《More Than What He Seems - A Fortnite Story No.1》Chapter 23 - Chaos Agent's Madness

Sophie and Meowscles look at Midas with sorrowful expressions.
"Boss... I'm so sorry that happened to you." The cat sympathies with him.
Midas strokes Meowscles' head, sighing.
"It's not your fault my friend, never was. I probably deserved it anyway, pushing him over the edge like that." He lets out a broken chuckle.
Sophie's heart breaks. Hearing Midas say that hurt her feelings badly. So she's offers him the only comfort she can give:
A hug.
"Oh jeez, I didn't upset you did I?" He asks, placing a hand on her shoulder.
"You didn't deserve to be treated like that. That's not how a child should be treated." She tells him, Meowscles joining in with the hug and nodding in agreement.
"But mew have nothing to worry about now. He's probably long gone anyway." He reminds his boss.
"Yeah, it's only Chaos Agent and Shadow we have to worry about." Sophie laughs, wiping her eyes. The reminder of the Chaos Agent's threat gives Midas the urge to check his watch.
It's currently 4:00 in the afternoon.
"Speaking of which, Sophie, I believe it's time we went back. It's getting dark out and I don't want us wandering around aimlessly in the evening sky." Midas sighs, standing up and stretching his legs.
"Aw man, I wish we didn't have to leave so soon." She frowns, giving the two cats a hug.
"Mew two are free to visit whenever you wish." Meowscles reassures her, Kit purring near her ear.
"I suppose it's only fair in return that you two can find us, for now, at the Fortilla just outside Slurpy Swamp." Midas adds, putting his jacket back on. The two begin to head for the door, before Meowscles stops them.
"Wait a second Midas."

"Yes?"
"Ever since the Agency got destroyed, I haven't been able get my earpiece working. So that's why I haven't been able to contact you or the others. But if you ever need that extra backup, just send us a message. I'll be there." Meowscles smiles, passing Midas a folded piece of paper.
"Thank you my friend."
Midas and Sophie say their goodbyes and head out of Catty Corner.

Back at the Authority...
"He's WHAT?!" Chaos Agent's voice growls.
"Turned to gold, yes sir!" A henchmen repeats himself, only for his boss to reply by throwing a chair at him, barely dodging it.
"Sir please, this furniture costs lots of money!"
"Does it look like I give a damn about the bloody furniture?!" He yells, ink droplets dripping from his mask. Not wanting to get himself killed, the henchman dashes down the stairs.
"And he called himself a qualified candidate for the job as an agent." He grumbles, turning to a golden chair chucked to the corner of his office. "This is your fault."
He picks up the chair, despite it being solid gold and throws it into the wall, making a huge hole.
"This war between us has gone on long enough. And I WILL end it...with your death Midas!!" Black, gooey tentacles burst from behind him and his suit, grabbing the chair repeatedly and throwing it.
"Uh, sir?"
"WHAT IS IT?!"
"Uh, Agent TnTina is here to see you."
"...send her up."
Chaos Agent returns to his desk, sitting in his chair as TnTina arrives.
"Ah, Agent TnTina, good to hear from you. Care to sit down?" He greets her, his head twitching. Seeing the destruction, she passes.
"I assume you came here to tell me about the assult. I already know what happened to Brutus so tell me something I don't know." He sighs, putting his feet up on the desk.

"Well a number of our henchmen were badly injured, but they seem to be pulling through. The assult against Midas and the Fortilla went all according to plan... well, except the part you already know." TnTina explains, giving a review of the attack.
"Hmm, and?"
"Huh?"
"The child? What about her?"
Sweat drips down her forehead.
"Well... Midas sorta knocked me out cold...I don't know what happened to her but I'm sure she's still alive and under Midas' protection... sir."
"Hmm, he cares about that girl, doesn't he?" Chaos Agent sits up, putting his hands together.
"I guess he does. A henchmen of ours spying on them earlier today found them out and about together."
"Hm, yes yes. This child seems to be helping him. Lifting his spirits, keeping him happy...
Which I can use to my advantage."
Chaos Agent's laugh can be heard throughout the building as his mind forms a cruel, evil plan. At that moment, a henchman wearing a hard helmet comes up.
"Sir! I have good news."
"Let me hear it."
"That device of Midas' you wanted to use, well it's all fixed and back in order ready for use." He says, passing a piece of paper will ticks and crosses on it.
"Excellent."
"You do know what happened the last time that thing got activated, right?" TnTina points out, glancing through one of the open holes in the wall.
"I'm aware, but my purpose of using it will be different from that buffoon." The Shadow leader responds. "Now, I have a mission for you."
"Just say the word boss." TnTina smirks, folding her arms.
"It's spoken. I am 100% certain that man will be planning his assult against us right this moment. I want you to remain here, while me, Sorana and a group of my henchmen head to the Fortilla...
And there, I'll deal with the girl myself..." He grins deviously behind his mask.
"But how can you know when they'll leave?" TnTina asks.
"I'll show you."
Chaos Agent presses a button on his desk, making the holographic map appear once again. This time, he presses a smaller button, and a bunch of different red dots appear. Most of them at the Authority, however there is one stray dot in the Fortilla.
"These dots represent each and every person in Shadow's forces, henchmen and agents alike. As you can see, the one at the Fortilla is obviously Jules, our traitorous engineer who fell pray to Midas' lies."
TnTina's head perks up.
"I think I know where you're going with this."
"Now you see why I didn't remove Jules' name from the database." He chuckles. "Putting it simply, she's our signal for when to strike. I'm certain Jules will be joining her brother in revolting against me, so as soon as she's gone, only a few henchmen and the girl will be left in there."
TnTina nods, understanding the plan.
"Since Sorana will be joining me on this mission, it'll be you and Rue running the place before we return." He adds.
"Understood sir. I'll go tell Rue and the henchmen." She gives Chaos a salute and runs off out his office.
"Without her, he will be hopeless. Whether it drives him to THAT...It doesn't matter to me. I will kill him and end this war...no matter who gets hurt along the way..."

