"I think we should call it a day." Sam said as I sipped on my water. "No, it's okay. I'm okay." I said as Colby wrapped a blanket around my shoulders. "We don't have to stay the night, Vi. It's okay. We still have the rest of the week." Colby said as daisy crossed her arms and watched me.
I couldn't stop thinking about what she said to Colby.
Were they talking about me? If they were, what did she say to him?
Why did I care so much? It's not like it mattered what she said about me. It wasn't like I cared what her thought about me.
Or maybe I did.
"Okay." I breathed out then looked up at Sam. "Can I see the footage?" I asked as she nodded and handed me the camera.
I zoned in on the footage, watching it carefully. For the first couple minutes it was totally normal, nothing I wasn't expecting but then it took a weird turn.
One minute Sam and I were looking through the medicine cabinets then the next second I'm just gone. It was almost as if I vanished into thin air.
"That's fucking creepy." I said as a shiver ran down my spine. "Yeah, whatever. I'm cold, can we go?" Daisy asked and rubbed her arms quickly as Colby crouched down to be eye level with me. "Are you sure you're okay?" He asked as I nodded. "I'm okay. Here Dais. You can have my blanket, since you're freezing." I said and smiled at her slightly, standing up with the blanket in my hand.
"Thanks, V." She said then put the blanket over her shoulders, hugging it close. "We'll go get the stuff if you guys just want to wait here." Sam said as I nodded, "okay, yeah. Just don't take too long, okay?" I asked, not particularly enjoying the darkness that was surrounding us.
"Are you okay?" I asked Daisy as she looked down. "I'm trying so hard to get Colby to like me, but I think he likes you." She said as soon as the guys were out of earshot. "Don't be silly, Dais. We just met yesterday, there's no way he likes me." I said and nudged her shoulder with mine.
"Are you kidding, Vi? He literally ran to your aid without any hesitation. He wouldn't do that for me." She said with a frown. "He's just a nice guy, he was worried. He would be worried about you if you were in the same situation." I said with a shrug as she looked up at me with a sad expression.
"You like him don't you?" She asked as my heart started pounding against my chest.
Did I?
It did feel nice having his arms around me, protecting me from the fear.
It did make butterflies appear in my stomach at the thought of him trying to kiss me.
Maybe I did like him.
"No, Dais. I don't even know him." I said as her face softened slightly. "Okay, that's good." She said as my heart sunk.

Why would it be a good thing for me to not like him? He was sweet, and obviously had some sort of attraction to me. Why would it be so wrong for me to like him?
"What did you tell him?" I asked, remembering what she had said earlier. She opened her mouth to say something but was interrupted by the guys coming back.
"Ready to go?" Sam asked as I nodded then started walking to the car. "Are you sure you're doing okay?" Sam asked as I nodded, "yeah, I'm already over it." I said with a shrug.
"Wait, actually?" He asked as we got to the car. "Yeah, there's really no use being afraid of something that wasn't real." I said as he chuckled. "Badass dude." He said and fist bumped me causing me to laugh.
The drive back to the hotel was silent, since everyone was tired. I knew I was going to spend the night tossing and turning since that would happen any time I even thought about my parents.
I knew what I saw was real, as in I knew it happened, but I knew that wasn't my mom.
I just knew it.
When we got to the hotel I grabbed my bag then walked to the trunk to help Sam. "Can we do the Ouija board tomorrow?" I asked as he looked at me with confusion.
"You still want to do the Ouija board?" He asked as I laughed, "well, yeah. Don't worry Golbach, I'm still fully in this ghost hunting shit. I don't scare that easily." I said as he grinned.
"Hey, Colby!" He called out causing Colby to turn towards us. "What's up man?" He asked as Sam grinned. "We picked the right girl." He said with a laugh.
I felt my heart start to race as Colby's cheeks lifted, creating these dimples that I never noticed before. I knew he was attractive, but right now....right now he had me swooning.
"I know." He said quietly then turned to grab his bag. "Daisy and I are just lucky that you picked us. This has been actually really fun so far." I said as we made our way inside.
"Even the part where you were literally traumatized my a ghost?" Sam asked as I nodded, "yeah, I mean...that wasn't the most fun, but it was at least an experience I'll never forget." I said as Daisy laughed, "you're crazy." She said as we got into the elevator.
"I just like this stuff, I don't know." I said with a shrug as we made our way upstairs. "I do too, but seeing your dead mom? That would be terrifying." Daisy said as I nodded.
"Especially because she literally decomposed in front of me but it wasn't her. I know it wasn't." I said as they all looked at me with concern. "Wait, you for real saw that?" Colby asked as I nodded.
