(Y/n)'s POV
We charge through the maze for what feels like forever. Until we get to the entrance and Thomas gets us to stand right against the wall "is there a griever," Chuck asks "yeah," Thomas says his eyes continuing to flicker around the corner to keep an eye on the creature. "Take this Chuck, and stay behind us," Minho instructs "Stick with us," I tell Chuck gesturing to myself and Teresa.
"Okay, we stick close, we stay together and we get out now, or we die trying. Ready?" Thomas says and we all prepare ourselves I pull out a machete and get ready to defend Chuck. "Let's go!" Thomas shouts as we all charge out from around the corner, and fear is wrapping around me as we charge toward the griever. Teresa, Chuck and I avoid and evade as the battle rages not wanting to end up on the wrong end, and I wasn't going to leave Chuck's side. Teresa swipes at one of the griever's legs as it comes down in front of her, and accidentally knocks into the key.
"The Key!" Chuck screams and charges after it as it barrels to the side of the narrow passageway "Chuck!" I shout and chase after him, he dives for the key and is nearly falling over the edge. "I've got you, Chuck!" I shout as I grab onto him and pull him up with Teresa "Pull me up! Pull me up!" he screams frantically as we get him back on the platform. We run to the boys as many grievers begin to climb over the sides to close in on us.
"They're coming!" Chuck screams terrified, When we approach the wall it opens "it worked," Chuck says as we begin barreling through until we're stopped by a coded lock. Teresa goes over closer to the guys "Thomas there's a code! Eight numbers!" She shouts at them "Hey, Minho! What's the sequence of the maze!" He asks and as Minho begins calling out the numbers I hurry to punch each in. A griever falls from above directly onto Minho and I fear that he'll be killed "Minho!" I shout out and then Clint springs into action attacking the griever so that Minho can get away.

"Clint!!" Winston calls out as the Griever wins the battle dragging him away and they have to begin fighting new grievers leaving no one anytime to grieve. "Minho what's the rest!" I shout out to him and he quickly resumes telling me the sequence. Once I put in the last number the lock turns green and the walls fall onto the remaining grievers attacking us. We're in total darkness for a minute before the wall in front of us opens, and Teresa pushes it open to reveal harsh fluorescent light.
We exit the darkroom to notice we're in some type of tunnel and we all cautiously follow Thomas through the tunnel until we reach another door that reads exit. "Seriously?" Fry asks staring at the words, Thomas opens the door to reveal more chaos flickering broken lights and corpses littering the floor. We push through and I begin to wonder if anywhere is safe, as we see two bodies under white sheets with a single bloody gunshot wound to both of them.
"What happened here?" I ask looking around as we see more corpses littering the floor the further we roam, but I am met with no reply. I look over the larger room we enter until my attention is distracted by a screen that is frozen on a picture of the glade. My heart stops, it was from days ago, of me and Gally just talking. I stare at the image much longer than I should and an ache begins to surge through me because I know that moment will never happen again.
A video comes to life in the center of the room that pulls me away from my thoughts. "hello, my name is dr. Ava Paige, I'm the director of operations here at the world catastrophe Killzone department. If you're watching this then that means you've successfully completed the maze trials. I wish I could be there in person to congratulate you, but circumstances seemed to have prevented that. I'm sure by now you must all be very confused, angry, and frightened. I can only assure you that everything that has been done to you, everything we've done to you, it was all done for a reason. You won't remember, but the sun has scorched our world. Billions of lives lost to fire and famine. Suffering on a global scale, the fallout was unimaginable. What came after was worse we called it the flare. A deadly virus that attacks the brain, it's violent, unpredictable, incurable. Or so we thought, In time a new generation emerged who could survive the virus, suddenly there was reason to hope for a cure, but finding it would not be easy. The young would have to be tested, even sacrificed inside harsh environments, so their brain activity could be studied. All in an effort to understand what makes them different. In an effort to know what makes you different. You're very important, unfortunately, your trials have only just begun. As you'll no doubt soon discover, not everyone agrees with our methods, progress is slow people are scared. It may be too late for us but not for you, remember Wicked is good," She tells us.

I stare at the screen in disbelief as she shoots herself in the head on camera, so much information was dumped on us and I didn't know what" that meant for us. Thomas crosses the floor to where Ava Paige lay dead, and we all stare nearly in disbelief as if we hadn't just seen the video of her killing herself. A loud noise sounds and another door this one leading outside begins to open.
"Is it over?" Chuck asks looking at the door unsure "she said we were important," Newt adds "what are we supposed to do now," I say looking to Thomas for some kind of answer. "I don't know, let's get out of here," he tells us honestly. Then I hear "no," from a voice I know better than anyone and I whip my head around so fast. I see Gally with a gun in hand and thick sweat coating his brow "Gally," I say stepping towards him but he points the gun up at Thomas.
"He's been stung," Teresa points out and I nearly collapse as I see that she's right a hole cut through his brown shirt where a griever stung him. Then I see Gally drop the stinger and confusion floods me, he stung himself to remember. "We can't leave," Gally tells us the gun shaking in his grasp "We can, Gally we're out, we're free," Thomas tells him trying to talk Gally down, but there was no talking him down he was stung. I just stare in disbelief "please Gally" I say tears falling as I look at the boy I love in front of me.
"Free? You think we're free out there? No, no there's no escape from this place," Gally says steadying his grip on the gun trained on Thomas. I can see the black veins creeping up Gally's neck as he shakes and I feel my knees weakening wishing I could stop him and stop this disaster unfolding before me. "Gally, listen to me you're not thinking straight, you're not, now we can help you (Y/n) can help you. Just put down the gun," Thomas tries to persuade. "I belong to the maze, we all do!" Gally says before firing the gun as Chuck pushes himself in front of Thomas, and minho puts a spear through Gally.
I scream louder than I knew I could and my vision goes blurry. I go to Gally and hold his hand as he gasps for breath "Gally!" I scream and grab his face "I love you!" I tellhim wishing I had told him before. "Gally please for the love of God please!" I shout at him. I continue sobbing and clutching at Gally until I am pulled away to see Chuck, my little brother lying next to him and I only sob harder and I wish I was dead.
I cry even when I am brought out and forced to run to some kind of plane. I can't find it in myself to pull myself together and I feel someone hug me and I don't even look to see who it is. I cry until my head hurts and I fall into a restless sleep.
Gally and Chuck. The boy I was suppose to protect and the boy I loved died right in front of me and I didn't do anything.
I will never sit by again.

The Simulacrum
"He who fights with harem tropes should see to it that he himself does not become a harem protagonist. And if you gaze for long into a narrative, the narrative gazes also into you." --- Friedrich Nietzsche (probably?) How would you react if one day you woke up inside an environment running on tropes and clichés? For allegedly average high-schooler Leonard Dunning, this question became quite relevant when one day he woke up in a pristine city on a strange island in the middle of the Atlantic, without any memories, surrounded by classmates who are barely more than characterless placeholders, and with a classic indecisive harem protagonist and his impossibly beautiful love interests for friends. That would be hard to deal with already, yet his investigation into the tropes governing the world, trying to avoid harem shenanigans, and his odd blend of outside-context knowledge, unique abilities, and a penchant for causing trouble wherever he goes ends up dragging him into the center of the action anyway. Disclaimer: This is a tongue-in-cheek, slice of life romantic comedy, with occasional sprinkles of combat and mystery to spice things up. Please do not expect a straight up deconstruction beyond some in-universe meta-commentary by the characters.
