At the farmhouse Hershel was checking Carl's pressures once again. "He's still losing blood faster than we can replace it. And with the swelling in his abdomen we can't wait any longer. Or he's just going to slip away like Raven, but I won't be able to bring him back. Now I need to know right now, if you want me to do this, because I think your boy is out of time. You have to make a choice." Hershel explained as urgently as he could.
"A choice?" Lori said to him.
"A choice. You have to tell me what it is." Rick asked Lori. She reached up and held her husband's face.
"We do it." She said looking into Rick's eyes. Rick pulled her into a tight hug and Hershel prepped for the surgery. They had placed Carl on a metal table with the surgical equipment next to him.
"Rick, Lori, You may want to step out." Hershel told them. That's when the sound of a truck stopping came through and everyone rushed out to see who it was. They had left Patricia to make sure Carl didn't slip away while they went out to get the supplies Otis and Shane had brought back. Shane pulled up to the house and rushed to the step with two big backpacks full of stuff they needed.
"Carl? Raven?" Shane asked, limping towards the group.
"There's still a chance." Rick told him as Shane handed the bags to Hershel.
"Otis?" Hershel asked and Shane looked at him with sadness and shook his head.
"We say nothing to Patricia. Not till after. I need her." Hershel told everyone before running into the house. Rick hugged Shane who was still in shock.
"How is Raven?" Shane asked Rick.
"She's bad. Daryl said he was her blood type but he stayed back because of Carol. Hershel said he's not sure if she'll make it through the night. But she's tough, she has been through worse, you and I know that." Rick told him, pulling out of the hug. Shane was still in shock over losing Otis.
"They kept blocking us at every turn. We had nothing left. We were down to 10 rounds. Then he said...he said he'd cover me and that I should keep going. So that's what I did. I just...I kept going but I...I looked back and he...I tried." Shane told Rick trying to cover his own ass.
"He wanted to make it right." Rick told Shane trying to keep him calm. Shane looked over at Maggie who was crying as Lori tried to comfort her. Shane walked past everyone and up the stairs to his sister. He walked into the room and felt his heart drop. He walked over to the chair that sat next to her bed. He stared at his sister, her once golden tan skin now basically white. Her hair was a ratted mess and she had blood pooling around her abdomen.
"Sis. Baby." He whispered, reaching out to her and brushing some hair off her face. "Please, hang in there. I can't lose you. You're my best friend. You're the love of my life. I know you've been through a lot and I know you're strong. You can beat this, you have to beat this." He said holding onto her hand and leaning his head onto her chest.
"I miss you Raven." He said before drifting off to sleep. He was woken up by Maggie coming into the room to check on Raven.

"Rick and Lori are outside if you want to go wait for my dad to talk to them about Carl." Maggie told Shane he nodded, kissed his sisters head and went outside. About 30 minutes later Hershel walked out of the house. Everyone jumped to their feet.
"He seems to have stabilized." He told Rick and Lori. They both let out sighs of relief at the good news. Rick hugged Hershel as a thank you.
"I don't have words." Lori said with tears of happiness falling from her eyes.
"I don't either wish I did. How do I tell Patricia about Otis?" Hershel said now worried about how she would react.
"You got to Carl. I'll go with Hershel." Rick told Lori as they went into the house. Shane lipped closely behind. Hershel and Rick told Patricia about the loss of her husband. She almost fell to the floor struck with grief but Hershel and Rick caught her. She sobbed loud enough for the whole house to hear. Lori sat at her son's side crying when Shane walked in.
"Stay." She said almost in a whisper but, loud enough for him to hear. Shane had been planning on leaving and not coming back, no one knew except Lori and Andrea. Shane looked at Lori almost shocked by her words but he nodded slightly to let her know he would stay. Shane left the room and ran into Maggie.
"The bathrooms upstairs. I brought you some clothes." Maggie said, handing a pile of clothes to Shane.
"Thank you." He told her, gently taking them from her.
"They won't fit well, they were Otis's." Maggie said with a sad smile and walked away. Shane lipped back up the stairs to the bathroom. Shane stared at himself in the mirror noticing a new bald spot. He started to have flashbacks, of earlier that night.
"How many rounds have you got left?" Shane asked Otis as they both lipped through the school yard trying to get away from the hundreds of walkers that were after them.
"Four. You?" Otis asked back.
