《Poems》The Unholy Offspring of Nature

Clouds move across the moon,

Thunder rumbles, the rain begins.

I look out through the little glass window.

The wind howls in the night,

Heard even through the solid walls.

Thunder again, lightning strikes,

The booms shake the ground.

I count the seconds until another flash,

The sky turns orange in the black of night,

Pitter-pat of the rain against my window.

My forehead pressed against it, mouth slightly open,

My breath fogs it up, then it disappears.

I yearn to go outside, to feel the wonder,

To feel the world in its rage,

The freezing rain like bullets fired,

The ripping wind scorching against my skin.

But fear stops me, keeps me in place.

The thunder sounds right above me,

I flinch and back away, but I continue to watch,

Glad for the safety of my house,

And the window that separates us.

The storm of a night fury rages on,

But just because it's dangerous,

Doesn't mean it's not beautiful.
