I set a mouse trap on the floor, which was lined up with the other mouse traps. I let out a gasp when someone opens the door and steps on one of the traps, causing most of them to snap.
The lights turn and all of our heads snap to the person who stepped on the traps. "Oh, come on! Seriously?!" Caroline yells at Matt. "Do you know how long it took for us to set this up?!" she scoffs, crossing her arms.
My lips turn into a flat line, crossing my arms in the process. "Who's us? I did most of it." I give my blonde friend a look, and she half-heartedly smiles. "I did... some."
Tyler looks at Matt, who was still standing by the door, "Forgot about senior prank night, huh?" Tyler grins and Matt laughs. "Clearly."
"How could you forget?" Caroline frowns, "We've only been waiting for this since like freshmen year."
"Yeah Matt, If I'm doing this. You're doing this." my twin sister, Elena responds.
"I'm kinda surprised any of you are doing this." Matt raises an eyebrow. "Caroline is making us." Bonnie chimes in and I nod, agreeing with her.
"We're about to be seniors," Caroline cuts in, "these are the memories that stay with us forever, and if we don't—"
"—and if we don't create these memories, what's the point of it all?" Elena joins in Caroline's speech she made up awhile ago.
"Go ahead, make fun. I don't care." Caroline rolls her eyes.
"I agree with Care. Memories are special." I chime in and she looks at me with her light-filled eyes, smiling widely. "See, this is why you're my favorite twin."
"Hey," Elena pouts and threw a pencil at Caroline's head, "I'll have you know that she wouldn't have came if I didn't drag her here."
Caroline purses her lips and narrows her eyes at me. "Seriously?"
"Way to throw me under the bus, Elena." I roll my eyes, "And I was planning on going."
"You're all lame. And I've got ten more classes to prank." Tyler grabs his bag walks to the door, walking out.
Elena follows behind him. "Where are you going?" I question, stopping her with my voice.
She turns around to face us. "To superglue Alaric's desk shut." she answers before smirking. "I'm making memories."
"I love you!" Caroline yells after her and I watch my sister leaves the classroom. Caroline turns back to Bonnie and I. "Come on! These mouse traps aren't going to fix themselves." she retorts.
"Oh, do you hear that?" I ask and Caroline furrows her eyebrows. "Hear what?"
"Elena needs my help," I lie, wanting to leave this mouse trap mess. "I don't hear her and I'm the one with the vamp-hearing." Caroline replies and crosses her arms again.
"Exactly, Elena and I have this secret twin communication." I tell her and Bonnie rolls her eyes and starts to fix the traps.
"Whatever," Caroline scoffs and turns around, "go."
An innocent smile forms on my lips as I wave them goodbye before chasing after my sister. "Elena!" I call out, running up to her. "If I had to do those mousetraps again—"
"There's my girl!"
"Klaus," Elena gasps as she stares at the man in front of her. I take in a sharp breath, not expecting him to show up at this very moment. I started to feel nervous, my palms becoming sweaty.

I never met Klaus, and now I have. The only reason I haven't seen him person was because both Salvatore brothers wanted to protect me, which was complete bullshit.
All the rumors I've heard about him came rushing through my mind. He was supposed to be nothing more than a myth. The thought of his name brought people shaking, and here he is in front of my eyes.
Anger boils up inside me the second I processed his well-being. Aunt Jenna was rotting in the ground because of him, and now that he found Elena, I wasn't sure what he had planned.
Elena pulls my arm and decides to take a run. Klaus flashes in front of us, stopping us. "You're suppose to be dead!"
"What are we suppose to do about that?" he adds. I stand in front of my sister for protection, confidence building up inside of me. "You're not going to touch her."
"Well, aren't you a brave little thing." His eyes move to mine and he leans forward. "I wouldn't even try, sweetheart. I can hear your heart beating a million times per second."
My heart rate increases more and he smirks. He gets ahold of Elena and I, "You put a rather large kink in my plans. The whole point of breaking the curse and becoming a hybrid was to make more hybrids."
"I haven't been able to do that. Now my bet is, it has something to do with that fact that you are still breathing." he continues.
His grip on my wrist was tightening the closer he got to a certain set of doors. I try my hardest not to wince out in pain, to avoid making my current predicament worse.
"If you're going to kill me. Just do it. Please, just leave my sister out of it. She didn't do anything." Elena pleads, nodding her head toward me.
Klaus ignores her second statement. "Not until I know I'm right. But I do have my ways of making you suffer."
Klaus opens the doors that reveal into the gymnasium, where students sat to prepare their pranks. They barely noticed him walk in until he raises his voice.
"Attention, Seniors!" Klaus switches to an American accent and catches their attention, "You have officially been busted. Prank night is over. Head on home."