"Five and one in the pipe." He told Otis, dragging him along. They both had sprained ankles and with Otis being winded from 5 minutes of running it was making getting away from the walkers hard. They both had used up almost all of their round except for Shane. He had one more shot, but the walkers kept coming and there was no stopping them.
"Down to my last." Otis told Shane.
"Me too." Shane said to him.
"I'm sorry." Shane said, causing Otis to give him an odd expression. With that Shane shot Otis in the leg and tried to grab the backpack of supplies away from him.
"Give it to me...Give it!" Shane yelled trying to rip the bag from Otis.
"I'll kill you." Otis said though his agony gripping onto a large chunk of Shane's hair. Shane kept punching Otis trying to get him to let go. Then Otis aimed the gun that Rick had loaned him at Shane. Shane blocked it letting the bullet wiz somewhere into the night. Shane ripped the gun from Otis's hands and started to pistol whip him but Otis held firm onto Shane's hair.
"Let go of me! Let go!" Shane yelled, ripping his head out of Otis's grip causing him to rip off part of his hair. Shane grabbed the bags and ran as fast as he could leaving the man to be ripped apart by the undead. All Shane could hear as he lipped away was the sounds of Otis's screams and flesh being torn off. Shane shaved his head down to a buzz cut to hide the patch of ripped out hair. He looked at himself in the mirror now not recognizing the man that started back at him. He got into the shower and watched all the dirt and walker blood fall down the drain.

On the RV Carol and Dale were waiting for Daryl and Andrea to get back from their walk. Carol saw them come back without her daughter and she started to cry again and went back inside the RV. Dale saw them and got off the RV. Daryl gave Dale a soft smile and then went into the RV.
"Andrea wait." Dale said to Andrea before she got into the RV.
"What do you want, Dale?" She asked him with a lifetime's supply of sass.
"To give you this. I care about you so I made a choice for you...choices. I know why I did it, but this is not my gun. And the choices that I made for you were not mine to make." He said, handing her gun back to her. She took it, giving him an unsure look and reluctantly took the gun from him.
"But, I can still ask, and this is not to make you guilty or put me ahead of you, but I can still ask, please... don't make me regret this." He told her after handing her the gun.
"I'll take watch." She said walking to the ladder on the back of the RV.
"So do you forgive me for...Do you forgive me?" Dale asked her to say yes she forgives him for making her choose choices that she didn't even want to make.
"I'm trying." She told him giving him some hope and with that she climbed to the top of the RV and kept watch. The next morning everyone at camp woke up early to head to the farm. They set out some food and water for Sophia in a car. They wrote on the windshield 'Sophia stay here we will come back everyday.' And with that they drove off to the farm Daryl leading the group.
The next morning everyone at the farm gathered rocks for a funeral for Otis. There was nobody there so that was the next best thing. They were all pulled away by the sound of a motorcycle approaching the farm. They looked over and saw it was the rest of the group. Hershel was inside checking on Carl and Raven.
"Fever's gone down." Hershel told Lori and Rick and just then the boy started to stir.
"Baby?" Lori said sitting on the bed next to the boy.
"Carl?" Rick asked, leaning over his son as he slowly opened his eyes.
"Sophia?" Carl asked with a hoarse voice. After being shot and almost dying the boy still cared about others before himself.
"Is she okay?" He said looking at his dad.
"Fine. She's fine." Rick lied to his boy knowing if he told him differently his son wouldn't get the rest he needed.
"Rest. We'll be right here, okay?" Lori said to Carl and he nodded, said okay and fell asleep.
"As for Raven. I'm surprised she even made it through the night. But, she won't last much longer, her fever has spiked and she's still losing too much blood." Hershel told them standing up. Just then T-dog rushed into the room.
"They're here." He said, referring to the rest of the group. They all parked up on the front lawn of the house.
"How is he?" Dale asked
"He'll pull through, thanks to Hershel and his people." Lori told Dale.
"And Shane. We would have lost Carl if not for him." Rick said to the group.
"And Raven?" Dale asked, Lori turned to face Rick.
"She might as well be dead." Shane said, looking at Daryl.
"Shane. She's in really bad shape. Hershel said he was surprised she made it through the night." Lori said, cutting Shane off.
"Where is she?" Daryl asked.
"Inside." Lori said. Maggie stepped towards him.
"I can take you to her." Daryl nodded and followed Maggie inside the house. The whole group hugged their friends as the two made their way to Raven.
"Why didn't you come yesterday when I told you?" Maggie asked Daryl as they reached her room.
