Chapter 3
Tobias P.O.V.
I knock on Christina and Will's door. Their townhouse is brick and has a small, fenced in front yard. There is a wooden doghouse and toys, for kids and dogs, in the yard. There is a large window on the brick wall with curtains blocking the view. I see a person's silhouette move in front of the window. A minute later, Will opens the door. Shock is immediately painted on his face.
"Four, um hi," he says. I wave before he quickly turns around, leaving me standing at the door. "Christina! You need to come to the door! And leave Lucas in the living room!" He yells. Another figure's silhouette moves across the window. Then, Christina is at the door, looking even more shocked than Will.
"What are you doing here?" She asks, skipping over any type of greeting. A frown lines her face. Will lets her stand in the front and shifts uncomfortably. Christina keeps her eyes on mine, showing no signs of fear.
"Hi, Christina. It's nice to see you, too," I say. She rolls her eyes and sighs. She doesn't say anything to tell me to continue. "I want to meet my son," I say. She does the laugh she uses when she finds something pathetic and shakes her head.
"I'm not letting you in to see Lucas," she says. I beg her with my eyes to just let me see my child. Leaving Tris and Lucas was one of the biggest mistakes I've ever made and I intend on fixing it.
"Christina, I want to meet Lucas. He is my son. I deserve to be with him. Or to at least meet him," I say. She walks out of the house and comes onto the porch. I'm standing right in front of the steps. When she stops, she is inches away from me. If she pushes me then I would fall.

"No, you don't deserve to meet him. You were the one whoever him and his mother to go off and play football. Tris has been busy the second you left her. She is raising a son on her own while also providing for the two of them. Zeke and I try to do everything we can. Zeke has been the father figure in his life. Not. You," she spits. Passion for she is telling me coat her eyes. She and Zeke were supposed to be godparents when I left. I guess they both kept that title.
"I was doing what was best for all of us, Christina. Tris could've handled New York on her own. She is a strong, independent woman," I say. She shakes her head probably in disappointment.
"But she was also pregnant. She lost whatever courage she had when you left. She wasn't able to pay apartment bills, pay for food, doctor bills, and baby items while she was a student. Her parents kicked her out and had nothing to do with her. She didn't know, or really trust, anyone there. But you were what held her together. You kept her from having an emotional breakdown or from giving up. But you left and what little strength she had left was gone," she explains. What she says feels like a knife being stabbed in my chest. Christina is right. I did ruin their lives.
"Maybe your right, maybe I don't deserve to meet Lucas. But, doesn't he deserve to meet me? Shouldn't he get to meet his father?" I ask. Christina still keeps eye contact with me.
"He does deserve to meet his father. It's the same as how he deserves to meet his grandparents who have never had anything to do with him. Or his uncle who is a Christmas or birthday card with five dollars in it each year," Christina says. This sends another aching pain up through me.

"He's never met any of Tris's family?" I ask. Christina shakes her head.
"No. He met Caleb in Kroger once so he's tried to be in Lucas's life. Caleb always sends him a birthday or Christmas card. He's visited them two or three times, I think. But Tris and Caleb aren't supposed to talk a lot according to their parents. They don't want Caleb around her any more," Christina explains. I nod.
"Can I please just meet him?" I ask. She shakes her head and takes a quick glance at her watch. She looks behind her into the doorway. Will has disappeared, leaving a view of the hallway which is lined with picture frames.
"Four, you need to-" Christina starts. She's interrupted, though, when a little boy comes to the front door. He looks like a younger version of me. He is dressed in Velcro tennis shoes and a lime green shirt with dinosaurs.
"Aunt Christina! The movie ended! Can I watch Peter Pan now?" the little boy asks.
"Um, can you see if Will can put it in? I'm kind of busy right now," Christina says. He shakes his head and walks outside. She backs away a little.
"No. We can't find it," he says. She looks away from the little boy to me. When when does that he seems to notice me for the first time. "Who are you?" He asks.
"I'm Four. I'm an old friend," I say. He nods and takes my hand and tries to pull me inside.
"Oh. Do you play football? I think you were on Zeke's t.v. one time," the little boy says.
"Um, I do play football," I say. I shift uncomfortably, trying to get him to let go of his hold on my hand. The little hands hold on, though.
"Oh, well. You should come inside and watch Peter Pan with us," he says, trying to pull me inside again. I look at Christina for approval and she just points to the door.

I get out of my car after pulling into Christina's drive way. I pull up next to an unfamiliar car. As I walk towards the house, I try to peek inside to see if I can find anything that would tell me who's car it is. I don't find anything, though, so I continue to walk up to the house. I open the door and walk inside. I navigate my way to the living room where I hear voices.
My jaw falls to the floor when I see who is sitting with Will, Christina, and my, well our, son. I would recognize the icy blue eyes that appear gray in some lighting. He dark brown hair is cut short, the same way it was two and a half years ago in New York. He and the little boy who is sitting in the floor with a small dog watching the beginning of Peter Pan.
"What the heck is he doing here?" I ask.
