The night of the new moon...

"Thanks for letting us use the Cascade tonight, Jacob."

"No problem! Have fun camping and be careful. I hear that island can give people some trouble."

"We will. See ya tomorrow."

Hanzo and McCree boarded the Cascade and took off for Doragon island. The two of them grew anxious. Hanzo was worried that somehow someway all of this would go wrong. That he wouldn't get his tail. That he would have to spend another month among the humans, or stay human forever. Anyhow, he was prepared for every outcome. He grew impatient as the boat drove closer and closer to the island. His nails dug into the side of the boat as he looked out. He heard McCree shout from behind him. He turned to see McCree grin and nod at him.

"This is gonna work."

They arrived and McCree threw the ancor. Making sure it was secure he grabbed a bag and stared up at the moon. It glisened brightly. He looked down at his watch. Five minutes till midnight. He looked over at Hanzo.

"We gotta move."

They hopped off the boat and ran for the cave. The moon pool and the cave looked the same. McCree looked at his watch. One minute. All of a sudden the pool started to bubble. The water moved like it was boiling and shone in the moonlight. The light shined through the hole in the ceiling. McCree and Hanzo glanced at one another unsure of what to do.

"I-I think you gotta get in the water Hanz."

So he did. He slowly, but cautiously stepped into the moon pool. The water bubbling all around him. He turned and leaned back into the water. McCree checked his watch one more time, watching it strike midnight. He looked up waiting for something to happen. The moonlight that entered started to shine even brighter than before, almost blinding Jesse. He blocked the light and took a step back. It shown brightly for a while. All of a sudden the light was gone. The moon pools bubbles had stopped. The water was still for a long time. McCree ran to the edge of the pool. He couldn't see anything in the water.

"Hanzo?"

No answer. He started to panick and went waist-deep into the water. He thrashed his arms trying to reach Hanzo, trying to find his body.

"Hanzo! Where the hell are you?!"

He couldn't feel anything. Just then he was startled by something leaping out of the water in front of him. He fell back out of the pool and saw Hanzo splash back into the water. His powerful blue tail now attached to him. He cheered loudly as he pranced and swam around the moon pool.

"Yes! My tail! It has returned!"

Hanzo took a cheerful dive deep into the moon pool and out of it's underwater cave. He used his strong tail to glide through the water like silk. He laughed and smiled proudly. Hanzo leaped above the water feeling the cold air against his skin. He let his scale covered body hit the water below. He stopped for a minute to rest and felt his webbed fins on the side of his head. Hanzo looked at his webbed hands and the fin running along his back. He felt like himself again. Hanzo turned and quickly swam back to the moon pool.

"McCree! Can you believe-"

But when Hanzo raised his head above the water the cave was empty. McCree was gone. Hanzo stared curiously and swam to the beach. McCree was in the Cascade pulling the anchor up. Hanzo stared at him for a while. McCree looked very desolate. He began starting the boat with a sickening pale face full of misery. Hanzo swam to the boat.

"Jesse, what are you doing?"

McCree was unable to look at Hanzo. He kept his hand on the wheel and continued looking foreward.

"What's done is done Hanzo. I suggest you go back to Japan so no one else can catch you. Goodbye."

McCree started to slowly speed off away from the island. Hanzo gasped and stared in shock towards the boat. He quickly swam towards it diving below the water. He took a great leap and landed in the back of the boat. McCree stopped it in a hurry and turned to look at Hanzo. McCree's face was bright red and tears streamed from his face.

"What are you doing Jesse? I want to go with you. I can be just like the mermaid from the story. I can still live among the humans."

"No, what.....what if they find you Hanzo? I would never forgive myself if they took you away." McCree whimpered.

Hanzo stared at Jesse in remorse then down at his tail. He held a hand over his tail. The water on him slowly evaporated and he changed. His legs were back, until water touched him again. He scrambled to his feet and looked up at McCree.

"Like this, no one will ever find out." Hanzo explained.

McCree looked up and down at Hanzo for a long time. He turned his head away. All of a sudden McCree's shaky hand slowly brought up his revolver aiming it towards Hanzo. Hanzo froze and stared in bewilderment down the barrel of the gun. Hanzo's body became shaky. He couldn't catch his breath let alone wonder why McCree would act this way. He stared in fear past the barrel into Jesse's sad eyes. The gun still shaking in his hand.

"J-Jesse.....w-why?"

"I am trying to protect you. If that means you can't walk beside me then I'll let it be. T-this....is your last warning. Go home now. Get away grom this place. Protect yourself Hanzo. I'll only cause you trouble. Go...now."

Hanzo's somber eyes closed tightly. He gritted his teeth as tears started to poor down his face. He slowly turned around with his back to McCree and looked into the dark water. All of a sudden the water looked unfamiliar. Hanzo looked over his shoulder at McCree still waiting for him to leave. Hanzo turned back around and dove into the water. When McCree made sure he hadn't come back up he put his gun away and drove the boat back to the doc. Jacob was still there at the doc house. He sat at the bar and watched Jesse come in. His face was still red and puffy.

"You're back early. Where's Hanzo?"

McCree threw his hat angrily onto the bar and hopped up on the stool next to Jacob. He grabbed the bottle of booze already presented on the bar and took a long gulp of the liquid. He sighed removing it from his mouth. He peered at Jacob and spoke with a broken voice.

"He had to leave..."
