《Destroy Me (Book 1) A Supernatural Story》7- Man The Flashlight

Calliope decided to head back to Bobby's to let Sam and Dean get back to hunting, let them become brothers again. She had begun to look into these seals that Castiel had mentioned to her and Dean, but was getting nowhere. Dean had just called her, to tell her about the shape shifter that they just had to deal with one that enjoyed black and white horror movies, and was pretending to be Dracula. She had told them she wished she could have seen that, and he mentioned that he wished she had come along. It was a few days later when they get a call from Sam, about a case that they had picked up on. From what Calliope could over hear Dean had Ghost sickness, worry had grown in her at this news and she decided to focus on the boys, hoping that had happened the one time would happen once again. Calliope stood in her room, closing her eyes focusing on Sam and Dean, when she opened them once again and was standing right beside Sam, and Dean starts to scream.
"Where...where...where did you come from?" Dean says panicking.
"Dean, I can show up when I focus really hard remember, or when someone calls out for me" she says to him.
"Well, give some warning next time" he says to her.
"I can try, so ghost sickness" Calliope says to the boys.
"I don't even know what that is" Dean says to her.
"Okay, some cultures believe that certain spirits can infect the living with a disease, which is why they stopped displaying bodies in houses and started taking them off to funeral homes" Sam tells him.
"Okay, get to the good stuff" Dean says to his brother.
"Symptoms are you get anxious.." Sam tells him.
"Yeah" Dean says.
"Then scared, then really scared, then your heart gives out, sound familiar?" Sam says to him.
"Yeah, but Sam, we haven't seen a ghost in weeks" Dean says to his brother.
"Well, I doubt you caught it from a ghost. Look, once a spirirt infects that first person, ghost sickness can spread like any sickness through ac ouch, a handshake, whatever. It's like the flu, now, Frank O'Brien was the first to die, which means he was probably the first infected, patient zero" Sam tells his brother.
"Our very own outbreak monkey" Dean says.
"Right, get this, Frank was in Maumee over the weekend. Softball tournament, which is where he must have infected the other two victims" Sam explains.
"Were they gamecocks?" Dean aks.
"Cornjerkers" Sam tells him.
"So what, this Frank was infected by a ghost, and he passed it on to other victims, and let me guess Dean touched the corpse, and now he has it" Calliope asks Sam.

"Right" Sam says to her.
"So now, what, I have 48 hours before I go insane and my heart stops?" Dean asks.
"More like 24" Sam tells him.
"Super" Dean says starting to get shifty.
"Yeah"Sam tells him.
"Well, why me? Why not you? I mean, you got hit with the spleen juice" Dean says and Calliope chuckles.
"Yeah, um you see Bobby and I have a theory about that too. Turns out all three victims share a certain, uh personality type. Frank was a bully, the other two victims, one was a vice principal, the other was a bouncer" Sam says to him.
Dean looks at his brother confused, "okay"
"Basically they were all dicks" Sam tells him.
"So you're saying I'm a dick" Dean says to him.
"Well you kinda are" Calliope says.
"It's not just that, all three victims used fear as a weapon, and now this disease is just returning the favor" Sam tells him.
"I don't scare people" Dean says.
"Dean, all we do is scare people" Sam tells him.
"Okay, well then, you're a dick too" Dean says to him.
"Really Dean, Sam isn't really a dick" Calliope says.
"Whatever, how do we stop it?" Dean asks.
"We gank the ghost that started all this, we do that, the disease should clear up" Sam tells him.
"You thinking Frank's wife?" Dean asks.
"Who knows why she killed herself, you know? Hey, what are you doing waiting out here, anyway?" Sam asks his brother.
Dean looks up at the hotel, "our room's on the fourth floor" he tells Sam, who shakes his head as he looks up, "It's...it's high" Dean says.
"I'll see if I can move us down to the first" Sam suggest to him.
"Thanks" Dean says.
"Sure" Sam replies as he then goes to the hotel office, and Dean climbs into the Impala.
Once Sam gets the hotel room changed over, and adds an extra cot for Calliope, Calliope says she will stay with Dean, until Sam gets the answers he needs. Calliope sat on the bed, reading on Sams's laptop hoping to find something out about Ghost Sickness, while Dean say at a table with a book infront of him, reading as well. Out of nowhere Dean starts to cough, when he starts to react to something, "Dean are you okay?" Calliope asks him as he starts to panic, and he gets up and grabs the clock from the wall tossing to the ground. Calliope gets up and goes to Dean, "Dean..Dean..it's okay" she says to him.
"Yeah..I know" he quickly says to her.
"Go sit on the sofa, I'll get you a beer, Sam should be back soon" Calliope says to him, helping him to sit down on the sofa. Calliope then goes to the cooler, and grabs Dean a beer, opens it and then hands it to him.

