《The Island's End- A Fortnite Story No.5》22 - The Last Stand

With Marigold, Astra, Ramirez and the rest of the island's people evacuated from the island Midas and Jules were left to fight off the Cube Queen's army. The two of them were sure they didn't stand a chance, but little do they know someone else is coming to drop in and help them.
"I'm starting to have second thoughts about this Midas." Jules admits, hugging his arm.
"I can understand that. I'm not sure if my power alone will be enough either."
"Are you sure we can trust the Foundation?" She asks.
Midas nods, a hand placed on her shoulder.
"Of course. The Seven's goal is the same as mine. Liberating the Zero Point and getting rid of I.O."
The two of them stand together staring at the pyramid looming in the distance, the Cube Queen's laughter faintly heard.
Suddenly, another voice shows up in the area.
The siblings jump and turn around. Dark Jonesy was there jogging over to them.
"Dark? I thought you were staying with the citizens of the island."
"What is it?" Jules questions.
Dark Jonesy cracks his knuckles, turns around and closes his eyes. His magic flickers near his fingertips while a blue square aura forms on the ground. Midas gets a sense of deja vu at the sight of it, remembering the way the Cube Queen was sealed away by Oro and Orelia years ago.
The snapshot grunts in concentration before raising his arms and a blue flash of light appears. Upon fading Midas and Jules could see the blue cube from the mothership forming into existence and creating an invisible barrier of energy around them.
"Woah! How'd you do that?!" Jules gasps in wonder.
Dark Jonesy chuckles, waving his hands like a magician with a cheeky smile.
"Excuse me. Blevin?" Midas asks, making sure he wasn't hearing wrong.
The snapshot snickers.
Midas sighs, a hand over his face.
"And I thought Jones' corny nicknames for me were dumb on occasion. Turns out his snapshots are just as bad."
All three look to the pyramid in the distance. Lightning was sparking at the top as the sky begins to grow dark, a beautiful orange sunset in the background. Midas could hear the Cube Queen laughing atop the Convergence.
"Here, Midas. Think you're gonna need this." Jules mutters, passing her brother something.
Midas is surprised when a golden drum gun lands in his hands. He looks to his sister for an explanation.
"My old drum gun. But...I thought I lost it when the remains of the Authority blew up last year."
"I thought so too. But when the Zero Point was on the island and you were reality hopping with Jones I managed to find it buried in the sand."
Jules smiles at her brother, an arm over his shoulder.
"I fixed up and made the fire rate a little faster. It even holds up to 50 shots now." She adds with a smile. "Do you like it?"
"Jules...thank you so much. It feels like I can handle it better too." He chuckles slightly, holding it tight and preparing to fire it.

