"Do you remember Larry?" Elliot asked Noah.
"Yeah, I heard he died during the third wave." Noah replied and I frowned.
"Oh." Noah said in realization and Elliot nodded.
"Uh hello not all of us share your telepathy." I said and Elliot chuckled.
"We should go check Larry's farm out." Noah said and Kieran, Mark and I nodded in realization.
"Then let's go." Kieran said and we jumped into Noah's truck before Noah started the engine and driving further South.
After a forty minute drive we turned left onto a dirt road. There were cows and sheep. I also noticed a well a mile away from the animals. A large white house came into view and I smiled excitedly.
"Let's hope it's empty." I said hopefully.
"Oh my gosh yes, it's giving Nanny McPhee vibes." Mark said and I laughed loudly.
"What the fuck is Nanny McPhee?" Kieran asked in confusion.
"Only the best movie ever to have been made. No cap." Mark said and I agreed.
"Gen Z." Elliot said tiredly before sharing a laugh with Noah and Kieran.
"That was a low blow." I said and Kieran just smiled at me in amusement.
We stopped in front of the house before getting out the truck. Then we held our guns up before spreading out.
"I'll check inside." Elliot said under his breath.
"I'll go check out the barn." Kieran said before walking away from us.
"I'll check out the water in the well and the fences." Noah said and I pouted before nodding slowly.
"I guess I'll keep watch." I said in annoyance.
"Hey bestie." Mark said before standing next to me. "So you and Kieran?" He asked and I frowned.

"Me and Kieran what?" I asked in confusion.
"You guys have to be dating." He said and I shook my head.
"No we were dating but it didn't work out." I said and Mark looked at me confused.
"Is it recent?" He asked and I shook my head.
"About two years ago." I said and he nodded.
"It's so hard to be a single gay male during the apocalypse." He said tiredly. "Like all of a sudden everyone is just straight." He said and I chuckled at him.
"No they're not, you just have to be patient." I said softly and Elliot came out of the house.
"It's clear." He said with a broad smile on his face and I jumped on him before he spun me around in the air.
"Obviously two of us has to stay here." He said and I frowned. Noah and Kieran joined us soon after.
"The water supply is good." Noah said happily and I smiled.
"Just one problem the barn is filled with walkers." Kieran said before running a hand over his face.
"Easy money." Noah said before laughing with Elliot.
"Don't tell me you're gonna kill them." Mark said in horror.
"You can't kill something that's already dead." Elliot said while looking into Mark's eyes. He scoffed before going back to having a conversation with Noah.
"So who's gonna stay?" Elliot asked.
"I can stay." Kieran said blankly.
"Ro?" Elliot asked.
"Ro?" Noah asked while frowning at Elliot.
"As tempting as that sounds. I have to go get my baby at home." I said and Elliot smiled at me.
"Mark?" Elliot asked and he frowned at Elliot.
"Oh my gosh my anxiety." Mark said nervously.

"You'll be fine." Noah said with a chuckle. "Plus this way you get to prove yourself." He added.
"So if we come back and Kie is dead, we'll know- we shouldn't have trusted you." Elliot said and Kieran looked at us in disbelief.
"That's perfect." Kieran said sarcastically and I laughed.
"Come on let's go home we said we'd be back by twelve." I said and Noah nodded before getting behind the steering wheel.
I hugged Kieran before getting in the truck. I waved at him and Mark before slumping into my seat.
"I really hope Mark's not a serial killer." I said tiredly.
"Says the girl who begged us to make him come with us." Noah said and I rolled my eyes at him.
"I didn't know we were gonna split up." I said under my breath.
"Kieran can handle a serial killer." Elliot said and I just shrugged.
"I would hope so." I said before closing my eyes and sighing tiredly. After a long drive we finally stopped in front our house.
"Home sweet-" Elliot stopped mid sentence so I looked to where he was looking. "Who's the old man?" He asked and my eyes widened.
"There was a man standing in front of the door. I took my gun out before climbing out of the car and walking up to him.
"Who are you?" I asked rudely.
"Do you live here?" The man asked carefully.
"Yes and you're trespassing." Elliot said from behind me while he held his gun up at the man.
"I'm here for my grand daughter." The man said before placing his hand on his chest and I frowned deeply.
"Your grand daughter?" Noah asked in confusion. "Who Xelia?" He continued and the man shook his head.
"Then who?" I asked.
"Faith." He said and I completely froze up.

Cinder Roots (Undergoing a Rewrite)
This novel is currently undergoing a major rewrite, as I noticed several plot points that needed to be revamped. I'll leave the chapters I've posted here to anyone curious to see how everything started, but I'll be posting the rewritten story as a new novel in the future. The characters will be the same, but the journey will be more understandable and hopefully, a lot more fun to read. -------- First, everything was fire, it killed, it consumed, and it gave him life. He was just a tree, born in the biggest forest that remained in the world, full of dryads, naiads, elves and treants, but he was alone. He couldn’t see. He couldn’t talk. Curiosity plagued him. He dreamed of wandering the land, but could only wonder what stood outside the reach of his roots. The tree was tired of waiting. He decided to not just dream, but to act. How could he survive against a invading empire, a grand conspiracy that threatened to shake the foundations of the world, and the raw danger that lies within these woods? With pure determination. Warning - There are quite a few POV changes in the first chapters, but that'll change after the introduction is done, as I'll be focusing on the MC perspective only.
