I woke up fairly early, as I had also gone to sleep fairly early. Jay's parents go to work at seven, and it was seven thirty, so they were gone by now.

I walked downstairs into the kitchen and tried to decide what to eat for breakfast. I wasn't too hungry so I ate an apple and tossed the core in the bin. Buddy had been home all night, except his presence wasn't known, as he was sick and on medication that made him drowsy. I still didn't know what happened, but I had a feeling it wasn't my fault after all.

As I walked back to my room, I walked past Jay's room. He was shirtless, and doing push-ups on the floor. I was hoping that I could slip past his room unnoticed, but I had no such luck.

"Hey Alina." He smirked, and stood up. I saw the way his muscles contacted beneath his skin as he stood upright, and came towards me.

I could feel my face turning red. "Hey." I mustered. In that moment my phone buzzed in my back pocket. It was from Erin.

"I actually don't wanna be friends with you anymore. I heard the stuff you said about me. Btw Griffin doesn't like u anymore. Lost 2 ppl at once. And also he's mine now. Don't talk to me again. Lol bye."

I read this over and over until the words blurred together. I must've looked strange standing there in the doorway like that, but all I could focus on were the words from my best friend. Or ex-best friend.

"Alina, you okay?" Jay strode over to me. I tried my best not to cry, but tears slipped out and rolled down my cheek.

"What happened?" He said, concern in his voice. His grey eyes gazed into mine intently, before looking down at my phone. He scanned it quickly, and I presumed that he was a fast reader.

"What a bitch." He said. "What happened?" With that, be pulled me into his chest. He smelled good, especially since he just finished working out. I couldn't help but think that I was being too dramatic. My head rested against his chest, as he towered over me.

"What is she talking about?"

"I-I don't even know." I said. "I d-didn't say anything!" I said. I hated this. I had to admit the Griffin part fazed me too, but I was ending the relationship with my best friend. They were there and I was here. I can't even do anything when I'm stuck in Greenwich.

"I suck at advice." He began. "But know it's not your fault and if she wants to drop you so easily then it wasn't a friendship worth having."

I couldn't help but admit that what he said was true. "I guess." I said quietly.

"It'll all play itself out. Don't worry."

"The thing is, I'm here and they're there. I'm away from everybody, and by the time I come back I'll have no friends." I sobbed. "I know what she's like. She'll make sure of it."

"Well guess where we're going next week." Jay said.

"Huh?" I looked up.

"Texas." He grinned.

I still couldn't believe what came out of the Von Barons' mouth when Jay asked to go to Texas.

"You can go."

My jaw dropped, and I'm pretty sure Mr. Von Baron noticed, as he chuckled and looked back at his son.

"I don't really trust you though."

"We'll be fine." Jay said. He chewed his lip, which is something I noticed that he did when he was nervous. Him and his dad talked for more. I acted like I wasn't listening from the top of the stairs. I decided I should walk back to my room for a bit. When I came out I did just on time, and I couldn't help but feel my heart pound when he finally agreed.

"Okay. Fine. Don't let anything happen to Alina though."

"I won't."

After the brief convincing, Jay and his dad established all the details for the trip. We were going to take the plane, but I didn't have enough money for first class, which is what Jay told me we'd be taking.

"I don't have that much money with me." I said. Compared to him, I was poor as a church mouse.

"Are you kidding me?"

"Alina, don't be foolish! We can pay for you." Mr Von Baron said.

I shook my head. "Thank you, but I can't let you do that."

"I insist."

After a lot more convincing then it took to go on a plane by ourselves, I let Mr. Von Baron pay for my ticket. I felt uneasy, though, as the ticket was expensive. They definitely could afford it, but buying me a plane ticket wasn't part of the deal when they agreed to let me spend the summer.

I was excited, yet I also dreaded going back. Everyone knows I'm supposed to be away for the whole summer. People will either judge me, or think I'm a liar. Well, my friends will be excited. Unless Erin already managed to turn them against me.

We managed to find tickets for a flight next Thursday. Let's hope Jay and I don't manage to fight until then.
