《Save The Netherworld, Iruma-Kun!! || A WTDSIK Fanfiction》Chapter 20: Numb

Iruma holds onto Ameri as they fly across the sky, his hands clenching into hers. He felt like a faliure, not being able to save his father, not being able to do anything. He felt numb. On his face was the mask Balam had given him, the mask that Balam had shoved into his hands before he shoved Iruma into the ceiling.
Somethings shoved into Iruma's hands, and he realizes that it's Balam's mask. The demon smiles at Iruma a bit, patting his head.
"Hold this for me, okay? I love you." Iruma doesnt even get a chance to process before he's grabbed and shoved up into the ceiling, a vine grabbing him around the waist and yanking him up.
"No, wait- dad!" He blinked back hot tears as he started to cry, Amerie landing in a small clearing. They were far, far away from Kalegos house, it just made him feel even worse.
"Iruma..." Ameri whispers, holding out her hands, and Iruma grabs her in a hug, collpasing with her as he sobbed. "Hey, don't cry." She says, wiping his tears away, but more just kept coming. He had lost his cat, his home, his family in one single swoop.
"BUNJI MOVE!" The draconcat has no time to dodge as two arrows are suddenly lodged in his throat, and the cat stumbles back, gold blood pouring from the wounds as it collapses next to Iruma. "Bunji! Oh god- oh my god-" Iruma doesnt even know what he's saying as his hands shake, touching his pet- no, his friend.
"My friend... my boy... my companion." Alikred says, distraught evident in his voice, and Iruma feels himself choke up.
"See, this wouldnt have happened if you would have just cleanly come with me, Balam." Robin says in a singsong voice, and Iruma doesnt know what to do. He could use a spell- but he didn't know many of them, and the ones he did know wernt for fighting. Bunji meows and Iruma wipes his tears away, petting his friend as the light drains from Bunji's eyes and the cat is no more.

"But- I didnt- I didn't get- I-"
"I wasn't able to save my dad either, Iruma. We have to be strong. Asmodeus lost his mom as well. Clara-"
"If they go back to the old ways, my family will loose our land and we'll be homeless..." Clara sits down beside them. "They'll destroy our forest for supplies."
"We've all lost something, Iruma. Even if we're kids, we have to do something. Demons never give up." Iruma looks up at her. "Ever. You think the Demon King gave up when he was attacked by a whole demon army??" Alikred laughs, altough he still sounds a little sad, startling Iruma a little.
"That's the one she uses? Ofcourse I didn't! I forged through and destroyed the entire army by myself!"
"N-no?" Ameri grins.
"That's right! He didn't! Do you think he gave up when he was fighting the old demon king?!"
"No!"
"That's right!!" Ameri smiles. "That's why we cant give up either!"
"When did I ever fight the old demon king...? There was an old demon king???"
"We have to stay together and find someway to get everything we want back. We'll stop Thirteen Crowns leader Baal and save your dad, and mines."
"We can leave my mom behind-" Ameri glares at Asmodeus, who huffs. "And my mom I guess."
"And my woods!!" Clara squeals, and Iruma nods, holding onto Ameri's hands with a small blush. Her hands were warm, and it heated up his own hands. "We'll save everything!!"
"We'll need to hurry. If Baal declares himself demon king before we're able to get there, everyone will get hurt." Asmodeus says, and Iruma slams his fist in his hand. He was determined.
"Let's get going then!"

