《Love at First Fight》Fighting Circle

(Y/n)'s POV

When the bonfire begins I'm happy to finally be able to resume my anniversary with Gally. I know it'll be short though because as tradition he'll be in the fighting circle once the night is in full swing. I see Gally talking and laughing with the builders and I smile at them and go over to peck Gally on the cheek before joining in with the conversation.

"How'd work go this afternoon?" I quiz looking over at Gally "fine, the shanks learned to stop dragging their feet once I got back over," he told me as he glanced back at the builders behind us. Gally looks at me for a hard moment and I try to read his mind but I'm lost "Are you okay Gally?" I ask bringing him out of his daze causing him to laugh nervously.

"Sorry, I guess I was just lost in thought. I should go into the fighting circle," he tells me seeming a little uneasy.

Gally's POV

I wanted so badly to confess to her that I love her, but as much as I hate to admit it I didn't know what she'd say back. Would she say it back or would this ruin everything we've built over the last year? I hurry to the fighting circle wanting to push the thought as far out of my mind as I possibly could.

(Y/n)'s POV

When Gally leaves I only watch the fighting circle for a minute, not many surprises ever come out of the fighting circles. I notice Newt showing around the Greenie and I see them nearing close to where I stand "This is the girl of the glade. She's also Gally's girl so don't flirt with her," Newt explains causing me to laugh slightly. "So what do you think of the glade?" I ask the greenie when Gally tosses someone out of the fighting circle that knocks into the Greenie.

"What do you say Greenie? Want to see what you're made of?" Gally asks backing up into the circle taunting the Greenie. I smirk at the taunt his usual way of bringing gladers in for a fight they can't win. The boys around begin chanting Greenie repeatedly until the Greenie has really no other choice. "Okay, well the rules are simple Greenie. I try to push you out of the circle, you try to last more than five seconds," Gally explains causing the gladers to laugh at his joke

"ready?" he quizzes right before charging quickly and shoving the greenie hard trying to knock him out of the circle. The greenie is only pushed back in by other gladers not ready for the fight to be over, but the push back causes the greenie to fall in the sand at Gally's feet. "Come on Greenie we're not done yet," Gally tells him stretching out getting ready for another attack.

"Stop calling me greenie," he says as he gets back up causing me to roll my eyes at the stupid demand. "Stop calling you that? What do you want to be called? Shank?" Gally suggests riling the boys up once again as he looks over at me "what do you think (Y/n)? Does he look like a shank?" He asks with a wink. Then the boy charges toward Gally full force, but Gally grabs him by the shoulders and with only little struggle throws the boy back down to the ground.

"You know what I think I'm settled on shank," Gally tells him with a smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth. The greenie tries the same tactic as before and grabs Gally's middle, but Gally just pushes the boy forward towards the edge of the circle. Before Gally can successfully push him out the Greenie releases his grip and falls to the side. Gally falls flat on his stomach and I can see the frustration bloom across his features.

"Not bad for a Greenie," the boy begins as gally knocks him off his feet with a quick kick to his feet. I can hear the sound of the boy's head smacking the ground and I hear the groan that also erupts from him, but it was still a clean move an often used one in the fighting circle too. Gally stands ready for the Greenie to stand and attack again until one is claimed victorious.

"Thomas, Hey Thomas! I remember my name! I'm Thomas!" he shouts excitedly and everyone forgets about the fight to cheer excitedly for the recovered memory. It was a pure moment as we all cheered, but of course, interrupted by a scream from the grievers, and Alby immediately called lights out.

As Gally and I got back to the room I wrapped my arms around him "another fun bonfire," I tell him yawning lightly from the exhaustion of the day. Gally turned and kissed me lightly "every bonfire you're cheering for me at is a great one," he tells me. We stay up long after returning even though both of us struggle to keep our eyes open.

"I want you to know something (Y/n)," he tells me and I wonder if he's about to say what I wanted to hear the most. "I will always protect you, and I promise to always be here," he says and my heart falls for a moment sad that it wasn't the I love you I was hoping for. I don't complain though and bring a kiss to his lips "I will always be your home," I tell him as I let my eyes finally close as I drift off to sleep.
