Jay was a wreck the entire day. He had just about every symptom of a severe concussion: dizziness, fatigue, nausea, and a sensitivity to light. The curtains were shut and the room was nearly pitch black save for a lamp being turned on.

"Okay Dracula, are you ever going to go to the hospital? You really ought to," I said while stroking Jay's dark hair. His head lay in my lap but he was awake. I felt him shake his head.

"Nope. I will not. I'm fine."

"No you aren't."

"Holy fuck stop nagging," Jay looked up at me. "Sorry."

I rolled my eyes, even though he couldn't see. "Do you want more water?" I eyed the empty glass on the nightstand.

"Uh, yeah actually. I'll be right back." He started to get out of bed.

"I'll get it for you, Jay."

"No Alina, it's fine. You've done so much for me already."

Which was true, although I didn't mind it one bit. As convoluted as it was, I kind of enjoyed being doctor and taking care of Jay.

"Plus," he continued. "A friend is coming over soon to get something of hers. I need to get up anyways. She'll be here any minute."

I raised a brow as he got out of bed. "What friend?"

Jay opened the curtains and we both recoiled at the light that had so suddenly flooded in. He wasn't feeling well, but still looked good. He was clad in only a pair of boxers and I could see almost the entirety of his toned, tan body.

"Like what you see?" Jay had noticed that I was staring. "Although I think it's inappropriate to be ogling someone who's unwell."

A blush immediately crept onto my cheeks, but then I scowled. "Nobody is ogling you."

"Hi Nobody, I'm Jay," he stuck his hand out to shake mine.

I wanted to slap him, but then I watched as the smile disappeared from his face and he winced. "That light actually really fucking hurts, why'd I do that?"

"I wish I knew."

He then closed the curtains, only allowing a sliver of light to make its way into the room. Jay then put on a pair of grey Nike sweatpants and a black t shirt.

"I'm sorry to ruin your view," he turned to me. "It's like putting a tarp over the Mona Lisa."

Even while concussed he was still a cocky asshole. But I liked it.

"I don't know, I'd say it's more like covering up an ugly old couch before moving out."

"So you think I'm an ugly old couch?"

"Precisely."

Jay grinned. "You're the sweetest." He then cupped my face and gave me a quick little kiss on the lips, which spawned butterflies in my stomach.

I heard his phone vibrate on the nightstand. "That's her. I'll be right back." He reached into the bottom drawer of his dresser and pulled something out before rushing downstairs.

Who was this friend?

I decided to go follow. He never said it was going to be a private conversation.

"Why are you following me?" he suddenly turned around once he reached the base of the stairs.

I jumped instinctively, but I couldn't say I was surprised. I wasn't exactly being stealthy—I literally had just followed him downstairs a few moments after he had left.

"I'm going to get water."

"You just want to spy on me."

"So what are you and this friend of yours going to be doing that's so secret that I can't see?" I crossed my arms.

"I'm peanut butter. Guess what you are?"

"What?"

"Jelly."

"I can assure you I'm not jealous. I was only curious."

"It's really nothing, just go upstairs, Alina."

"No."

"Yes."

"Make me."

He looked over to me and scowled. "Why are you such a pain in the ass?"

I shrugged.

"I'm gonna come over there and lock you in the basement so you shut up."

"Come here and do it."

Jay looked like he was about to take me up on that when we heard the doorbell ring. He groaned and looked over at me before went over to open it.

I met a familiar pair of hazel eyes. It was Mandy, the girl from the party when I had first gotten here. She was the one who stood by as that guy groped me. I saw as recognition settled over her features. She then rolled her eyes.

I was tempted to go back upstairs to avoid her but she had already seen me. Plus I wanted to know what her and Jay had to work out at this moment.

"Hi Jay," she pulled him into a hug. I noticed that he didn't hug her back and pulled out of it quickly. "How are you doing?"

"I'm alright," he ran a hand through his dark hair. "How are you?"

"I'm good, I haven't seen you in a while. Well, not that long, but I think we should hang soon." She then looked up at me on the staircase. "What's she doing here?"

"Alina is staying with us for the whole summer."

"Have you never heard of the term 'overstaying your welcome?'" she was now speaking to me.

I didn't even know what to say back.

"Leave her alone, Mandy." Jay spoke up, clenching his jaw.

She rolled her eyes. "Whatever. Can I have them now?"

I watched as Jay handed her something. "Goodbye Mandy."

She looked up at me and then at Jay. She then held up what he had handed her. A lacy thong. My mouth flew open—I couldn't even help it.

"Thank you for holding onto these for me! And you washed them! Such a sweetheart. Goodbye Jay." she smiled one last time before waving and heading out.

Jay turned to me and sighed. "Do you see why I wanted you to stay upstairs?"