The students let out a loud sigh and walk out of the gym.
He loses his grip on my skin and steps closer to two of my classmates. I held onto my wrist to ease the pain, glancing at my sister but her eyes did not meet mine.
"You two," Klaus looks at Dana and Chad, "I remember you."
"I'm sorry who are you?" Dana asks him. "Oh, don't worry. I wasn't in my right head last time we met." he tells her, referring to when he possessed himself inside of Alaric.
"Lift your foot up please, Dana." Klaus compels her. "If she drops her foot, Chad, I want you to beat her to death." he compels the boy next to her. "Understand?" and Chad nods.
"Don't, Klaus, you don't have to hurt anybody." Elena pleads. "Oh, come on, love. Of course I do." he smirks.
Dana kept her balance on one leg, but it was clear how hard she's struggling. I close my eyes, unable to watch yet my ears caught onto every grunt she made. I sat on one of the bleachers, trying to think of a way to escape without dying.

My cellphone wasn't on me since I left it in one of the classrooms, and I mentally curse to myself. I never wanted to text my friends as badly as I wanted to do at this moment.
"Keep it up,"
"Where is Stefan? What did you do to him?" Elena asks. I was wondering too, considering Stefan left us to go with Klaus. "Stefan's on a time out."
The thought of Stefan brought pain to my chest. I hadn't seen him in a long time, and he was someone I thought about constantly. He risked his life to protect his brother and I will always admire him for it.
The gym doors slam open and close. Bonnie and Matt enter, rushing over to us. "Bonnie, get out of here."
Klaus speeds behind Bonnie and she spun around to face him with fiery eyes. "Ah, I was wondering when you'd show up." he grins, "Now we can get started."
Klaus glances at the two compelled teens. "Ah, Dana. Why don't you relax? You and Chad sit tight." he orders and they obey him, sitting down on the floor.
Klaus turns his attention back to Bonnie, "I assume you're the reason Elena's still walking around alive?"
"That's right. If you want to blame someone, blame me." Bonnie looks up at him with full confidence. I gulp, watching the scene unfold in front of me. I take mental note of how many times Bonnie protects my sister, and rarely gets anything in return.
"Oh, there's no need for blame, love. Just your witchy interference seems to have caused some undesirable side effects. And since you caused the problem, I'm going to have you find the fix."
"Get off of me!" someone growls and I snap my head towards the door. A blonde walks in with Tyler by her side.
"Hush now." she scolds him before letting go of him. "I'd like you all to meet my sister, Rebekah." Klaus tells us. "Word of warning—she can be quite mean."
"Don't be an ass." she scoffs and rolls her eyes. Klaus takes Tyler from his sister's grasp. "Leave him alone!" Elena yells.
"I'm going to make this very simple—every time I attempt to turn a werewolf into a vampire hybrid, they die during the transition." Klaus explains. "It's quite horrible, actually."
Fangs appear from his mouth, biting into his own wrist to force it onto Tyler's mouth. I widen my eyes, nearly trembling at the sight. "Oh, my God." I whisper.
"I need you to find away to save my hybrids, Bonnie!" he yells as Tyler tries to get out of his grip. "—and for Tyler's sake... You better hurry." With that, Klaus snaps Tyler's neck, causing all of us to gasp.
Klaus over to the bleaches and I get up, ready to walk over to Tyler and see if he's alive or not. Klaus grabs my arm and pulls me towards him. "Now, why haven't I seen you around?"
"Maybe because you've been running around keeping Stefan from us." I tell him, narrowing my own eyes at him. He raises his eyebrow, "Sharp tongue you got there, love."
I didn't say anything, only struggling to get out of his touch. He lets go of me and stares at me with an amusing smirk. I walk away from him, still feeling like he's staring at me from behind.
"He's dead." Matt frowns as I walk over to them. "He's not dead, Klaus's blood will turn him into a vampire." Elena reassures.
"And if Bonnie's successful," Klaus says jumping off the bleachers and walks towards us. "He'll live through his transition."
Rebekah follows behind him. "Go on, then. Go and fetch your grimoires and enchantments and what—not. I'll hold on to Elena and her sister, " He grabs our arms. "For safe keeping."
Bonnie wanted to refuse, but Elena have her a nod of approval and soon our friend left the gym with Matt by her side.
"So this is the latest doppelgänger... and you are?" Rebekah asks me, observing me. "Maya." I answer.
"Heh, I've heard about you. Maya Gilbert; the hunter. To be honest, I expected more from you." Rebekah says with a shrug.
I furrow my eyebrows, wondering how she found that out about me. I didn't have much skills yet as Alaric sparked my interest to protect myself from the creatures who want to harm me and my friends.
She turns her attention back to Elena. "The original one was much prettier." she says truthfully to her, causing me to shoot glares.
