《Since You Been Gone》Chapter 29

I curl my hair and let it fall in wavy strings around my face. I put on some skinny jeans, a flowy, turquoise blouse, and some turquoise sandals. I walk out to the front room of my house and wait for Tobias. He was supposed to come pick me up after he made sure Zeke and Uriah could watch him without any major problems.

When his black car finally pulls up, I walk outside, close the door shut behind me and lock it. He rolls down the window and has music blaring. "Get in!" he yells over the sound. I shake my head.

"Not until you cut that down!" I yell back. He gives me a fake, disappointed sigh but still reaches over and turns off the rap music. I slide in the passenger seat and smile at him. "Where are we going?" I ask.

"I have my places. . ." he replies. I just raise my eyebrows at him and gives me a real sigh. "We're going to a dance club," he admits.

"What part of no drinking did you not understand?" I yell out as it's my first instinct. He shrugs and shifts his car out of park and begins to drive down the road.

"It's a dance club. Just because you go and dance doesn't mean you're going to get drunk or an STD is going to slither its way into your body," he replies. I sigh and look out the window, watching all the houses we pass.

"Just for the record, I'm still sitting here because I'm locked inside a moving vehicle, not because I'm excited about going to some dark, unsanitary club," I say after a few more minutes of driving. He laughs and shakes his head. "What?" I ask.

"That is so you," he says. I look back at him and raise my eyebrows.

"What is so me?" I ask. He stops at a red light and looks over at me.

"You seriously have to ask that?" Tobias asks. I nod slowly. "I mean that it is so like you to find all the faults in something no matter how excited you are," he explains. I shake my head.

"I'm not excited," I tell him. He shakes his head.

"I'm sure you aren't," he says before the light turns green and he moves further down the road.

When we walk into the club the strong scent of alcohol is thrown into our faces. Light beams consisting of red, blue, green, and yellow flash all around the room, illuminating the faces of all the people in the club. Tobias directs over to a high table with two chairs. I sit down and watch all the intoxicated people dancing.

"They all look like idiots!" I yell over the music. Tobias laughs and nods.

"And that is one good thing about us not drinking," he replies. We both laugh and watch as some girl approaches some guy and yells something uncomprehendable. He throws his head back and laughs. The girl jumps up on his back and they begin spinning around in circles.

"I'm pretty sure that is the affects of more than just drinking," I comment. He chuckles and nods.

"I'm going to go get us something to drink. Do you want coke?" he asks. I nod and he walks off, leaving me alone to watch all the college-age people dancing with clear glasses of brown liquid in their hands. A few of them stagger around the dance floor, nearly knocking over people who just laugh it off or give them hugs.

I begin to sway when Honey, I'm Good, which happens to be one of my favorite songs, if not my favorite. "I thought you said you weren't going to enjoy this place," Tobias says as he walks up to the table to see my swaying. I laugh.

"Just because I'm enjoying the music does not mean I am having fun," I reply. He chuckles and shakes his head. He sets down the soda cans on the table and extends his hand out to me.

"Then, I have to make you enjoy it," he says, I raise my eyebrows.

"Why? Are you asking me to dance?" I question with mock shock. He nods.

"I am. Get your butt up off that chair and come dance with me," he says. I laugh and stand up. We walk over to a deserted corner of the dance floor and jump around like most people our age do. Every now and then on of us will throw in a silly dance move from the 80's and hunch over with laughter.

We stay like that for who knows how long, just being silly to the beat of the current song. After Dear Future Husband goes off, a familiar song comes on that I remember perfectly from almost five years ago.

"Tris, will you dance with me?" he asks as the song Crazier by Taylor Swift comes on. I raise my eyebrows.

"I thought we were already dancing," I say. He shakes his head.

"You know what I meant," he says. In a matter of seconds, we're in the positions we were in so many years ago at prom. My hands wrap around his neck and his slide around my waist. We sway around the floor as it clears of all the drunk people hoping for a faster beat.

You lift my feet off the ground

You spin me around

You make me crazier, crazier

Feels like I'm falling and I am lost in your eyes

You make me crazier, crazier, crazier

We begin to make bigger movements as more space opens up on the dance floor, spinning around in circles like you would see at the ball in a princess movie or how the hero would dance with his damsel in distress.

I've watched from a distance as you made life your own

Every sky was your own kind of blue

And I wanted to know how that would feel

And you made it so real

You showed me something that I couldn't see

You opened my eyes

And you made me believe

I stare into Tobias's eyes. They show a passion unlike any I have seen since he returned. The look in his eyes is so rare that it seems foreign and cause me to want to save them for all the special moments in life.

You lift my feet off the ground

You spin me around

You make me crazier, crazier

Feels like I'm falling and I am lost in your eyes

You make me crazier, crazier, crazier

Tobias slows the spinning and moves closer towards me, his arms falling backwards. My body naturally falls back as I agree to his unspoken offer of a dip. When his eyes stare into mine, I freeze. His eyes stare into mine and I feel them move closer. His face is moving closer towards mine. His entire body, in fact.

And that is when he kisses me.