Balam's head hurt. He staggered to his feet after he woke up, putting a hand to his face. His mask was gone, where did it-
Balam takes off his mask, shoving it into Iruma's hands. He most likely wasn't going to survive this, and hopefully, his mask could be something Iruma remembered him with. He took a deep breath, before smiling at his boy.
"Hold this for me, okay? I love you." He says, before grabbing the boy and shoving him up into the ceiling, a vine grabbing him and pulling him out of danger. Now it was time to kick Robin's ass. He wouldn't hold back.
- Right. He gave it to his son. Balam felt tears pool in his eyes as he thinks of Iruma. Iruma. His son. His only son- his child.
"Balam! Balam, can you hear me?" He perked up, rubbing away his eyes and heading over to the cell door, stopping short. A chain was wrapped around his ankle, stopping him from moving. He tried to use his vines, and nothing comes.
"Kalego??"
"Henri, actually. Kalegos still out. Is Opera there with you? Can you see Sullivan?" Balam looks around. He saw Levi, who smiles at him, but the smile didn't reach her eyes, and Belial, but no Sullivan.
"Do you two know where Sullivan is?"
"Baal took him upstairs when he threw you three down here. He also took Opera." Balam pulls against the chain more as Levi speaks, before she chuckles miserably. "These chains won't break. Baal enchanted them with something. I can't even use magic."
"There has to be something! Henri, get Kalego up, we have to get out of here."
"We may not be able to." Henri says. "This chains legit... He even took my phone and everything." Balam digs through his pockets, growling as he realized his stuff was gone as well. "I've been trying to get out of this chain for a while but-"
Balam no longer listens, grabbing onto the chain and tugging. He was strong, he knew how to rip things out of things if he tried.
"Ah, what are you-" Balam steps back, digging into the ground. He could almost reach the bars, if only he could just- He yankes again, but nothing happens and he just falls flat on his face. "I told you, theres no way to get out of here."
"They tried to kill me and my friends and my son. I have to get out of here."
"Balam." He stopped struggling, looking over at the other cell. "Stop struggling, you'll use up all your strength."
"But-"
"Wait until they bring us up above to do that. Knowing Baal, he'd wait to gloat."
"Before killing us I presume?" Henri calls out, and Levi nods.
"It's also our only chance to win. We have to be careful. If not, then we'll all die."

BODY&SHADOW
AN ILLUSTRATED NOVEL • UPDATES TUESDAY AND FRIDAY In a time before living memory, the King Dragon of the Void watched the world and realized there was a crack. He realized that humanity was destroying the rock upon which they lived; they leaked life’s code into the churning chaos. At first the change was imperceptible: nanites overtook microorganisms, bacteria, viruses, amoebas. Insects became increasingly inorganic; birds and lizards followed soon after. Even humans were infected by their own advances, cell by cell, till there was not a person left on earth who wasn’t at least part synthetic, the product of a prior generation’s carelessness. The world’s population was ravaged by mechanical viruses with no vaccines; they were mercilessly overtaken by bacteria that knew no death. Soon, most of the planet was empty and only a handful remained who remembered the hedonist realm they came from; only a few were left who remembered what the world looked like when their buildings touched the sky. The King Dragon of the Void watched the rock turn. He watched humans cower as the Old World fell down around them; watched their great monuments crumble into dusty ruins; watched their codes become precious, ancient gem memories forged under the crushing pressure of so many fallen stones. The world has spun many times around the sun since chaos swallowed man whole. It is a simpler time than the one that died out, but the people now are not immune to the folly of the people before. There is old code everywhere: in the water, in the air, in the trees. The heart of man has been replaced by power cores, many of which are hard-coded with preternatural abilities—when they die, an esoteric mountain sect collects their cores and stores them in their hollow mountain home to preserve the sanctity and dignity of human death. They’ve learned to harness artifacts of the old world, gemstones full of codes their nanite infused bodies can parse as spells imbuing their users with great power; they inlay them into their bodies, into their skins, connected to their cores by copper conduit and gold tracers; they dress themselves in tattoos to advertise their prowess; they battle for relics in arenas, fight for them in the open world wherever they are found. The King Dragon of the Void watches the rock turn and wonders: when will this hunger finally make the rock stop spinning? WELCOME TO FANXING CITY … Twenty-five years ago, Fanxing City and the surrounding lands were commanded by the mad King Zao Beiguan. For many years, the King hoarded wealth, artifacts, food; he demanded tribute from a people already taxed to the edges of their existence and expected they be happy with their circumstances. Noncompliance was often punished harshly, bodies displayed proudly on Fanxing’s streets as a warning, from the city gates to the Zao palace’s golden doors. The youths of several prominent clans came together to overthrow the tyrant and made names for themselves as legendary heroes across the land: Tian, Ren, Feng, Gui, Ma, and Zhenxi. Even wanderers from the Luanshi sect descended from Yunji mountain to aid the rebellion. When the dust settled after three years, Tian Yunyong ascended the throne of Fanxing and swore to honour his slain father’s memory, and has maintained Fanxing’s peace with generosity and mercy where fear and cruelty once reigned.
