《Waxing Gibbous》Blood Type (A)

The next day I decided to figure it out, would I tell Bella probably not, but I needed to know for myself. So, I watched them, avoiding Rosalie at all costs because if we were being honest, I didn't want to think she was like that. I didn't want to think that she could be a monster.

The easiest target for me to watch was Edward, we shared practically every class and he was taking a liking towards Bella. If they were dangerous, and I found that hard to believe, but if they were...

I had to know if Harry and Billy were correct. So, I made a checklist of things to look out for, from the old legends.

1. Red eyes – No but my great grandfather did supposedly meet some with yellowish or golden eyes.

2. Fast, very fast - Edward was able to move a good distance in a few seconds... but I was willing to chalk that up to my mixed-up mind. I had never actually seen any of them run.

3. Strong? Inconclusive... Bella swore Edward pushed the van and protected us. If she were to be believed, then yes, he was extremely strong.

4. Cold but not just cold. Ice-cold and Pale white. They were pale, but so was Bella so that meant nothing, were they ice cold? Not enough evidence to make an accurate decision on that.

5. Finally, Blood lust – unable to control themselves around blood... Carlilse worked in a hospital, so it seemed unlikely. But the story claimed they were different, hunted animals.

It wasn't much of a list. And none of it was something I could undeniably prove or say I witnessed. I was starting to feel ridiculous for judging the Cullens.

They were just pale...

But as I came to that conclusion, I saw something that put the hunt back on. Bella got out of her truck and dropped her keys, when she leaned down to pick it up Edward beat her too it. It was like he materialized out of thin air. I watched them argue for a moment before heading to class.

No. 2? Check.

The rest of the morning passed in a blur. It was difficult to believe that I hadn't just imagined Edward appearing from nowhere. Maybe it was just a very convincing dream that I'd confused with reality. Maybe I'm letting Bella and the old legends confuse me.

So, as I walked into the cafeteria, my hair still wet from my shower I couldn't help but glance at the Cullen table. But I was shocked to see Edward was not with them, in fact he was sitting on the other side of the cafeteria with...

Bella.

I sat down at my table and listened to Lauren and Jess gossip about the two of them. Occasionally I glanced over at the two and saw Bella start to get aggravated.

Mike tensed up, like he was willing to rush over there and be Bella's knight in shining armor. I grabbed his arm and pulled him down. Right now, I didn't have anything to suggest that Edward was dangerous I needed more information than Edward being freakishly fast.

I watched the two while simultaneously making sure I ate. Edward ate nothing... he didn't even have food, like his siblings... They didn't eat anything either. Could this be because they wanted blood? Or restrictive diets? No why would they get food from the cafeteria if they couldn't eat it? Why waste it?

Angela nudged me when it was nearly time for class. I stood up and followed her shaking my head. Thankfully Angela didn't ask too many questions, she was content to allow me to stay in my mind.

I couldn't figure it out.

One, why was Edward all of a sudden intrigued with Bella, what did she have that made her so interesting that that elusive Edward Cullen broke all the normalcy he and his family carefully developed over the two years.

And why did they carefully craft such an isolated life?

Then to add more confusion, Bella was almost late for class and Edward was nowhere to be seen. I don't think they've ever skipped a class. Not the sunny out kind of skip but a full-blown skipping one class.

Mr. Banner came in the room then, calling the class to order. He was juggling a few small cardboard boxes in his arms. He put them down on Mike's table, telling him to start passing them around the class.

"Okay, guys, I want you all to take one piece from each box," he said as he produced a pair of rubber gloves from the pocket of his lab jacket and pulled them on.

"The first should be an indicator card," he went on, grabbing a white card with four squares marked on it and displaying it. "The second is a four-pronged applicator —" he held up something that looked like a nearly toothless hair pick "— and the third is a sterile micro-lancet." He held up a small piece of blue plastic and split it open. The barb was invisible from this distance.

But I knew it was there... we were blood typing today.

I knew my blood type... I had to.

"I'll be coming around with a dropper of water to prepare your cards, so please don't start until I get to you." He began at Mike's table again, carefully putting one drop of water in each of the four squares.

"Then I want you to carefully prick your finger with the lancet..." He grabbed Mike's hand and jabbed the spike into the tip of Mike's middle finger. "Put a small drop of blood on each of the prongs." He demonstrated, squeezing Mike's finger till the blood flowed.

"And then apply it to the card," he finished, holding up the dripping red card for us to see. Then it hit me.

The story of the cold ones said they drank blood, the third wife's sacrifice... they couldn't control themselves around fresh blood. But that didn't make sense, Carlisle was a doctor, he was around blood all day. And who knew how often people got paper cuts or injuries; what about when people had their periods? But if they were something different, hunted animals could they control themselves in the little instances.

If they were cold ones, it would explain why Edward was gone, why he wasn't in class.

"The Red Cross is having a blood drive in Port Angeles next weekend, so I thought you should all know your blood type." He sounded proud of himself. "Those of you who aren't eighteen yet will need a parent's permission — I have slips at my desk."

He continued through the room with his water drops. I glanced at Bella who was putting her head on the table, maybe Edward was woozy around blood, like Bella.

That's a logical explanation... then again how would he know we were blood typing?

All around me I could hear squeals, complaints, and giggles as my classmates skewered their fingers. I was so distracted that I didn't realize Mr. Banner had already put water on my card until Angela nudged me.

"are you okay?"

I nodded and began poking my finger, letting the blood pool. "yeah, I'm just thinking about how often I've gotten blood work"

"I guess with your mom being a doctor... and being her-"

I chuckled "it's okay, you can call her a helicopter mom."

Angela laughed a little poking her finger. Blood work was a common place in my life, seeing as I was sick a lot. My mom was very in tune with my health. All healthy foods, plenty of exercise but not too much, when I got sick she was quick to squash it.

That being said I almost never saw a doctor other than her which I thought was weird. Even when Dr. Cullen was around my mom was my main doctor, even the accident Carlisle only signed the papers. My mom hovered for the stitches, the medication and she took over once Carlisle said I was good to go.

"Yeah, I figured you would know everything about your health"

I chuckled "not everything, but a lot. Probably more than everyone else does"

I finished putting the blood on the card before I dug through my bag to find some band aids. Once I covered the wound I offered Angela a bandage. She decided not to take it, but I wasn't offended. But I knew if I didn't cover the spot it would get infected... that's just the way my immune system worked.

"Can someone take Bella to the nurse, please?" I heard Mr. Banner call. I didn't need to look to know that Mike would volunteer. The blood on my card was just drying when Mike returned.

I knew there wasn't enough time for him to take Bella to the nurses office and get back. But before I could question it, Lee grew faint. Like Bella, Mike was volunteered to take him to the nurses office.

After a few minutes I compared my card to the instructions and not surprisingly it was 'AB-'. But I already knew this, though I never did home blood typing, I only knew because my mom told me. Bella didn't return to class.

When the bell rang I put my card in a folder and headed to Art.

We were starting the wood section. One week learning about how to make art our of wood and our options to do so. Basically, she was telling us we can either make something out of popsicle sticks or we can carve something or a mix of both. Of course, we had longer to do so than before, but it was also stated that we may need to work on this at home as well.

While in art class I tried to watch Alice or Lucia, to see if they had any strange instances... There were none. None of them did anything out of the ordinary, nothing that wasn't 'human'.

Except their self-isolation.
