Mal, Evie, Jay, Carlos, and I walk towards our next class.
All of us, except Mal, looked around, noticing that all the girls are looking at Jay.
I also noticed that Mal is staring at nothing, maybe stressing about the cotillion and all her princess stuff.
I sighed, not realizing that Carlos had intertwined my fingers with his.
"Hey, what are you thinking?" Carlos asked from next to me.
I smiled at him and shook my head.
"It's nothing, don't worry about it."
He nodded and went to talk to Jay.
I looked down.
It was actually about him and Jane again.
Speak of the devil...
I glared at Jane's incoming figure as the others just talked away.
"Oh, Mal!" Jane walked over to us.
"Hey, Jane!"
Carlos immediately let go of my hand and faced her, making me glare harder.
She noticed my stare and gave me an uneasy smile.
"I was wondering, uh, if you liked... the carrot cake, last night?"
Was he about to ask her to the cotillion?!
No, just calm thy self, (Y/N). He's your Carlos, he wouldn't like Jane more...
Right?
"I had the pumpkin pie." Jane said with a smile, making me roll my eyes at her.
"Oh! Cool, um--"
"Smooth."
I heard Jay whisper to Carlos as he dragged him away from us.
Evie cut in to say, "I have an opening for fitting at 3, who wants-"
"Me!"
Lonnie cut her off, standing slightly pushing Jane to the side.
Lonnie then looked at Jane and apologized.
"Perfect! I'll fit you later." Evie said as she dragged Lonnie.
Jane then turned to Mal and I.
"I hate to keep bugging you but the decorating committee needs more answers. So as much as I hate to, um, you know, um..." She trailed off, not wanting to annoy the purple loving girl.

"Bug her? Well, you already-- Ouch!"
Mal slapped my shoulder making me stop what I'm going to say.
"Jane, I'd love to. I just have to get to class." Mal said as we started to walk away but Jane stopped us.
"You know, just." She persisted, making Mal forced to agree.
Jane showed her everything that she already picked for the cotillion.
"And you still haven't pick the party favors yet."
"Honestly, Jane--"
Jane cut Mal off by continuing to say the choices.
Mal's eyes turned green, making her stop talking.
I guess that what happens when she's stressed.
"I say pen toppers." Mal said with a fake smile.
I saw Evie and Lonnie come back to where the three of us are.
"I can hardly wait to see what your wedding would look like." Lonnie said, as she stood next to Jane.
"Me too." Mal replied as she stared at the ground then shot her head up in realization.
"Wait what?!"
"The royal cotillion is like getting engaged to be engaged to be engaged!" Jane explained, making Mal and I look at eachother in shock.
"I knew it!" "Well, everyone knows it!" Lonnie and Evie said.
"I didn't know it!" Mal and I said in unison.
"How can nobody tell me that? Is my entire life--"
"Hey Mal!"
She was cut off by Ben, making the two of us turn to him.
"Hi Ben." Evie, Jane, Lonnie, and I greeted.
"Oh oh, one quick moment!"
Jane dragged Ben to the side to ask him about something.
Maybe it's his surprise for Mal?
Evie and Lonnie walked away once again, but I stayed next to Mal.
We shared another look and I said, "Don't worry, you'll get your relaxation soon."

"I hope..." Mal replied as we were about to walk away.
"I'll see you later."
Ben turned around to us and Mal nodded, "Okay."
We walked down the stairs when she said, "So! I noticed you spend more time with me than your boyfriend."
I forced a smile on my lips as I turned my head to her.
"Don't you want my company?"
"Well, I do. I actually needed it because you're the only one I can talk to without talking about the cotillion. I just noticed the space you two are currently having." She replied with a concerned smile.
I looked down at the ground and said, "It's because he spends more time with Jane than me even though Jane and I are equally busy and stressed over the cotillion. He hasn't even asked me to be his date! And I'm his girlfriend!"
Mal frowned at me and rubbed my shoulder.
"But I think you're the most stressed between the two of us." I added, slightly laughing.
She chuckled.
"It's equal. Hey, uh, do you have something after class?"
"Yeah. Fencing practice, I'm the assistant coach remember? But I think I can join you at that thing you were about to tell me."
The both of us laughed.
"Okay. See you then."
"Yeah, see you."
After that, I walked towards the fencing room where I guess the boys are already at.
I hope Carlos ask me soon, and not Jane.

Apex Immortal: a LitRPG system rampage
"Across the multiverse where the contest for power is the only constant, only a handful have succeeded in reaching the ultimate heights of ascendency and gained the title Apex Immortal. Dominus is one of them, unsurpassed in overwhelming violence, feared across universes. Now, memories locked and stranded far away from everything he’d built, Dominus will face enemies that will challenge even his powers and discover that change is more difficult than destruction." I’ve been writing fiction on and off for the last decade and I’ve always wondered how a peak immortal (or an OP superhero) would single handedly conquer a world that mirrors our own in all of its complexity. As a politics nerd, this is my attempt at answering that question using Machiavelli’s “The Prince” as the primary playbook. The “monsters” are entire political systems with entrenched culture. Expect many versions of real world political systems (and cultures) to be on the hit list. The MC has to successfully institute regime and cultural change without engaging in wholesale genocide and causing the state to fail. Expect things to go wrong pretty quickly as escalating and cascading political and economic effects rapidly go out of control. Methods deployed are not for the faint hearted.
