Lying on the cold roof of the car, we watch
The sky shines bright above us
Crickets chirp and soft music plays
Whispers and giggles to pass the time
A streak of light
Silence falls. Watching. Waiting.
Another one
Screams of delight. Pointing fingers skyward
One after the other, they zoom across the sky
Wide eyes open, daring not to blink
Don't blink.
One blink and it's over
Stars stream across the sky
Falling so fast yet so far away
Waiting. Not blinking.
Two more.
I blink.