I have so much planned for this that it should be fun and entertaining for readers who enjoy the LitRPG genre as much as I do. Please join me as I recount the tale of a man who becomes a legend — both in-game and out of it. I plan to attempt a weekly update schedule. Upload Sunday evening(for me). Warning! This story will involve some amount of cussing to help add some realism and some insinuated sex that will fade to black the moment the fun begins. I am hoping to mostly keep this Rated PG-13 with maybe a few Chapters going rated-R due to language.

Ars Magica
Our vision comes back into focus. Our eyes, while being able to perceive the immediate surroundings, still leave us with our minds uncomprehending towards what is actually occurring. Sure, there are definitive things that we can focus on, like the fact that we're either out upon the open sea or the open ocean, there not being much of a difference with no land in sight, as well as the fact that we appear to be upon a haphazardly constructed metal boat, whose seams are barely able to keep a hold of themselves in the crashing waves. However, that does not let us understand what exactly is causing the waves in the first place. If we were to rewind time, we'd find ourselves upon a calm sea under a peaceful sky with the only difference, being a small whirlpool that would be the precursor towards this uproar around the boat. Lightning flashes in the sky, with no clouds being near, and anyone actually manning the boat has either died towards the cause of the smashing tides in the first place, or are fighting amongst the flashes of lightning, all while trying not to become devoured, demolished, and utterly decimated by the beast roiling in the whirling waves. To better understand exactly what is happening here, there is one singular event that needs to be understood, that needs to be explained, and that is the arrival of a creature named Dave. Stepping back from current events and going towards this creature's first appearance in the world, we begin to hear the sound of water slowly dripping across rocky ground. The cavern is utterly silent except for this one constant, its cause feeding channels downwards, sloping towards cracks in the rubble along the floor from broken stalagmites and stalactites. And there, lying on top of something which had fallen over recently, judging from its cracks, is a person, the creature named Dave. His form is fast asleep, either from the impact or from an intoxication, judging from the smell upon its breath. A bright light suffuses into it for a second, giving life towards the pale skin, before it slowly dies down back to the comfortable black of the cave that it's within. Before this moment in time, Dave did not exist in the physical world. At least, not in the reality that he finds himself born into. We do not know whether or not his existence is simply a cosmic joke, or something that is being played out on purpose. All that we do know, is that one moment, the body was not in the cave, and simply formed in the next. The actual earliest time that we know Dave exists, is the interpolation of the memories of J-209, which we'll begin looking into shortly to gain context towards the coming narrative that is being written and hastily trying to keep itself written. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Warning: This story has several things which might turn its readers away. The first is that this story has shifting points of perspective. Don't worry about that previous sentence too much though, as the main character will always have a first person perspective associated with them. However, any other character from which we're viewing the story from will either be in third-person, as we are not necessarily in their shoes at the moment, or in first person, given that the narrator is an actual physical presence within the story. For the most part, chapters will be self-contained with their perspectives, so there will not be an abundance of switching perspectives within the same chapter. The most that an average reader would have to worry about is the fact that perspectives can switch between chapters. The second thing is that the main character is a bit on the 'special' side of things. He's not exactly mentally there most of the time, so there will be some times that his personality or his thoughts do not actively align with his actions. The third, and final thing of importance, is the fact that past the first couple of chapters, nothing has been planned in advance. There are arcs and plots that I want to do, want to implement, or have already been set into motion from our main character's introduction to the world, but the method that I use for my story writing and generating leads towards a bit more random chance being enabled. Basically...there's a lot of dice rolling behind the scenes. To not complicate the story further than its regular LitRPG elements, the rolls will not be publicly available. However, there will be knowledge within the author's notes on whether or not there were positive or negative critical rolls that had occurred within the chapter. You have been warned. Updates: Mondays & Fridays (Schedule permitting) Typical Chapter Length: (2,000-3,000)

Monstrous Path
This story is both dark and lighthearted, it will have a lot of deaths and gore scenes but not just for the sake of being edgy or something like that. Every being comes from someone’s life — a womb, an egg, the world, a God, and from itself. Then what about me? I came from a container, so what does that make me? Am I still a being? “I do not know — I want to understand — why?” This was my driving force to live when I opened my eyes, I had no need for food, I only needed to satiate my curiosity. But as I learned early on, life was not as simple as it seemed. Note: The Characters in this world would always have a reason for living, and the world moves not just because of the MC. This would also have a lot of tearjerking scenes (or so I would hope) Culture, Race, Government, and Language can and will be different and though some Races like Elves and Dwarves are present, please do not think that they are the same as every other.
