《Safe Haven》Chapter Thirteen

Hey
When are you guys going?
we're leaving right now
do you remember anything
specific you might have there?
Not really
I'm just anxious
calm down, it'll be fine
daisy and i got this
just hang out with jess
Jess and I lay on my bed watching a random movie while we wait for them, but I can't focus. I know Jamie just told me to calm down, but how can I be calm when my friends are going to my ex's house to get the things I couldn't get myself yesterday because he attacked me and got me unconscious?
When the movie is about to end I hear a knock on the door. Jess opens it and Daisy comes in. I sigh in relief.
"Now that Daisy is here, I'm going to hit the shower. I don't know how you didn't say a word about how much I stink." Jess gets out of my room and I laugh.
"Hey! This is all we could find." Daisy places a bag with my things on my desk and comes to the bed.
"How did it go?"
"It was fine. He didn't get in our way."
"That's good... where is Jamie?"
"She's looking for a spot for her car. There weren't any on the street."
"Ok..." I frown when I notice her hand is a little bruised. "Daisy, what happened to your hand?" She doesn't answer. "Daisy..."
"It's not a big deal."
"Tell me." She mumbles something, but I can't understand. "What was that?"
"I may or may not have punched Matt."
"YOU WHAT?!"
"Twice."
"Daisy!"
"Ok, maybe ten times, but who's counting?"
"I told you not to do anything about it!"
"How could I possibly not do anything, Allie? He hit you! Twice! He was fucking abusive! And look at you! Look at what he did! He deserves so much more than a couple of punches!" She yells. "Have you looked at yourself in the mirror since you came back from the hospital?" I shake my head, I'm too scared of what I'll see. "C'mon."

She helps me walk to the bathroom and when I look at the mirror I gasp. I look like shit, but that's not the worst. My neck is really bruised. I get closer and I can make out the outline of a hand.
I start sobbing and Daisy holds me. She takes me back to my bed and hugs me while she waits for me to calm down.
"A punch is nothing close to what he did to you." She whispers. "He deserves to be punched ten times a day for the rest of his life." She pulls back. "You know what? Scratch that. He deserves to be punched ten times and kicked in the balls twice everyday for the rest of his life." I let out a small laugh.
"I don't care about what he deserves. I care about what could happen to you. We both know what he can do."
"Yes, and that's why I think you should press charge. He cannot walk around without any consequences. He deserves to be punished. What if this happens to another girl?"
"I know." I sigh. "I might go to the police station some time this week. I'm still too tired."
"I'll come with you. We have to take every single evidence as we can. You need to grab the papers from the hospital and we have to take pictures of the bruises before they fade so they still look like this. If you still have that dress, I think it might help."
We spend the next hour gathering everything we could possibly think might help with the case.
Jess comes back with Jamie and they bring our dinner so we could all eat together.
"You two are the best people in the world." Daisy grabs her food and sits down to eat.

"Hey." Jamie gives me my food.
"Hey! I wanted to ask you something..."
"Go for it."
"Why did you let Daisy beat Matt up?"
"Daisy did that?!" Jess yells.
"Damn right I did." Daisy laughs.
"I couldn't do anything." Jamie replies.
"Why not? Were you not there?"
"Oh, I was there."
"And you didn't stop her..."
"No."
"Why the fuck not?"
"Because she agrees with me." Daisy answers with her mouth full. "She wanted to do some damage herself, but there was no need for both of us to hurt our hands." She shrugs.
"Jamie!" I shout.
"He's lucky. It could've been worse." My mouth drops and I can't say a word. "Anyways, how are you?"
"I'm annoyed with you two. I told you guys to leave it alone! " I stare at Jamie and Daisy. "But other than that, I'm good. I was very bored while you guys were in class, but Jess has been a great company and distracted me."
"I know how to entertain." Jess settles down on my desk. "Whenever you need to be distracted you know who you're gonna call."
"The Ghostbusters?" Daisy laughs hard at her own joke.
We laugh and talk about everything and nothing. Daisy complains about the teacher that keeps scheduling tests for every week even though we're not even a month into the semester. Jess tells she finally found a new job after being fired last semester, it's at a diner near by and she'll start next week. Jamie says I have to come back to class asap because she thinks she 'might die from calculus' and that it is scientifically proven to be possible.
I love these girls so much.