"It was a trick of the mind...like yeah it looked like my mom, but it wasn't her. It couldn't have been.." I said then chewed on my lip as the door opened.

"Anyways, we'll see you guys tomorrow. Maybe we can meet up downstairs for breakfast." I said as we all got off of the elevator. "That'd be cool...put your number in my phone so we can keep in contact." Colby said and handed me his phone as Sam and Daisy walked down the hallway.
I put my number in then handed it back, "let me know if you need anything." He said then turned towards his door, "Goodnight, Vi. Night Daisy." He said then went into his room.
"God, he's so attractive." Daisy said then opened our door. I wanted to agree but didn't want to step on her toes again so I just nodded slowly and crawled into bed, not even bothering to get changed.
"Are you gonna be okay, Vi? I don't want you to be scared and acting all tough." Daisy said causing me to laugh. "No, I'll be okay. Let's just go to bed." I said as she climbed into bed. "Goodnight, V." She said as I turned off the light. "Goodnight, D." I said then pulled the covers up to my chin.
I couldn't sleep even if I tried.
My mind was racing, but not really from the events that occurred tonight. I couldn't stop thinking about Colby.
There was just something about him that was pulling me to him. I was sick of fighting it though. I might have just met him, but when I was around him it felt like our souls would melt together for just a little while.
I couldn't act on it though. Daisy likes him, he's meant to be with Daisy. Not me.
I groaned then got out of bed. I just needed to go on a walk to clear my head.
I quietly made my way to the door, grabbing my phone. I wouldn't be gone long, so I didn't bother leaving a note for Daisy.
I ended up walking to the little park that was next to the hotel. It was brightly lit, so it was moderately safe to be out here by myself.
I sat down on the swing set and looked up at the moon. "Mom? Dad? If you're hearing me, can you please just tell me what to do?" I asked quietly, closing my eyes.
I would talk to them from time to time, hoping that one day they would answer me.
"You shouldn't be out here alone." A deep but familiar voice said behind me. "You shouldn't be out here alone either." I said and turned as Colby came and sat on the swing next to me.
"I'm not, you're here aren't you?" He asked as I chuckled. "Yeah, I guess I am." I said with a shrug. "Why though?" He asked as I twisted my rings, "I couldn't sleep." I said with a shrug. "Me neither." He said as I nodded.
"Wanna talk about it?" Colby asked after a second of silence. "I just get restless when I think about my parents." I said as he frowned slightly. "How did they die?" He asked causing me to flinch.
I hated talking about it usually, but right now I just felt safe.
"You don't have to tell me if you don't want to." He said as I shook my head. "No...they were in a car accident. I was 16." I said as he sucked in a breath. "I'm so sorry, Vi.." he said as I looked up, "Why? You didn't hit them." I said with a dry chuckle.
"Because it's traumatic to lose your parents. Especially at a young age like that." He said as I sighed. "Yeah, it fucked me up for a while there..I've kinda learned to accept it though." I said then looked up at the sky.
"I just wish they would give me a sign that they're with me..I wish they could tell me they're okay." I said as I felt myself getting a little emotional.
"Is that why you entered the contest?" Colby asked as I looked over, "ya know, so you could try and communicate with them?" He asked as I shrugged.
"That's partially the reason. Daisy made me enter..she loves you and Sam a lot. I'm kind of a poser, since I'm not a hardcore fan." I said with a laugh as he grinned.
"You're not a poser." He said and nudged my shoulder with his. "Maybe not, but I definitely didn't deserve to win." I said with a laugh and brushed my hair behind my ear.
"Shut up, you deserve it just as much as anyone else. Can I be honest?" He asked as I shrugged, "it's encouraged." I said as he grinned. "I wouldn't have wanted us to pick anyone else." He said causing the butterflies to erupt in my stomach again.
"Why's that?" I asked as he stood up. "Well..you're not into this whole ghost thing because you think Sam and I are hot. You have a real reason to be here, and a real passion." He said and and pulled me up so I would be standing.
"You're also strong as fuck, like you handled that situation today like a pro. I would have shit myself." He said as we walked down to the little pond that was on front of us.
"Maybe Daisy's right, and I'm just a little crazy." I said with a laugh as he shook his head. "You're not crazy." He said and turned me so I was facing him.
I sucked in a breath as I took in his features.
They were perfectly illuminated by the moon, giving him an ethereal look.
"You're a lot of things, Vi." He said softly and cupped my cheek with his hand causing my heart to start beating out of my chest.
"But you're not crazy." He said then leaned in slowly, until his lips pressed against mine.