"Thanks" he says taking it, his hand shaking a little. Calliope then turns to the broken clock, and starts to clean it up when they hear the door open to the motel room. Both of them look to see Sam enter, he sees her cleaning up the broken clock, and Dean on the sofa.
"Everything okay?" he asks them.
"Oh, yeah, just peachy" Dean replies.
"It's okay Sam, just a little incident, did you find anything out?" Calliope says as she puts the broken pieces into the garbage.
"Yeah, Jessie O'Brien body was cremated, so I'm pretty sure she is not our ghost" Sam tells her as they then see Dean scratching at his arm, "Hey, quit picking at that, How you feeling?" Sam ask his brother.
"Awesome" Dean blunty replies, "It's nice to have my head on the chopping block again. I almost forgot what that feels like" he tells them.
"Yeah" Sam says to him.
"It's freakin delightful" Dean then says.
"We will keep looking into this Dean" Calliope says to him, as Dean then starts to cough.
"You okay?" Sam asks his brother, as Dean stands up and continues to cough, "Hey!" Sam says worry in his voice. Dean then begins to make chocking noises, and makes his way to the bathroom sink, where he is gagging, and eventually coughs up what looks like a wood chip.
"We've been completely ignoring the biggest clue we have, you" Sam suddenly says once Dean is okay.
"I don't want to be a clue" he says to Sam.
"The abrasions, this, the disease, it's trying to tell us something" Sam says to Dean and Calliope.
"Tell us what, wood chips" Dean says to his brother.
"Exactly" Sam says to him.
After some research of the town, Calliope locates a lumber mill nearby and the three of them headed for it, Sam driving the Impala. As they pull up Calliope can sense the hesitation in Dean, "I'm not going in there" Dean says to the two of them.
"We aren't leaving you out here alone, Dean, you are coming along, plus you have me for protection, you are going to go in" Calliope tells him.
Dean then takes a drink from his flask, "Let's do this, it is a little spooky isn't it" he says as they all get out of the car. Sam, and Calliope go to the trunk of the Impala, and get out some shot guns loaded with rock salt, Sam goes to pass one to Dean, who steps back.
"Oh, I'm not carrying that, it could go off" Dean says as he then grabs a flashlight, "I'll man the flashlight" he smiles at the two of them.
"You do that" Sam says as he closes the trunk of the Impala.
The three of them make their way inside the lumber mill, as they do the EMF reader Sam had was going off like crazy.
"EMF 's not gonna work with me around, is it" Dean says to them.
"You don't say" Sam rolls his eyes at his brother, "Come on" he then says as they continue walking in the mill. Suddenly Sam stops, "Wait.." he says as he stops and picks something up, and Calliope sees that it's a ring, "To Frank, Love Jessie' Frank O'Brien's ring" he says to them.
"What the hell was Frank doing here?" Dean asks.
"No idea" Sam answers as they enter another room. It was filled with lockers, and they start to hear rustling. Sam goes to open one of the lockers, and a cat jumps out, and Dean lets out a scream.
Both Calliope and Sam look at Dean, "That was scary!" he tells them, as they start to walk away from him he calls out wait not wanting to be alone.
Calliope then notices something and picks it up, "Luther Garland" she reads off the ID card showing it to Sam.
"Hey, this is uh... this is Frank's wife" Dean says as he shows them a drawing on the table.
"Plot thickens" Sam says to his brother.
"Yeah, but into what?" Dean ask as Calliope tears off the drawing and places it in her pocket. Once she does that the machines start to turn on, and they all look around. Dean seems to be looking at both Calliope and Sam, a scared look on his face. As they both turn around to see what was scaring Dean now, they see an appartion.
"Hey!" Sam then calls out as they see Dean running away out of the mill. Calliope aims her shotgun at the spirit and shoots, using the rock salt to make it disappear.
"Let's see where the scaredy cat went" she says to Sam and they both leave the mill. They make their way out to the Impala, to find Dean hiding behind it, flask in his hand.
"Guess we found the right place" Sam says to them both. They both help get Dean back in the Impala, as Sam then drives away.

