*Melanie's POV*

We were outside, trying to help Bella with her shield. Kate used her powers on Edward, trying to encourage her by harming her mate. She didn't succeed until she threatened to do it to Nessie though.

It was now my turn. I smirk at my brother, who was watching the whole ordeal from the patio. I looked at the vampires around us. "All except Edward, cover your ears." I said. They hesitated but did as told. I cleared my throat and rolled my shoulders. I then began to sing.

"Hear my voice beneath the sea,

Sleep now so peacefully.

At the bottom of the sea,

Sleep for all eternity."

Edward has a dazed look in his eyes. Bella was concentrating while covering her ears. I decided to keep going.

"Sailors live so restlessly,

Come with me, sleep peacefully.

Listen to this siren's song,

Worry not for nothing's wrong.

Let my voice lead you this way,

I will not leave you astray.

Trust me as we reach the side,

Jumping out where men have died!"

Edward eyes widened and he blinked a couple of times. I smiled and stopped using my gift. "Good job Bella, but next time it needs to be quicker because if it was any longer Edward would be soaking wet because I would have made him jump into a lake." Bella nodded.

"Yeah, yeah. I'll make you jump in a lake." Edward teased. I stuck my tongue out at him.

"What was that gift?" Kate asked curiously. I was about to answer until David answered for me.

"It's called the Gift of the Siren. It's very rare."

"I could have answered for myself you know." I said.

"I know." He laughed a bit. He then turned to Kate. "Me and my sister are a team you see. She uses her beautiful voice to lure in our prey and I-"

"And he uses his marvelous shadows to crush them." I finished for him. He gave me a look. "Not so nice is it?" I asked teasingly. He rolled his eyes.

We soon headed inside. Apparently, I couple of girls from the Amazon came. They had the power of illusion, which I thought was badass. I haven't seen Alice or Jasper all day though. I wonder where they could be? I shrugged and headed to my room for light reading.

But I could not focus to save my immortal life. I kept thinking about Alice's vision. Will I really find her? Oh, I hope so. Don't get me wrong, I'm a very independent person, but I have been wondering about my mate for a while now. I'm just hoping that she's a Vampire and not a human. I couldn't end her life. I sighed and closed my book. I knew that I wasn't going to be able to read tonight so I put it beside me.

I decided to head to Edward's place, just to see what he was doing. I made my way there and knocked on the door to their cottage. Bella opened the door. "Oh... hey Melanie." She greeted.

"Hey, can I come in?"

"Yeah...." She said, stepping aside so I could come in. I nodded to her and looked around for a bit.

I entered. It was a nice house, not to fancy nor to plain. I sat on the couch. "So.... how do you know Edward?" She asked, after a moment of silence.

"Carlisle. Me and my brother were here first and then Edward came. I think he was intending for Edward to be my mate but he really didn't understand how the whole mate thing worked. And besides, it wouldn't work out anyway."

She furrowed her eyebrows. "Why?"

"I'm gay." She made and 'O' shape with her mouth.

"That's cool."

I shrugged. "I guess it is."

We sat there in awkward silence. "Um, I should go. See ya later Bella." I said and rushed out the door before she could respond.
