white lies are the things we say

to salvage already broken things

to hold together what is falling apart

to protect each other's hearts

did you know what you were doing

when you decided to tell the truth

had you thought about what that might do

to someone whose relationship with hope

is crumbling

sometimes it is better to say no than

to give a maybe

because there are times when people

need closure and not another reason

to dream of possibilities

sometimes we all need a white lie