Dark Jonesy tells them, pointing below them.
Cube monsters begin spawning left and right, charging towards them. Midas begins firing his drum gun, already feeling the intense upgrades Jules added to it.
Meanwhile she takes out an assault rifle and Dark Jonesy leaps into action, taking out the spear he 'borrowed' off the Cube Queen's deceased henchman.
As they continue to fight, the Cube Queen lets out a menacing laugh as she encases herself in a orb and fires a beam into the darkening sky.
"TRY ALL YOU WANT MIDAS!! THE LAST REALITY IS AT HAND!! NOTHING CAN STOP ME FROM DESTROYING THIS PATHETIC ISLAND YOU TRIED SO HARD TO PROTECT NOW!!"
Jules kicks away a cube monster that nearly tried to grab her only to notice something happening in the sky.
"Guys!! Look up!!"
Dark Jonesy and Midas look in that direction and gasp at the rip of reality through the sky. It opened up to reveal not one, not two...but hundreds of thousands of motherships, just like the one sent to the island a few months ago, and one GIGANTIC sized ship with a carving of the golden cube engraved in it.
"Holy shit... there's more than one..." Midas mutters, shivering slightly with sweat on his face.
But the one have a real panic attack over it was Dark Jonesy, who was most definitely experiencing PTSD upon seeing the motherships.
Midas puts a hand on his shoulder, trying to reassure him.
"No they won't, I promise. I'm not letting you get captured again. I don't need someone else I care about getting captured as well."
As UFO's begin flying in and firing their lasers at them, they continue to fight as the blue cube's barrier of defense holds off the Last Reality's attacks. A barrier of purple cubes surround the area, making sure the trio had nowhere to run.
"DESTROY THEM MY CHILDREN. SHOW NO MERCY AND DON'T LET ANY OF THEM ESCAPE!!"
Midas shivers slightly, wiping a speck of blood away from his nose and ignoring any pain he felt. Dark Jonesy grunts in frustration, holding his arm.
As he says that the blue cube's barrier protecting them shatters and disappears into nothing, leaving them defenseless and open to be attacked. An abductor from up above approaches them and begins trying to abduct them, or that's what they think.
"Ah! Midas a little help please!!" Jules yells as she pulled up by her assault rifle.
Midas immediately goes to grab her by the ankles and, just as the abduction stops, pulls her back on to the ground...or into his arms would be a better explanation.
"I gotcha Jules. I've got you. Are you alright?"
"Yeah. T-Thanks Midas."
He puts her back on to her feet, helping her stand.
"Ugh. Those damn aliens stole our weapons though...and my ammo."
Midas hums, noticing he still had his drum gun in his right hand.
"Well they didn't take mine...but unfortunately I seem to be out of shots." He grunts.

All three look ahead to see giant cube monsters the size of buildings, strangely named Caretakers, stumbling towards them. Midas begrudgingly begins to summon his staff to defend all three of them until he notices the blue cube reacting to the danger.
"Wait. Look at the Cube."
As a Caretaker reach towards them the blue cube unleashes a bolt of lightning at the hole in its chest, causing it to screech and dissipate.
"It's fighting back."
Dark Jonesy puts a hand on the Cube, a smile on his face.
Midas chuckles slightly, keeping a tight grip on Jules' hand.
"Then we'll have to put our faith into it. Just long enough until Foundation and Ares find Jonesy and initiate phase 2 of the plan."
The trio huddle together as the blue cube continues to unleash attack after attack against the Caretakers, it's light pulsating brightly in the darkness.
Unfortunately, the faith put into the blue cube doesn't last very long as another abductor hovers above them and a beam fires from it and on to it.
"Guys, run!! Incoming!!"
Jules drags the boys away from the cube just as it cracks and explodes into thousands of pieces.
Dark Jonesy slides on his knees and picks up a piece, that coincidentally was slightly shaped like a cube, and holds it close to his chest as the other pieces fades away and lose its power. The one he was holding on to still had a slight glow to it, mostly due to the snapshot have the cube's energy flowing through his body.
"Now what do we do?" Jules asks Midas, a hint of hopelessness in her eyes.
Midas is optimistic though and summons his staff.
"We hold out until The Scientist and Visitor arrive."
He forces the sceptre in the ground and this time forms some sort of shield bubble to protect himself, Jules and Dark Jonesy.
"Foundation, you need to hurry. I think we might be in trouble..."