"Couldn't leave that little girl out there." he said, waiting for her to open the door.
"You know she could have died. When I came and told you and your group in the woods. You were the only one that looked scared of her being dead." Maggie told him. He didn't say anything so Maggie opened the door. Raven was on the bed, her skin glossed in sweat. The sheets were basically all red now from how much blood she had lost. Daryl looked at the girl and felt his heart sink.
"We had to revive her twice last night. My dad was sure she wasn't going to make it but she's strong. Her fever spiked again early this morning meaning she's dying. Dad isn't sure if he will be able to save her. And with the amount of blood she needs. She might not make it through the surgery even with all the equipment we have." Maggie said while grabbing a cloth and dapping her forehead.
"Can I be alone with her?" Daryl asked and Maggie nodded.
"I'll be right outside if you need anything." She said and then left the room closing the door behind her. Daryl slowly walked over to her and sat in the chair next to her bed. He pulled the chair closer to the bed as stared at the girl he was slowly falling for. Her black inked tattoos showed a lot more on her now white skin. He reached his hand out and touched her face. Her skin was like fire against his.
"Raven. I'm sorry I didn't come sooner. I'm here now." He said, holding the girl's hand. Just then Hershel came into the room.
"Are you the boy with her blood type?" He asked Daryl and all he could do was nod.
"Good now. Get ready because I need to get bullet fragments out of her abdomen and she's going to need a lot of blood." Hershel told him to pull in all the surgery equipment. Patricia walked over to him.
"I need your arm. This might sting a little." She said as Daryl gave her his arm.
"I doubt that." He said and she stabbed into his arm setting up the transfusion stuff they placed another IV type thing into Raven.
"Okay now whatever you do. Do not move. Whatever you hear, do not tell me to stop once I start this I cannot stop. Especially if I want to save her life." Daryl nodded at Hershel and he started. As he was pulling out fragments Raven's screams filled the room. She wasn't moving because of the drugs they gave her but, it sounded like someone was murdering her. After about an hour Hershel put the final stitches into Raven and Patrica pulled the transfusion out of Daryl's arm.
"Is she gonna be alright?" Daryl asked Hershel.
"We will see." He said leaving the room. Daryl looked at her and leaned down and kissed her head. "Hang in there my little bird. I dunno how I'm gonna go without ya." And with that he left the room to join the rest of the group. They had moved the whole camp down to the lower edge of the yard per Hershel's request. It had been a few hours since Hershel operated on Raven and she was finally starting to wake up.

The Last Journey
A slice of life litrpg story... or is it? It's burning slow, though. Moving on: War comes with a great cost. Lives and time wasted for most part. One could either be run with sword, be poisoned, be bowed, and sometimes meet their end with just a tiny speck of wood. With magic, it becomes even more colorful. From lightning, to worse poison, to hovering rocks, to weird bladed leaves, to whipping roots, and to a lot more odd things easily reasoned with magic. A wonderful creation. But once used to something more than wonder, more than tricks to gather laughs, it becomes worse. War becomes worse. For there is not only blood to be spilled. A particular town almost met the same end. Soldiers geared with swrords and bows came with mounts. Horses burning lush grasses as it cracked boulders and the soil alike with every step. The kind that only war ones could ever do. Even strange wheeled creations that oozed danger were towed, loaded with something meant to destroy. But not once had they acted upon what such devices should've done, nor what an an army is supposed to do. Siege never occurred, as much as a command to war. No. Magic existed so a simple little fire is all the worth the town has. No sword drawn, no arrows nocked, nothing. Just some mana spent and through the ash they march. That was how Nudius saw her end. It came not even as a surprise. She didn't have the moment to fully register what occurred before she found herself in an empty dark space. Life lost, time spent. All from a fire that had not even touched her. But she knew very well that it was magic. Something she wished to have and strived for to have. Yet it seemed that none of it would matter now. Nudius was well aware of what the color around meant, of the odd situation, of the unfeeling state of her being. It was death and that was it. She didn't have to worry or dream further. Although there wasn't what she truly wanted in what death to her is, but at least, Nudius was comforted to what she believed death is. Rest. But little did she know there's something more than that empty space. It wasn't only the promise of rest, but was also more than she could ever hope for. Another chance at life. Another chance to dream. ***Tags are there just in case. You never know! Umm... HI-MI-TSU. Story blurb+: This is slow burn, quite slice of life story about a girl learning magic.