Apollyon's Curse
Within the pages of folklore and fantasy, tales of people who chase after the dream of eternity, of living forever, rarely find a happy ending. They are either struck by the grim truth of reality, give up, and return to mortality or face a ghastly realization of their wishes. The latter often the worse fate, as they come to realize, only far too late, that what they sacrificed was worth far more than the time they gained. Ultimately, the common thread in these stories is that “immortality is as much a curse as it is a blessing”. People either realize it early and give up or are doomed to inevitably face its consequences. In the world Enrich lives in, that saying does hold merit. Every pathway towards eternal life has shackles of its own. They bring those high above down to the ground, evening the playing field. It is thanks to these fundamental laws that ambitious mortals are able to defy the heavens and achieve immortality themselves. The variety of methods result in each of these bindings varying in intensity and degree of freedom. Enrich’s path doesn't break this trend. Though, after what he did to himself, most wouldn’t even consider him a living thing anymore. On the day of his ascension, a world’s worth of souls were melted and recast. On that day, the human’s path had reached its conclusion, recast into Apollyon. An artifact, a weapon, is eternal, after all. As for the curse? The payment will be made, as it must. So why not offload the curse to someone else? Mortals throw their lives away for all manner of petty reasons, noble or otherwise, especially in desperation. Eventually, someone will be willing to foot the bill. Most will if given the chance. The bait is far too tempting, after all. Power, status, knowledge. All at their fingertips. If only they say “yes”. And Apollyon is very willing to help any lost souls. If they give up everything in return, of course.

8 112True Insanity
Selfish. A tyrant. A madman. They called him many things but he ignored them. The man simply did not care what people thought of him. He did not care what they thought of the changes he was causing. He had one goal. And for that he was ready to ignore all morals. He would do anything for the betterment of humanity. He could only laugh when people who had once called him a genius and tried to make him use that genius for the sake of the world were now calling him insane for doing so. But when one tires of life, tires of fighting, ties of goals. The only thing left for him is to leave behind all that he has achieved thus far and move on. And so he did. But what lies after death? Was it heaven? Hell? Nothing? Or maybe... maybe it was just another life. If it was the fourth one... he hoped that this one would go easier on him.

8 606McShot's Crazy House: Many Stories in One Setting, It's an Anthology!
*This is my first time attempting to author on Royal Road and as such I cannot find a true series to write. Due to this, I will occasionally produce one shots or add on to existing one shots on this page. As such, do not believe too much of what I marked in the genre boxes. I will try and update as much as once a week but I procrastinate things like crazy so start out by hoping for by-weekly updates first.Welcome to McShot's Crazy House! I am Mr. McShot, the lord of this incredible house you are now residing in. In each door resides a different world with a different story. Of course, looking inside for too long may hurt your eyes so I will limit the amount of exposure. Plus there is food and magic aplenty. May there be something to your liking.
