Heads up that this chapter is long again; summary at end.
———-
I spent a while coming up with ideas until Henry decided to show up.
"Hey, you hungry at all?"
I looked up at Henry suspiciously.
"Is this another attempt to murder me or something?"
"No...I'm literally just asking if you're hungry or not, no need to get so defensive."
"...No thanks, I'm not hungry." I looked down at my plan.
"Whatcha drawing?" Henry asked, sitting next to me.
"A new room, this room sucks."
"Ehhh, I reckon I could get used to this room."
"The roof is literally on the ground."
"Yeah, seems homely to me in here."
I ignored him and continued on my design.
Henry just stayed silent and stared at what I was doing.
——-
"Alright, what do you think?" I gave Henry the piece of paper that contained what the room would look like.
Henry looked at it.
"Looks ugly, but that's okay I don't give a shit." Henry handed back the paper.
"Alright...So we're-"
"You're."
"What do you mean you're?"
"I'm not helping, this was all your idea."
I sighed.
"Okay, can you at least come withs to help get the stuff I need."
"Sure, only because it's boring as hell in this place."
"Alright, so we're going to need wood, paint, nails and a drill."
"That's all?"
"No there's other things, but they don't matter."
"Okay."
As soon as we got up, we heard someone screaming, as if there wasn't enough screaming happening already in this.
We ran out to see Mike getting crushed by a huge chunk of the roof. Jonathan was beside him trying to get the roof of him.
"Hey, you okay?" I asked Mike.
"No...I think i broke a bone."
"Here, Jonathan I'll help."
Henry helped Jonathan get the roof off of Mike.
"Wow thanks? Why are you being nice?" Mike asked.

"What do you mean? I'm always nice."
"I doubt that." I commented.
"Oh shut up you squeaky grocery cart."
"That's...Oddly specific."
"You're welcome."
"Anyways, me and Henry are off to look for some things for our room."
"Hey wait, I have an map in case you get lost!" Jonathan said, quickly running in and out of his and Mikes room.
"Take it so you don't get lost."
The map was oddly big, it had some marks on it while told us what was around the place, however, there one mark that intrigued me.
"What's with the 'don't go' cross?"
"All you need to know is that area is an don't go area." Mike answered.
"Why, what's over there?"
"It's better that you don't find out, anyways, if you're looking for room stuff, we suggest that village over there." Mike added, pointing to a totally not far village.
"Gotcha."
"Wait!" Jonathan yelled.
"What now?!" I asked, annoyed.
"Catch!" Jonathan threw a torch at me.
"Thanks!"
"Stay safe you two!"
——-
Me and Henry started walking, following the map. I noticed Henry seemed to be in thought.
"Something up?"
"How the hell were we able to see before?"
"Well, our eyesight can adjust accordingly to the dark."
"Wait our eyes can do that?"
"Yeah? Didn't you pay attention in school or something?"
"Dear god I didn't know you were a nerd."
"At least I'm not a alcoholic."
Henry just looked down.
We walked in silence for a while until Henry spoke up again.
"You know, that hair of yours reminds me of cat ears."
"Cat ears?!"
"Yeah, literally, look at yourself."
"My hair does not assemble cat ears at all!" I gawped.
"Sureeee."
"I'm being serious!"
"Sure you are." Henry smiled.
I was about to argue back, but a loud buzzing sound from behind interrupted us.