"Enough, Rebekah. Take the wolf boy elsewhere, would you?" Klaus asks her and she nods taking Tyler out of the gym.
"Just ignore her, petty little thing." he whispers to Elena. I slip my arm away from him once again and stumble over to my two classmates to help calm them down.
My head snaps to the direction of the door opening, and an old friend I didn't expect to see, walks right through the doors. "Stefan," Elena gasps.
It was a relief to finally see him again.
He didn't acknowledge her presence, as if he was pretending she wasn't there in the first place. I didn't pay attention to that, but merely on my friend who seemed different. "Klaus," he spoke up.
"Come to save your damsel, mate?" Klaus asks him.
"I came to ask for your forgiveness," Stefan says and my smile drops. "and pledge my loyalty."
"Well, you broke that pledge once already." Klaus tells him. "Elena means nothing to me anymore." Stefan claims, raising his voice a little louder.
I immediately knew he was lying straight through his teeth to get what he wanted out of Klaus. However, I know how long that man has lived and I can imagine how hard it is to fool him.
Elena seems to be taken aback by his words. I inch closer to my sister and grab her hand. "He doesn't mean it, Elena." I whisper in her ear.
"And whatever you ask of me... I will do." Stefan finishes off, his eyes locked on Klaus.
Klaus removes himself from the bleachers, "Fair enough. Let's drink on it." he grins, walking toward Dana and Chad to point at them. "Kill them."
I widen my eyes, letting go of Elena's hand to stare at him in shock. "No..." I say, my voice barely audible.
Dana and Chad stand up rather quickly. Their legs shake in fear, scared for what's about to occur next. Klaus looks at dumbfounded Stefan, "What are you waiting for? Kill them."
"No!" Elena gasps, "Stefan, don't."
I knew there was no use in protesting. Something tells me Klaus will do anything to get his way, no matter the collateral damage.
"He's not going to hurt me. He already said—Ahh." Klaus smacks her in the face. I crawl next to Elena, helping her. I glare at Klaus, who was looking at Stefan. "Bitch." I mumble.
(A/N "jerk." sorry i had to. carry on)
I glance down at my sister, pushing her hair away from her face. Stefan, livid, speeds over to Klaus to protect his girlfriend. However, Klaus puts his hand around Stefan's neck in order to stop him.
"She means nothing to you? Your lies just keep piling up." Klaus tilts his head. "Let them go! I'll do whatever you want, you have my word!" Stefan says while trying to get Klaus' hand off of his neck.
"Your word doesn't mean much. I lived by your word all summer, during which time I never had to resort to this—" he continues, "stop fighting." he tries to compel Stefan.
"Don't do this, don't do this." Stefan begs. "I didn't want to. All I wanted was your allegiance. Now I'm going to have to take it." the hybrid smirks.
"Don't... don't..." he whispers to Klaus. "You will do exactly as I say when I say it. You will not run, you will not hide, you will simply just obey." he compels him.
He lets go of Stefan's neck. "No!" Elena whisper yells. I just sit there in shock. "You can't do this." I retort. "Of course I can, love." he replies before looking at Stefan.
"Stefan." Elena soothes. "Now kill them, rippah!" he compels him and Stefan speeds to Dana and Chad, biting Dana first then Chad.
Dana's dead body now lays on the floor, blood pouring out of her neck. I sit there in shock, unable to move from my frozen state. "It's always nice to see a vampire in his true element." Klaus bends down near us, "The species has become such a broody lot."
"No. You did this to him." I glare at him and Elena looks at Stefan. "I invited him to the party, love. He's the one dancing in the table."
The gym door slams right open, causing a loud bang and for all of us to witness the intruder. "Where is it?!" Rebekah yells out loud, specifically toward my sister, "Where is my necklace?"
"What are you talking about?" Klaus asks her. "She has my necklace. Look." she hands him Caroline's phone.
"Well, well. More lies." Klaus sighs, clenching his jaw.
"Where... is it?" Rebekah asks my sister once more, getting infuriated. "I don't have it anymore." Elena answers truthfully.
Rebekah shook her head, "You're lying." I didn't get to process her movement when she speeds over to Elena and forces her fangs in her neck. I gasp, "She doesn't have it!" I tell her.
"Why? Do you have it?" Rebekah asked me as she pulls away. "No." I tell her. "Well, more lies." she speeds to me, about to bite my neck but she gets pulled away by her brother.
"Knock it off!" he yells at her. I look down at my shaky hands, but it was soon covered by Elena's. "Make her tell me where it is, Nik." Rebekah pleads, wanting her necklace desperately.
I didn't understand why Rebekah needed that necklace so badly. I was sure it was laced with vervain, so why would she want the detrimental thing in the first place?
