake with all his might.

"You have my gratitude," he sincerely thanked the driver. Eliam might not like those who oppose his commands especially when he has the upper hand but he sincerely likes those who benefit him.

The driver gulped as he heard the gratitude of his young master. He bowed his head with his hand on his chest and reciprocated the thanks.

Pier then went inside the mansion and immediately went to his room. He will meet the instructor assigned by his father tomorrow.

'How are my parents in my world by the way?' He smiled at the thought. Pier's parents may not have cared for him as their son and instead focused on raising his image as the perfect child of a wealthy couple but they are still his parents.

'I hope my younger brother's doing well.' It was his last thought as he changed, took a bath, and made sleep engulf him.