We turned around to see it was...
"A mosquito!"
"Run!"
Me and Henry ran for our lives.
———
We eventually lost the mosquito and ended up at the village Jonathan and Mike were talking about.
"Wow...This place is so empty."
"Probably a good thing, so we can just take the stuff and go without having any complaints or payment." Henry mentioned.
"True."
"Wow, that's new, did you learn that word or something?"
I walked away again, not wanting to answer.
————
All the houses looked abandoned, but used. There was food in the fridges, there was things inside, but yet, no people.
We got all that we needed and left.
"This is suspicious, why is there no one here?"
"Probably because no one lives here?" I answered.
"Yeah...But something isn't right."
And Henry was right, just as he said that, a bunch of mosquitos came out.
"Oh god damn it!"
I was running for dear life until I saw that smoke again...I felt my heart racing and myself becoming faster...Fast enough to run back to the base. By the time I got back, the smoke reappeared again, assuming I was calmer then before, or well I thought, the feeling was still there, but not as bad.
When I walked in Mike and Jonathan seemed to be having a conversation.
"Jonathan! Mike!" I interrupted.
"Huh?" The two turned to me.
"Mosquitos!" I shrieked.
"Oh god damn it not again." Mike sighed, putting his hand on his head.
"I'll go get the vacuum." Jonathan said emptily, leaving.
"Wait what do we need the vacuum for?"
"You'll see." Mike replied.
Me and Mike looked outside to see Henry running from the mosquitos.
"Henry! Whatever you do stay in this area!" Mike yelled.
"Why?! Their going to try to corner me!"
"Just stay!"
"Okay!"
Just on time, Jonathan came out with a vacuum.
"Mike, if I die, just know I love you."
"Wait...really?" Mike stammered.
Jonathan didn't answer and just turned on the vacuum and ran to the mosquitos.
"So...Jonathan hey?" I asked smugly, turning to Mike.
"Oh...Uh..." Mike looked away, he was as red as a tomato.
"What's with the ring by the way?" I questioned.
"Oh...This...Me and Jonathan are married."
"Wait what?"
"Me and Jonathan are ma-rr-ied. You know, husband and husband?"
"Wow...Okay. Sorry, thats a lot to take in."
"No it's alright...I understand if-"
"I just didn't think the two of you would even know how to without over thinking it."
"...Oh."
"Don't get me wrong, I am happy for you guys."
"Oh!"
"I just didn't think you guys actually would get married."
Just then Jonathan and Henry came back up.
"Hey guys! What are talking about?" Jonathan asked.
The two looked a mess, there was mud all over them.
"The cat is out of the bag." Mike answered.
"Wait really?! I thought that cat was thoroughly sealed!" Jonathan winced.
"No not the literal cat! Our secret!"
"Secret? What secret?" Henry asked, turning to Jonathan.
"...Oh..."
"You probably should tell Henry."
"Alright. Me and Mike are married."
"Wait you guys are gay!?"
"Yeah-"
"Oh my god me to!" Henry exclaimed.
"Ayyyy."
"Anyways, we found this note inside the vacuum that the mosquitos had."
Jonathan handed us the note.
"Dear Dad, I may or may not be in a hostage situation anyways, follow this map it's very cool and stuff. Totally not a trap or anything! Also come before that moon turns red (you have 3 days.) okay byeeee! Love you." I read out.
"Wait...Kyles here?" Mike asked.
"Well, the handwriting definitely belongs to him."
"Wait wait wait, pause. You guys have a kid?"
"Oh uh...It's a long story. Anyways, we should go see him."
"True, true. Alright, let's go."
And so, we set off on a journey to find Kyle, who sounds familiar, but, I can't put my head around who that is.

Savage Hunters
Giant monsters roam the land Civilization is frozen in a savage age. For the beast slayer Alden, power and survival are one and the same. The ancient evil that once ravaged his village and murdered his ancestors has returned. At the same time, politics hurls Alden and his crew into gladiator pit battles for control of the throne. When Alden takes possession of a cursed sword promising untold power, the hunter is determined to save his people by slaying every giant monster standing between him and the throne. But the angry ghost trapped inside the blade has other ideas. Buckle up for the brutal LitRPG ride of a lifetime Savage Hunters is an alternate-world neolothic fantasy. Characters grow their powers with explicit stat blocks presented right in the text, including levels, attribute scores, and unlockable skill trees. Experience is accumulated by battling enormous monsters the size of buildings. Political intrigue and romance elements ramp up as the series progresses. I originally wrote this story after playing Monster Hunter with my niece. She was 12 at the time, already an avid reader, and wanted to read my other published books. I'm a licensed psychotherapist specializing in severe trauma so I tend toward darker fiction. I told her my usual books are too brutal for her but I'd write her something special. The result was this series, which has been praised by both teens and adults for its depth and universal appeal. It begins with an emphasis on cultural elements because I consulted with a trained anthropologist to craft this neolithic setting down to exacting social detail. After these opening chapters, it rapidly shifts to an action-packed adventure. The first 3 books are fully written as of November 2020, totalling approximately 69 chapters. The first book has been professionally edited already. The following two books require some editing which I'll do on a chapter-by-chapter basis as releases progress. I welcome reviews and comments. Writing is a passion, and reader engagement makes my labor all the sweeter.