Klaus steps closer to us and bends down. "Where's the necklace, sweetheart? Be honest." he calmly asks, but that facade didn't make me feel better.
"I'm telling the truth." Elena answers quickly. I nod and finish off her statement. "Katherine stole it." I reply.
"Katerina. Of course. Well, that's unfortunate." he sighs, getting up. "If we had the necklace it would make things a whole lot easier for your witch, but since we're doing this the hard way, let's put a clock on it, shall we?"
The buzzer buzzes when he makes his way over to the clock. "20 minutes. If Bonnie hasn't found a solution by then, I want you to feed again. Only this time," he turns to Stefan, "I want you to feed on Elena."
"You know you want to." he grins. "No, Klaus! Don't do this to him!" I say, getting up.
"No one leaves. If she tries to run, fracture her spine. And for her sister, if she leaves, there will be consequences." the hybrid said and leaves with Rebekah trailing behind him.

I pace around the gymnasium, trying to think of a plan. Nothing came to mind, of course. How am I supposed to run from a compelled ripper? Six minutes rang on the clock, making me more and more anxious.
Elena, with a napkin on her neck to stop the bleeding, starts to spit out ideas. "Caroline's dad! Stefan, he was able to resist compulsion. I—I don't know how, but he did it. Maybe it's possible."
"Yeah, Yeah. Maybe it's just mind control, right? Maybe it just takes some focus, a couple decades of training. No big deal." Stefan laughs sarcastically.
"Really wish I had the strength to snap your neck," I mutter quietly. Elena looks at him, "Stefan, you can control this. When that buzzer goes off, just—just drink from me."
"No, No. He doesn't have to kill you." I tell her. "You don't get it! I can't stop, Elena! I'm a ripper! A ripper doesn't stop!" he yells at her.
"I listen to the words that come out of your mouths, but all I hear is the sound of your hearts pumping blood through your body." he yells and I flinch slightly.
"And when that clock ticks down... I'm going to have to feed on Elena. And you want to know what's worse? I'm not going to be able to stop." he grumbles.
"I don't believe that. You can fight it. You just have to want it bad enough." she says "Why, because I love you?" he questions.
"Yeah!" she smiles lightly. "That's right, Stefan. Because you love me. You'll fight because after everything that we've been through, you owe me that." Elena says, her voice cracking.
"You know what, you're right. You're right. I owe you everything. Because through all of this, you are the one thing that has kept me from giving up; from turning it all off. But I can't help what I am, Elena. The more blood that I get, the more I want. And if I get so much as near yours... you are dead." he says to Elena. He turns to me, "And you."
All this talking distracted us from the time, and only sixteen seconds remained. I gulp, staring back at Stefan and got my feet ready to flee. "Elena and Maya, you're going to have to run." Stefan breathes heavily.
"But Klaus said that if we run—" I start but Stefan cuts me off. "I know what he said, but if you guys stay. It won't matter." he says looking at the clock.
"Guys, please, please, please. There's no other way." He falls to the floor, trying to prevent himself from attacking us. "There is another way, Stefan. It's for you to fight." Elena says, then the buzzer goes off.
"Stefan... I love you." she tells him. "Fight, Stefan. Don't give up."
"We don't have time for your love confessions, Elena! Let's go." I pull her hand with mine and start sprinting away.
"I can't hold it." he says getting up. "Ahh." My sister screams running out of the way. Stefan held onto a metal bar.

8 1617The Ascendant: Endless Reincarnation
My name is Richard Brooks. I died while saving a kid. Kicking the bucket at 28 was really depressing, you know? There’s so much I still wanted to do. But instead of passing on, I was thrust into an endless series of reincarnations. Whenever I die, I earn Karma points based on my achievements and growth. These points can be exchanged for weapons, spells, or other bonuses to make my next lives more interesting. “What kills me only makes me stronger!” Or something like that. Honestly, it feels like I’m stuck in an RPG. The difficulty setting can be pretty ridiculous too. Sometimes all I can do is grit my teeth in frustration as I die an ignoble death. But I won’t complain. Even when it’s dangerous and painful, I love life. This is all an opportunity; I’ll do my best, no matter what kind of sadistic fate the System throws at me. I will swing the warhammer of justice! Craft and enhance the most amazing artifacts! Overwhelm opponents with a barrage of auto-casting spells! Lead powerful vassals in Domain wars! All for the sake of creating an eternal sanctuary. With my unique power of Runecrafting, maybe I’ll even become strong enough one day to overturn fate… or at least find out what the hell is really going on. It might take a few hundred or a thousand lifetimes, but what’s the rush? I have all the time in the world now. (Note: R15+ This is the work of a very inexperienced author with a full time job. Please expect an erratic release schedule.)
