Some curses can cause you to hear odd things. Voices can be a good thing or they can be a bad thing.

Today seems my mind is playing tricks on me and it can be slowly unraveling into insanity. Why and how? let's read to find out.

We walk through the hallway and when we exit there is the blue, green, and white shell coach. It really does need a paint job but in different colors like Austin exclaimed.

Perhaps gold or silver like treasure. When I think silver, the merman floats in my thoughts which startles me a bit.

Why should or would I think about him?

Because you love him and attracted to him.

No, I am not interested in him.

He is just a new asset and nothing more.

Or is he? You did kiss him.

That kiss means nothing!

Looked like you enjoyed it if it meant nothing.

Who are you even to say that?

I am part of your brain that thinks logically.

More like illogically. What happened was the merman's actions. He is the one who kissed me.

If you say so but you didn't pull away.

Perhaps I reminded him of someone from his home.

'Home.' Such a word means a lot of things. The merman home is where a lot more mermaids and mermen are swimming and being free while this merman is in a tank.

A rectangle tank being examined by scientists and can be experimented on more in the biology aspect.

Home.

The simple word replays many memories of my family in my mind. Can I even call the house a home anymore with only me in it? It is now just a house that gives me a place to sleep, eat and be safe.

"Home is wherever you are with whom you love." my mother once told me when a hurricane passed by the coast and was shaking the house. I was three and scared that we would lose our home.

"Alright, so you know the jists. We appear and you wave with a smile greeting the crowd. Soon clear your throat from 'seawater' from the tank and make the announcement asking for the girl. etcetera." Austin trails on about the plan.

I know about from all the birthday meetings and greetings I make with the children of the world.

I see the basket was taken by Austin and he holds it in his hands. The necklace still in there gleaming in the light. Its bright gleams hold strong hypnotic magic that I can't tear my gaze away.

I want that necklace gone as soon as possible. Keeping it will cause me to go mad; with voices in my head.

Max is pushing the coach at the side. Under it has wheels making it easy to roll me down and the children have a better chance of getting in the coach with me like Cinderella and go for a ride if they want.

No ride today, just give the child the necklace and be done with it.

The doors open and millions of cameras flash for photos. Luckily, I have a smile already on my face. I wave my right hand at the audience and pose with different facial expressions.

Max stays at the left side of the coach keeping an eye out for threats. It is the way the bodyguard and handler duty in him.

Austin comes over with the necklace on a teal blue cushion. The basket is being held by one of the other bodyguards near the door.

"Hello ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls. Welcome to Aquarius Aquarium! Here is our amazing and one-of-a-kind Sarah Wavers." I stretch out my smile showing my pearl white teeth.

"Sarah here has a gift for our special birthday girl whose name is also Sarah. Come out birthday girl." a little girl who has brown short hair, light brown eyes, and is wearing a cute pink and blue dress walks slowly forward.

Don't give me to that wench!

I smile tenderly at her ignoring the bitter voice in my mind and stretch my hand over the shell coach beckoning her to come forward. the same male voice starts singing again.

There is nothing that can console me,

But my jolly sailor bold.

She walks over and grabs my hand, her hand is smaller in my grasp.

Come all you pretty fair maids.

I turn her around in a twirl and then Max lifts her to sit in my lap, in the coach. The girls' parents come forward to take photos and I smile at them.

"Mermaid Sarah, do you have anything to say?" I take the water bottle from Austin's hands, drink some and hand it back.

Usually, I would only drink for performance but suddenly it feels like my throat is being dried out faster than the Arabian desert. I place a hand to my throat and clear it out for my voice to carry through the whole room.

Don't you Dare!

I wait for a second as my neck tightens like a hand is pressing on it. It tightens more as I open my mouth. A new song starts to be sung with the same male voice in my head.

Cruel and cold like winds on the sea.

"Ahem. Hello, Sarah. I have arrived here today when my trusted pirate friend Austin told me that today is your birthday. I wanted to wish you a personal happy birthday." Sarah in my arms smiles and turns to wrap her small arms around my neck.

The choking increases with the girl's arms around my neck. I inhale as much air as I can.

Drowns all dreams so mercilessly.

And leave their souls to me.

What I love most about being a fake mermaid is the hugs and affection I receive from the kids. They are just so adorable and each one reminds me of when I hang out with my little sister.

Hopefully, she is having a splashing good time wherever she is up in heaven.

Today though, I can't really enjoy it like others as I am being suffocated by some magic it seems. The girl lets go of my neck but the grip on my throat doesn't let up, only tightens some more.

"And... I present you *sucks in some air* with a gift you can take home for free. Austin, if you please." I gesture toward the necklace.

Austin walks over bowing down stretching his arm where the pillow is out towards us.

You really want to get suffocated well today.

Hush!

I scream in my head at the deep male voice. I grab the delicate necklace with shaking hands and raise it above the birthday girl.

My mother did the same thing and I am holding the tradition as all Wavers do. I close my eyes and use my sixth sense of what to bless the necklace and Sarah with.

My neck is pulsing wanting to breathe some more.

Stop choking me!

Don't give the girl the necklace and I will stop!

I have to or else it will look bad for me.

Don't give the necklace!

Pushing the male voice that is now growling in my head, I resume blessing the necklace. Its gold shines and glows under the light.

Play the song you sang long ago.

"Sarah... with this necklace I give to you." I softly cough to clear my throat as the grip tightens some more.

"WILL it protect you for all your life? Will it be at your side to remind you that water and the sea are calming yet untamable and shall bless this with you forever."

You are damn right about that. I will make sure the girl chokes on it.

'Don't!' I plead in my head.

"Poseidon, today bless this child of the sea for eternity." I finish the wish struggling to keep my voice steady. I lower my arms and place the necklace down around the girl's head and have it hang around her neck.

You shall pay for that you little...

The choking stops like there wasn't a hand on my throat. I slowly exhale, my mind shaking for the little oxygen it is trying to regain. I smile weakly at the crowd. I really dodged a bullet there.

"Thank you, Sarah." the girl hugs me one last time before her parents ask for another photo.

Max grabs her from inside the coach and places her back down on the ground. The girl walks over to her parents and shows them the necklace.

And wherever the storm may blow.

Wild and strong you can't be contained.

I sigh but it halts in my throat when the earth starts to shake. It trembles lightly for a moment but stops.

Never bound nor ever chained.

The wounds you caused will never mend.

"Uh, that was weird but nothing to worry about. That is very sweet Sarah and Happy birthday Sarah may the tides bring you good luck in the future. Thank you all for coming and let us say bye to our mermaid Sarah Wavers as she returns to the ocean." I wave bye to the crowd.

Max with Austin wheels me back the way we came in.

"Wonderful chant Sarah." Austin and Max say in unison.

"Hahaha, thanks. Every blessing is worth a pound of salt from the sea," I tell them remembering the quote my grandmother and grandfather used to tell me every time I went over to visit.

And you will never end.

Who is speaking in my mind? Was it the necklace? Where did that tremor come from?

I need answers. Now!

Cruel and cold like the sea,

Will you ever ...return....to ....me?

*Hello readers and followers, sorry for the long chapter but it is getting juicier by the minute.

Who is the person or the voice that is speaking to Sarah? Is it the necklace? Could it be all in her head?

*Also have you figured who is singing the songs?