Meanwhile...
"ALL IMAGINED ORDER PERSONAL TO ESCAPE CRAFT."
"ALL IMAGINED ORDER PERSONAL TO ESCAPE CRAFT."
Slone smiles to herself, imputing the code to unlock the door in front of her. She had been waiting for this day for a very long time.
"At last, after today, Jones will no longer be an annoying thorn in my side."
The door opens with a ding and she assumes her no nonsense face once more. She looks to Gunnar, one of her bodyguards, and an I.O guard. Then she looks at Jones who was unconscious, strapped tight in his seat with a circular device around his head.
"Gunnar, wake him up."
He nods and presses a button, turning on the machine and waking up the blond who promptly lets out a panicked yell.
"Ahaha!! Jeez! Talk about a wake up call!" He chuckles in fear.
Slone approaches him, smirking cruelly with her hands on her hips.
"Well if you had done what I said all those months ago you wouldn't be stuck in this predicament, hm?"
Jonesy rolls his eyes at her, not interested in her bullshit.
"But no. You just HAD to play the good guy and be the hero, Jones."
"Well none of you were gonna fix the Zero Point, so I stepped up to do it! Reality would've ended if it weren't for me and the Foundation!!" He yells back. "So yeah, I AM the hero here!"
Slone leans forward towards him as the ground rumbles.
"Well, riddle me this Jones. Do you know what happens to heroes?"
Jonesy faces her with an uneasy yet defiant expression.
"They uh... live to fight another day..?"
The I.O leader chuckles slightly, shaking her head.
"Maybe in some cases, yes. But not this time Jones. This is where your story ends."
She turns to Gunnar.
"Do it."
"No no! Don't do it! Don't-!"
Ignoring Jones' protests, Gunnar pulls down a switch and activates the machine. The blond flinches with a groan as his head pounds, his vision going blurry and a loss of control over his body.
It looked like his memories were flashing before him, getting fuzzy as the brainwaves surge through his mind.
"Ah Jones. I'd say this isn't personal. But it is." Slone smirks, kneeling near the chair. "And I plan to enjoy every moment."
His breathing hitches as he lies back in the chair with a dazed lifeless expression, soft groans leaving him, a faint ringing in his ears as he slowly loses consciousness yet again.
The ground rumbling above them grows, causing Doctor Slone to become a little agitated.
"Would one of you see what the hell that is?!" She demands, slamming her fist on the chair.
The I.O guard goes to open the door, but it was suddenly slowly opening via a pair of hands forcing it open. The guard steps back slightly as the Foundation and Ares barge through the door!
The Foundation clenches his fist and punches him so hard that he disappears in a burst of blue cubes, while Ares takes ahold of Gunnar's head and slams it into the control panel, knocking him out and disabling the machine. Thus releasing Jones as well.
"Ugh, oh man. Anymore of those brainwaves and I could've passed out or something." Jones stutters, pulling the ring shaped device off his head as Ares quickly pulls him out of the chair and behind The Foundation.
"This is... impossible." Slone remarks. "I watched you die."
The Foundation briefly presses a button on the side of his helmet and removes the visor, revealing his face and telling Slone four simple words.
"I got over it."
She gasps and glares at him, pulling out her pistol.
"YOU!!"
As she fires and The Foundation blocks her bullets Jones finally acknowledges Ares being here and shakes his head while rubbing his eyes.
"What the? Why the hell are YOU here of all people?!" He questions.
"Nice to see you again too Jonesy." Ares sighs, expecting this reaction from him.

Viridescent Core
Some mortals see dungeons as a plague to destroy. Some mortals see dungeons as a resource to manage and harvest. Some mortals see dungeons as a place to train and advance. However, all of them agree on something. Dungeons are unnatural and deadly. Places where death stalks every corner and monsters thrive. What mortals forget, in their hubris of tools and civilizations, is that Mother Nature is often the deadliest of all. Feel free to write any comment, suggestion, or criticism. Free Your Mind
A journey through the mind can be a mixture of the good, the bad, the pure, and the evil. Free Your Mind is a collection of poems and short stories that I've written over the years. As of now, this book is still in progress, but I've planned to release at least 25 to 30 chapters minimum for Free Your Mind. Hopefully you enjoy reading through the works already published for this book, and I hope you'll stick around for what's to come in the future. If you have any comments, ideas, critiques, etc. please let me know! I'm always open to what people have to say about my work. Free Your Mind is a way for me to dabble into releasing my writings for the public to read. And hopefully, if all goes decent with this book, I'll continue to upload different works alongside this. Note: Currently the cover work for Free Your Mind isn't mine. I plan to upload an original design once I've completed the chapters for this book.
